Ships Asp Scout Asp Scout Appreciation Thread

Low orbit around Riedquat, this AspS decked out with Reverb Cascade Torpedoes and Beam Laser Emissive tag. Uncle Monty
Looks great with that paint job and lighting.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who appreciates this ship. Might be better options out there, but I like the look of it and she runs cool and maneuvers well. I have mine kitted up as a material farmer/small time explorer.

Currently using it for the CG out at the Coalsack

Well, I reckon the Asp Scout is just....great. Love flyin' it- it's superb at doing so and I kinda like it better than the FDL for rotational agility. Its boost is a little short, but it's always on tap and works very well. If only it was a little thinner...but not a real complaint.

Here's what I made of it this afternoon, anyway....

Been taking my heavy combat build out through various CZ's to give it a test out.... So far the only really issue I have is running out of medium MC ammo to quickly... need to go farm so basic mats soon for synth.

In the CZ's themselves the only tough fight I have had is when I get targeted by the whole spec ops wing.... enemy commander ships and caps aren't an issue at all...

Really enjoying flying this ship.

Sanderling - great stuff, good to see the AspS getting some serious cred. It'd be great to have a bit of outside footage - I'd be up for sitting in on MC and doing some shots, if that doesn't cramp your style.

No prob - shoot me a friend request in game and get in touch )

I just kickstarted my alt commander and decided that I will only use ships that my first commander overlooked. I was especially looking for something ultra agile for deep core mining. After playing around mining in a Vulture, which actually was great but too limited cargo and not great visibility, I realized that Asp Scout fits the bill. And I have to say she' s AWESOME!

Sooooo agile and that cockpit is perfect when deep core mining in VR. And with 48T storage (+6 additional T in the refinery) its perfectly balanced for a deep core run.

I got a second Asp Scout yesterday to outfit as a non-engineered, non-guardian booster, non-neutron booster exploration ship. I love the AspX for sure, but the Asp Scout gives me a lot of those vibes I got from the AspX variant in Frontier Elite II. My head cannon is the Lakon based the chassis of the scout on the 3200s AspX, and the current AspX is an AspX mkII, or III or whatever.

I took my Asp Scout, Nikuu II out on a test run to some places in the bubble reccomended by CMDR Buur, it was joy to fly around and you get the same view as you would in an AspX.

I got this nice shot of my hidden Asp while hacking an installation. A police Viper dropped in to scan me, but for whatever reason it stopped at exactly 1.00km. At that distance, I was too cold to scan.

So this thread was started in 2019, and i have a couple of questions i hope Asp Scout pros can answer :)

Has the ship changed since this thread was started and if so how did Fdev buff the Asp Scout, and is it a better deal now than it was before?

Since Frontier II days, the AspX was always my preferred ship, and in ED i think only the engine noise (iirc) prods me in the direct of the Krait Phantom. However since starting ED a couple years back i always loved the idea of the Asp Scout, so this is my chance to try it out i think. In my head the name "Asp Scout" conjures the image of a fast, nimble, stealthy and high jump capable ship, at the expense of toe-to-toe combat. I'm not sure that reality was realised in the Asp Scout we got, but maybe it is closer now than when first released?

My journey has so far been Sidewinder>Adder>Cobra Mk III and i'm looking for a next step and i am hoping i can make a stealthy trader/explorer/escapee out of the current Asp Scout? Advice an builds welcomed for that aim, or even advice to look elsewhere if not really possible.

So i went ahead, even if it felt like a hard choice as i could have got the AspX at the time too! I like the look of it and it does fly nice, if a little slow (which i will try to improve with better/lighter equipment as i upgrade it over time, and with opportunity). Combat is not something I do, so it is set up as a 50t cargo hauler with Exploration as a secondary role. It feels like being worth my while to engineer it, not something i have done before, but the limited internals vs the AspX make it more vital here i think?

I run it windowed in 1600x900 and fps capped at 60 to match my screen refresh rate, and it mostly manages to keep that, even running Odyssey, but will fluctuate into the 40's in a busy concourse scene, and probably best to stay out of the FPS combat on foot part of the game! Space and planet flying keeps a stable 50-60 fps with very little slow down, but yet to get into a busy asteroid field.

Maybe it does look a little better than the AspX? The lines are more sleek due to the lack of rudder fins on the back and the engine jet placement looks a little better? Still for it's size (M) vs (S) the Cobra MkIII has better performance for the kind of build i like to fly (Trader/Explorer/Runner), so i will see what i can boost stats wise with better equipment and engineering.

Could be a great stealth ship perhaps? I read it runs colder than most others and the mat black paint is nicely done on the Asp Scout
