in all its technical glory:

- Better network letter compression
I love your "technical" patch notes, there so "shaded" :p

Are we talking overall packet compression, or, char array compression (eg:user names)?

Enhanced network performance telemetry
Enhanced bandwidth readout meter? or
Optimized Vector3/Quat packets with compression and reduced tick rate?

Apply network bandwidth limits in all versions of the game
Max value?

Anyone know how large the update is? I only ask as i am limited on how much data i can use and it resets tomorrow...

Any responses much appreciated! :D

Didn't see the total amount but it only took about 10 seconds to download....seems pretty small. less than 100MB most likely.

Your lucky mine still sat at 0MB/s and downloaded diddly squat in 25 minutes.

Connection is fine, just checked it.

Edit: Just reset it a second time and now downloading at 0.22MB/s which is about as fast as we get round here in sticks.

2nd Edit: finished downloading and Play ready after very short period.

Wish this forum would not edit out spacing lines, makes text very crowded.

Does anything of that fix the frame stuttering (which totally kills the immersion)?

Are you devs even aware of that problem? Can't find any statement from FD on that matter o_O

ps: Oh, and thanks for the update :p

Doubtful since that's not network related. I get it in solo and network traffic is ZERO up/down when stuttering occurs

Not that anyone will care, but as I live in a very pretty place that British Telecom don't earn much money from, The big updates take 6+ hours to download. I prefer one big download so I can leave it overnight. Looking at the progress bar for this download you are all safe from my poor flying whilst docking tonight.

Lady Render is being taken to the pub tonight

If you mean near planets, there is no improvement whatsoever and none of the tweaks previously mentioned help at all for my setup. I flew towards the dock in Dahan and counted to 4 while the game totally froze. Then I turned away since the AI like to jump you as you are in the middle of the stutter fest and was jumped by a Cobra a few seconds later. Was able to evade since I managed to get clear of the stutter "zone".

The stutter fest is probably the game loading the encounter with the AI. Sometimes I have it, but not always. I dont think it's network related. If I restart the game it goes away. Memory-leak maybe...?

The stutter is there regardless of AI. Its related to certain types of planets. There is a long thread not too far down on the forums that goes into quite a bit of detail. Unfortunately Michael has indicated that the fix for the problem isn't in this patch.

I just got back from holiday so haven't played beta 3 yet. Anyway updated the launcher earlier and updated to 3.03. Just saw this thread and trying to get 3.04 but it is saying my game is up to date.

There are different causes for stuttering frame rate, some are more prevalent on some machines more than others. Multiplayer networking is the cause of some - most notably that which occurs in open opposed to solo play. Planets are currently another major source - particularly in supercruise. There are some other issues as well currently being investigated, but they are the two biggies right now.

Hey, I saw 'telemetry,' and something about 'requests.' This must be a multiplayer-focused update! Thanks, FD! I've been hoping to get (and stay) into the MP game for a while. Hoping this lets me wreck real-people pirates, trying to take my fake-people medicine, for fake sick people!

Planet lag was introduced with the improved planet textures etc, can't we ( the royal we) just revert back to the old type while its being worked on and it be re-introduced in a later release once its hopefully resolved?

Would that not help you resolve/identify what is causing the stutter (network or graphics)

No - because it's a lot more than just bigger and better textures.
