August Dev Diary, your hopes and expectations

Do you have any, and if so what are they? I'm hoping for more detail on what features will and won't be included. I won't be disappointed if that's not the case.
I have to think they can't keep the feature list under wraps much longer. An update of this magnitude is going to need some serious beta testing, which should start happening in the next couple of months if Frontier is serious about releasing in early 2021. So I am expecting "full disclosure" when it comes to exactly what Odyssey will and will not be, with a possible exception when it comes to things like VR support. If Frontier is still figuring out what Odyssey is at this point in development, then that's a pretty terrible sign IMO.

I have hopes but FD will just do this

If they go the Planet Zoo route, the first dev diary will be some curtain raising on an empty stage...

Just as a heads up, if the dev diaries follow Planet Zoo’s recent format, the first one will be pretty light on details...

They started the info build to their Nov 2019 release with:

  • Trailer (April 24th)
  • A pretty generic my day in the office style affair (May16th)
  • A diary with an overview of some key design / gameplay aspects (May 28th)
  • A diary on a gameplay strand, but with only a touch of detail IE creativity in habitat design (June 5th)
  • A vid overview (June 20th)

Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s no big info dropping for Aug. Although FDev are attending digital Gamescom, they might start gearing up there?

That "My Day in the Office" could be made really interesting with Covid 'working from home' .......

"I get up in the morning, don't bother to change, make some toast and jam, have a cup of tea while checking online newspapers.

Think about getting down to design work, take a look at what the forums are saying, decide to go for a run instead.

Come back, shower, conference call with the boss is calling on my computer, so I switch on "artificial busy background" and zoom camera for head and shoulders shot (because I'm not wearing any clothes). Funnily enough, my boss appears to have done the same. The background in his screen shot is bugged and suggests he may be on a beach. Conference call closes after we don't make any decisions, except we will have another call next week.

I make another cup of tea before deciding to take the dog for a walk .... "

I have no hopes nor expectations from the Dev Diaries nor Odyssey anymore.

By the time Frontier actually says anything I'll already be flying in the new Microsoft Flight Simulator, exploring the virtual Earth in fantastic detail, flying through a wide variety of weather and scenery.

Odyssey would need to greatly improve exploration to capture any interest from me, but I expect the expansion to be mostly about ground combat and DLC. So far they haven't shown anything which interests me. If they do at some point then I'll start paying attention, but with the new MFS it might honestly be too late. I've been waiting too long and I'm quite tired of hoping for a better Elite Dangerous.

On the list of things I want developed for Elite Dangerous, space legs isn't even in my top ten.

Oh well, maybe Frontier will surprise me, but I do not expect them to.

Being the first dev diary I'm pretty sure we won't get any information about gameplay / spacelegs. It'll probably be about the new planetary tech they will be introducing.

In the past I was very interested to these kind of "reveal" events.
But I already know that VR won't be part of this expansion so the hype train is parked in the depot with the engine removed for maintenance.

...populating planets with a few geysers...

Hmm, reading that; Here's wondering whether the expected improved blending-with-the-environment to scatter rocks will extend to other plopped-in objects as well, such as said geysers, and life forms, and growths, so that they stick out less like a sore thumb. :7
