Been away for 2 years, now back. Looking for suggestions of new interesting features.

I've just come back from 4 years out so it's been a bigger change. Not sure why i stopped playing, a combination of moving in with the missus, buying a place together, started a new job just before that so didn't seem to have that much free time.

There's quite a lot for me, engineers, guardians, thargoids, quite a few new ships and easy credits with mining. Earning credits when I played a lot a while ago were much more of a grind to get. I've got one more mining run to make in my Asp Ex then I'm buying myself a Krait Mk 2. Will do a few more mining runs with that for a fully A rated one then go after the engineers and guardians. Not sure what i'll do after that, get my combat eye back in as I'm really rusty.

Earning credits is now easier with the new 'intended' mining exploit. Engineering is now much easier and 'predictable' and materials are very easy to find if you have the time to search all the signal sources which are now much more easily found using the new system scanner which comes as standard on every new ship. Exploration is easier now, not having to travel to each planet to discover it. You have to travel to them if you want to map them, a new feature and something you have to do really if you want to make any credits from exploration. The Krait is an 'easy' new ship and you can do just about anything in it. There's even a new noob-exclusive area of space to make it easier for new players. It's easier to get new cosmetics/paints etc with the new ARX - I actually quite like this, I've got a few new 'cheap' paints already that I wouldn't have without ARX.

There's a pattern... everything seems to have become easier. Well, except for CZs, they aren't as easy anymore and engineering is a must now.

Elite:Getting-Less-And-Less-Dangerous.

But I have a PMF so I'll remain loyal to the game even i it miffs me more and more each update!

Finally, someone who ISN'T trying to turn players off the game - seriously can't work out why people hang around a forum of a game they obviously loathe.
Yeah, the grumbling of the terminally disappointed is sad.
There's tons of new stuff, just not much for those who can't seem to manage their expectations.
I had a long break and after a year am only just starting to catch up and I haven't even seen a Thargoid yet. Colonia is well worth checking out and there are loads of new outposts, stations, settlements, megaships and whatnot strewn about. As many have mentioned mining is now good craic. Exploration is good too. Join an expedition - I did DW2 and that was really good, very sociable and utilised a lot of the Squadron and wing features.
Since all the Beyond updates I feel like the game has been pulled into much more of an integrated whole than when I left it last time.
There are a lot of things that haven't been attended to and still feel like placeholder but there's loads to do - more than you probably have time for.
I do get the impression that I missed a bit of a "golden era" between 3302-3304 when a lot of storylines were being discovered/played out and there was a lot of hope that they would lead somewhere. But I'm trying to find my own way into them and for one with fresh eyes there is now a lot more depth to the gameworld with rumours, myths and story arcs that you know you'll unlikely ever be involved in but which really add to the feel of the game.
Enjoy and welcome back!

Wow, back then 15,000 was a big bounty. Have fun.

If you have serious ED questions use Inara or the subforums, dangerous discussion is just the moan zone now.

Some great info in this thread, thanks to all that have contributed constructively. I have also been away for a while, so having a nice summary of things to check out is much appreciated. Thanks to OP as well for asking the questions in the first place :)

I am gonna check out the new ships,
and might also try my luck at mining some void crystals to refill the credit balance after kitting them out.

Fly safe o7

As the title states, it's been on a rather long hiatus for a number of reasons but in that time i have literally not kept up with the games development, news, youtube vids, etc. I jumped back on yesterday for first to see what's changed in the interface, took my unshielded Cutter out for a spin (that was scary not knowing my control bindings got whacked!).

Anyways, should I continue where i left off which was working on fed rank currently post captain so 1 rank away from Corvette, methodically banging out the engineers 1 by 1, or something else?

In looking at the interface changes, the biggest thing that looked different to me was Squadrons. Any new gameplay there or did this make it easier to form wings if you don't know anybody in game? Or a slightly different question, what is the single greatest improvement that hit the game over the 2 years? I know that last question is very subjective.

Thanks.
The introduction if the Krait Mark 2 and the Krait Phantom. Wonderful ships.

Hardly there is any "good" change compared to state of game of 2 years ago, if anything, I would say the change for DSS and overall exploration mechanics changes.. Nothing else aint much changed apart of it.
Apart from the introduction of the Kraits, changes to mining, exploration, introduction of the noob zone, new tutorials, and a few other things, no, nothing's changed!

Asteroid mining is genuinely better and improved, a good couple of days gameplay there.

Exploration tools are better, but somehow Frontier forgot (or skirted around) the content so you can use the Codex to find mostly uninteresting stuff. The exception to this are the Thargoid sites and Guardian ruins which again add a couple of days of gameplay.

The Krait is supposed to be a good ship but of course if you don't have the modules to transfer you're back to the same hamster wheel of Engineers.
Nothing wrong with engineers, as long as you're not a serial forum moaner that is!

Really, so nothing has been added to the game since Horizons?
Haha of course not. The fact that I barely recognise the game after my hiatus, and all that stuff about the ‘goids and the guardians was a figment of our imaginations. Not to mention the substantial changes to exploration, mining, planetary visuals, new ships, installations, engineering, organic structures, new player experience, mega ships, and whatever else has been discussed in this thread that I may be forgetting ;)

The only thing that isn’t new is the salt haha.

You are so right mate, the more FD add to the game, the more some here seem to resent it. Just wait until you start to work out which ones here are forum zombies, makes the reading here so much quicker lol

Happy trails Commander, may your vision be full of crackable asteroids full of Void Opals :D
