Game Discussions Bethesda Softworks Starfield Space RPG

I do too, well, the part at the start that I played before my rig tried to melt. Sadly, my ancient potato is falling apart: i7-6700 (1 generation behind minimum) and a 1080ti (barely good enough) is showing its age now .. Perfect for what I use it for, but the new wave of modern games is starting to demand more.

Going on holiday tonight, but when I get back it's time to upgrade to something more modern!

My specs are similar, 6700K and 1080ti but it’s hardly melting. I’m playing at 1440p and toned down the settings enough to get mostly 50-60 fps depending on the situation, sometimes dipping into the high 40s. Sure it’s not the best looking but it’s not that bad and I prefer smoother gameplay to better graphics, and not overheating the card but I’m likely cpu bottlenecked anyways. GPU temps are high 50s to mid 60s C.

Hopefully performance further improves with patches as well as optimization mods that are likely to come out.

I have now played Starfield for a rough 9 hours. I got a coupon for it alongside my new RX 7900 XTX graphics card. This is the first Bethesda's game I have ever played, because I'm not much interested in role-playing games. But I got interested in trying out Starfield because of the space theme and the massive hype, so I decided to pay 57 Euros extra for the graphics card to get the game coupon. So now after having spent some time in the game I would like to tell how I feel about it.

My topmost feeling is a huge disappointment because of the almost total lack of space flight, not having even the option to use a joystick to fly my ship, and not getting a feeling of traveling in space. I was fully expecting to be able to travel in space in this game, but no!

The game has a lot of walking. I have already gotten a bit bored because of all the walking and no space travel.

The black loading screens are not good. The developers should have tried harder to put some animations in their place.

Graphics in Starfield look good almost everywhere. I am playing at native 4K, with not quite Ultra settings, with a few settings turned down a notch or two, based on the Hardware Unboxed recommended settings.

Background music is quite good, and sound effects are well done, too.

Now my game character is almost out of money because I bought quite a lot of gear, so next I should try some missions to earn money. I already mined palladium and some other resources on Mimas, but their values turned out to be really low, so that work is not worthwhile.

I guess I will be soon back in Elite Dangerous. Starfield has made me understand better how great a space game ED Odyssey is.

Starfield makes Elite Dangerous great again! 😁

Again this is a Bethesda RPG. I cant get why one would expect anything else, even by very remotely following the previews and announcements, it was very clear it would be "Skyrim in space" ... This game could be compared to The Outer Worlds for example, which has no space flight either, still an excellent game, I hope Starfield will be just as good if not better (with less of a linear story for instance).

I had no idea of the concept of a "Bethesda RPG", because I had never tried any of them, and I was curious. Starfield is the first this kind of a game for me, and probably will be also the last.

What ! Starfield has launched here, but expecting it to be cheaper than the early access pre-launch price, it's the same.

For me DLSS will bring more performance boost than FSR, but it's missing from the game, when even AMD game chief said "If they want to do DLSS, they have AMD’s full support." And yet it's missing = dissatisfied customer ( but not enough to abandon the game totaly, just invest less then usual, since i think i should get a good pefromance even with Native 1080p)

No one is blocking DLSS, but without NVIDIA's active participation, it's up to modders to add it, which they have.

DLSS without frame generation has no meaningful issues and is trivially easy to enable. Personally, I'm using the frame gen version of mod I linked to earlier, but with frame generation disabled, so I can still use Reflex (the only way to consistently get sub three frames of latency on NVIDIA).

Not that anyone can tell the difference from a YouTube video, but this is 4k ultra, 80% render scale, DLSS preset "C", plus Reflex with boost, and frame generation disabled:

On a less technical note, I finally found an automatic weapon I like and ammo is proving plentiful enough. Will probably mod the game for more plausible ammunition mass, so my character isn't carrying around 10k rounds of various types all the time.

I haven't tried any yet, but texture mods seem like they'd be a good place to start:

Game is awesome, and incredibly immersive a solid 10/10.
Even Performance is better than i expected. At 2560x1440 on i5-10600k 16GB Ram and 4070ti - 45-60 FPS in New Atlantis on Ultra Settings with out FSR.

What's with the enemies seen through walls?

Ingame I guess. Wallhack is a popular feature in games. It comes usually coupled with a need of a weapon that has extreme penetration. Compare CP2077 Ping hack and the charge-up weapons e.g.
I have a couple of weapons that do that, It's an in game weapon mod. Haven't really paid attention to which one though, I guess it's a type of scope?
