Newcomer / Intro As a newcomer to serious exploration

congrats on finding your first Neutron..

just wait till you find your first binary Neutron...
Blimey! That's extraordinary. Now, I definitely do have something to aim for.

I've managed to find myself quite a few neutron stars in the last day or so - currently on my way to a little cluster of them, if the map is to be trusted - and mostly undiscovered. But no binaries - well, not yet, anyhow.

Congratulations CMDR!

It is a great achievement and be assured, that the feeling of big discoveries never gets old. After more than 46000 scans, i still enjoy the moment of finding an earthlike or other type of cool and undiscovered celestial body.

Keep on flying!

Godspeed CMDR o7

I also found my first (and so far only) earthlike yesterday. Along with a strange, huge, beautiful landable planet covered with curious red stripes.

This game always has something new to offer, even if you feel you've been in a mundane rut for a while, it keeps throwing out something to amaze and delight.

I have a couple of questions for experienced explorers, if that's okay.

Firstly, do I get a benefit from a faction if I deliver my exploration data to their system? Or, as it all goes to Universal Cartographics, is it the same wherever you go?

Secondly, are there any pulsars out there?

You gain rep with the faction that owns the station where you sell but the price you get is always the same. However, if you pledge with Li Yong-Rui's power and get to the top level then you get a 200% bonus when selling exploration data in his systems.

There are a few real-life pulsar systems (those with names starting "PSR") but unless something has been changed recently they are represented the same as normal neutron stars.

ps: there is an exploration sub-forum https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/117-Exploration where most of the experienced explorers hang out.

Congrats! If you get lonely while exploring, consider joining the FleetComm player group. It's for explorers who promise not to shoot each other.

You'll find expedition announcements in the Exploration sub-forum. In particular, the Second Distant Worlds Expedition will take place in about a year, which gives everyone a chance to return to the bubble for the start. I'm already signed up.

Thanks both. I'll have a proper look at the Exploration forum; I'd always felt a bit out of my depth there, not being a seasoned explorer!

A big expedition does sound fun, though. I could certainly go for that.

I'm just so excited. Possibly more excited than I've ever been playing this game. Because, for the first time, I just this moment discovered a neutron star (complete with its own family of planets). And I mean discovered, nobody else has been here before, it's not on any neutron jumping route.

No doubt seasoned adventurers have done this kind of thing many times, but I feel like I've just stepped on a first rung up the ladder of Proper Explorer. I will remember this forever. Or at least until Wednesday.

Right on CMDR [up]

I still get the same feeling when discovering new planets (the ones of worth anyway). That feeling never leaves you. Get yourself out there and put your name to as many planets as you can.

Fly Safe o7

Thanks!
And, well, I've put my name on two black holes tonight, which has cheered me no end! And also a water world, suitable for terraforming, with an ammonia atmosphere, orbiting a neutron star. Which doesn't immediately strike me as suitable for terraforming. But the game will do as it will.

Not to worry. DWE was my first "real" exploration. Previously, I had only left the bubble for less than a week.

It was fun. Some of the waypoints were truly spectacular.
