Patch Notes Update Beta update 3 - incoming

"Overhaul Feedback Cascade: Now rather than breaking the shields, will inhibit the shield cell to only heal 10% of what it otherwise would do, and will deal direct damage to the shield cell bank equal to half the weapon damage"

Can I shake the hand to whomever made this change. Thank you.

Are the ship lights fixed yet? Yes, smallest of the small issues but I need my ship lights so I can take my 575 m/s Viper through canyon night racing!

PLEASE, I BEG MERCY FRONTIER!

Could you guys please stop deleting files from my harddrive? I understand patching means outdated files must be replaced, fine. But there is no reason to delete unrelated files from these folders. The steam patcher doesnt seem to do it AFAIK, but after every patch I lose whatever screenshots and notes in that folder, I have to re-install gemFX, fix my ini files etc. Is there anything I can do to stop that? If not, is there something you can do on your end? :(

Having said that: thanks for the patch. :)

Am I the only one that is adding an exclamation mark every time they say fish, and then hearing "Today's fish is Trout a la Creme, enjoy your meal" in reply...

So long, & thanks for all the fish :).

I see that FDev is still following their tradition of rushing the beta phase :( . I guess the Apocalypse phase will be this time next week, and then Public Release will be a couple of days later.

That would fit-in Mark Allan appearing to accidentally imply that Beta will last "a couple of weeks":

A shame, as I'm sure the major changes in 2.1 need more time for balancing than 2 weeks.

edit: Phase 1 lasted 5 days. I can't see any reason to cut it so short, unless you wanted Mayhem to last 7 days, and leave around 2 days spare for Apocalpyse.

I do agree with you. I think they should extend phase 1 by another week. Phase 2 & phase 3 can be short.

My update got stuck and eventually I got the dreaded "Failed to read from response stream...". Eventually deleted the whole folder and re-installing. Only 17 hours to go :)

Just sent FD a support ticket for the required data.ovl file.

I'd be dreading downloading the beta all over again for another 17 hours.
But hey If anyone would be so kind as to post their own data.ovl I'd be most grateful.

It's in beta right now so you can't. Unless you have access to beta you can't get 2.1 until it goes live.

I know this. But i have the Life time expansion ;)

I played beta 1 without any problems, but since beta 2 i´m not able to press the update button at the launcher. The button is greyed out for no reason.
Everything else works. i´m also able to play the 1.6 mission beta. Maybe a problem with Steam?

Problem solved, there was already a thread here in the forums.

Actually mate, I had that happen, just go to the game folder, and search for *.part, delete any that show up in the search list, and *.progress, delete any that show up in the search list, then retry the download.

Worked fantastic for me on PC here... Another thing I did when I had this happen more than once in a row was to use the 'alternate download' option which is under options in the launcher

No, I think this is a really good thing.

The problem with the current phase is that it's taking a long time for everyone to find all the Engineers, get the invitation, get the recipes, find the ingredients, return to the Engineer and craft the upgrades. Move on to level 2.... repeat. So very few Beta players are testing the upgraded items' balance, they're still muddling about finding Engineers.

Moving on to the Mayhem stage sooner means the devs get more info on bugs in the upgrades modules and balance between them. The balancing - in particular - is something that's hard to get right with a small internal test group, this is where Beta phases really add their worth.

Anyone else getting a "Could not connect to server. ... (500)" error when trying to open outfitting in beta 3?

Actually it's almost the other way around. As we move through beta it's necessary to be stricter on what things can be changed. To pick a couple of examples (by no means the be-all and end-all, just illustrative):

- We need all the specials testing soon so that if there are problems or overhauls needed then we have a shot at changing the functionality. Given it takes some time to design & implement the change, time in QA, then bundle up into the next release and wait for bugs/feedback. Potentially with more than one loop around, each taking some number of days.
- Exactly what % bonus a specific recipe can give is an easy data change to make with very low technical risk, similarly for how much rep crafting gives you.

Bringing Mayhem in sooner means we have a better chance to nail down the former kind of question :).

Why exactly? Phase 2 is the most important of the phases as it's where everything is available for us to test.

Ah, cool, thanks very much for the concise explanation there Mark. Can't you tell that I clearly have no idea about how software development works? ;) It's just a shame that I came so late to the Beta Test "party"!
