It's generally nice to see this patch to focus on fixing the network issue but I feel that stuttering near planets in SC and hyperspace, plus delay in entering hanger/landing/taking off plus FPS loss in stations are more bigger issue to focus on since it inhibits any players to play their game.

That means updates in missions were done not by responding to any bug report or known issue. It is most likely related with male only mission giver text, which Sandro fixed.

I wish i had your crystal ball wouldve saved me a couple of hundred K in fines.

Well Im afraid that what was the 2 or 3 second freezes approaching planets or stations in SC has now turned to freeze then crashes for me. Happens generally at around 15 to 20Ls, which means that Its pretty much impossible to do much now except for wandering around looking at the sights:)

<facepalm> they ARE network issues causing that

Seems to me all this crap they put in to reduce disconnects and give more log info just creates delays in actually getting the required info for the game to run smoothly.

Roll on Solo Offline so now network crap required.

yep same issues, no fixes, blah. However the log info has been reduced to try improve things. no improvement noticed my end. network issues GALORE. The p2p design of this game sucks so far.

So far, so good, open play getting better again. Just been in a dogfight with Wanted NPC`s with 3 other CMDRs and all was well with no lag. Sadly it did lock up when launching from the station again.

how is that so far so good then? lock up launching from station? honestly, i dont think FD understand how to fix these issues. From beta 2 to 3 and then 3.01, 3.02, 3.03, 3.04, and the lag, stuttering, launch bugs, station FPS drops, drops near large bodies, all when networking is under load, nothing is changing, if anything people are just getting more and more annoyed at the situation and the problems.

Bring back beta 2 network configuration. I'll take the fewer CDRs out there for the far, far, far better game (network) performance. leave mining and new content + functionality in.

I really dont get it. The game is chopped up into TINY instances (system-sized) where there is almost no interactive content and almost no players, compared to say large only FPS games, and its performance and stability is just abysmal. I dont get it. UDP doesnt require stateful connections. Why is the performance SO bad , and why are the devs not fixing this as the highest possible priority?

I've been forced into Solo only play due to the constant, massive issues, and now even that is starting to suffer from the same issues.

My first night playing in open all night (no solo). It was smoother tonight in open than it has been in solo play for me. I'm away from the core systems, but last night in solo play I had pretty severe stutters near any planets. Tonight it was smooth or very minor.

What a mess beta 3 is turning out to be. 3.04 Didn't help the majority of us. Solo play is worse with increased hitching and stutters. And also getting increased number of server disconnects. Add to that the huge number of broken things which used to work fine. Bring back beta 2!

My main issue was the disappearing missions which got worse in 3.04 and is reproducible now.

As for the stutters, why not cache the systems/stars and planets once loaded? I mean they could give us an option to specify some HD space for local caching so that we don't reload the same data from the servers over and over again. It seems like a completely rational thing to do especially with the number of players increasing, it could be the only viable option. For data updates or model changes, if the checksum is different, download the modified data, else load it from disk.

Cheers.

0115 (-5:00 gmt) This was my first time in open play and after being interdicted 3 times I was traveling to Alexandria Gateway in GS 180-18 system with load of clothes on mission to deliverr in a Cobra Mark III. Arrived and executed auto docking. Sat in queue waiting for the ship sitting in plain view of the mail slot (an npc "cop") failed to move and was sitting there motionless. Failed to answer my hail. I kept getting a "no target" error. I then bypassed the auto-docking by accelerating and entered the spaceport with permission to dock at landing 36. I misread it and though it said 35. Sailing past 36, I realized my mistake and preceded to turn around when I was issued a trespass warning. After 30 seconds, not time to exit the spaceport, I was summarily destroyed.

I was destroyed for turning about in the spaceport to find my landing pad? More to the point I was issued a trespass warning fined 1398 credits and I lost my cargo after being destroyed. Now I have a "Wanted" moniker over my name. This should not happen. This after just upgrading to 3.04 and playing in open play for the first time. I'm going back to solo play.

Nice work devs. Not had the best of times since Saturday. Sure there is still some stuttering and pause in SC but nothing as bad as it was. System map is working again, heck I can get into the game, couple of days this week that was not possible. Thanks for answering the tickets and all the help I received. Tonight (6th Nov) was probably the smoothest I have seen it in quite a while. :D

Nothing to do with open play I am afraid. You should be able to clear pad in less than 5 secs, just use your thrusters up so you won't linger on that platform anymore.

You know this because you have some secret stats somewhere? It's a dev build, regressions happen, ticket them and be done with.

This update should help with networking performance. Other fixes are in progress for other elements such as planets, although these will be in the next big release rather than an update.

Michael

Theres stuttering problems related to just plain old werever you go, solo mode or not. Its very reminiscent of the stuttering i get on the old Ghost Recon: ADvamced Warfare 2, like some kind of bottleneck with vsync and triple buffering. Sometimes, turning off vsync and triple buffering ingame, and then forcing them on through the ATI/nvidia software will do the trick, but not with Elite. Ive also had this on other games recently, and it went away when i reset all options in the ATI Catalyst options. Again, its not a question of raw graphics card power, as this happens on higher end cards aswell.

And i must agree. I'm starting to get worried as this doesn't look like beta any more, more like alpha. I mean, shouldn't beta be more orientated on testing of the gameplay features and not testing how long can you stay online before the game crashes or you need to reset all your progress?

Are the devs under too much pressure? Please let them rest, move the release date further in the future if that is needed, but do not make that error of releasing too early or rushing with the code design. Developer can not work more then 6-7 hours a day (highly focused) for more then a week! Keep that in mind.

Please, this game is a rare gem, treat it with patience!

Hey guys keep in mind that Frontier have multiple developers working on different aspects of the game.

Obviously the stuttering issues are a big problem and they are being looked into in parallel to other problems being fixed. The 3.04 update was a patch to remedy networking issues - which I am grateful for. No need to hold back on certain other fixes just because the one affecting you hasn't been sorted yet.

There's also a lot of doom-mongers and naysayers in here that seem to think their own problems reflect the world at large. That is simply not the case or these forums would be FLOODED with 10s of 1000s of posts all calling out the same issues.

Not to say people with problems are not to be heard, but it's simply not the case that everyone is experiencing all the same problems.

Let's hope Frontier continue to do such a fantastic job of releasing both content updates AND fixes for the game as it heads towards release.

All the armchair developers who are content to point out Frontier's mistakes in game design and implementation really should go out and have a cold drink. You really don't have any idea how complex Elite Dangerous is.

Just sitting back to observe what is actually in this game, what you can currently do, and what is planned, I feel only scratches the surface of the complexity involved in bringing this game to the masses...

Finally I would also like to add that it always seems to be the X.06 update that settles down. 1.06 and 2.06 were the case in points for the last two betas, so I'd expect at least another couple of updates for Beta 3 ;-)

It may be me but apart from bugs that creep in during the release of a big change the subsequent releases have solved many issues. Additionally I haven't experienced any disconnection issues since 3.03/04 were released.

Only thing I noted in Beta 3.03 was that when returning to a save where ship was docked my ship seemed to materialise in the framework of the station which appears now to have been fixed in 3.04. Stuttering also appears to be rare when I play.

Obviously I can ONLY speak from my own experience but felt I had to comment that not everyone is seeing the afore mentioned problems.

Of course it could be the time I'm logging in to play the game making a difference, quiet times on the network/server etc.
