Game Discussions Bethesda Softworks Starfield Space RPG

Based on my observations of weapons, suits, helmets and packs that I have seen so far, the quality categories are:
  1. Base model, no descriptor
  2. Calibrated
  3. Refined
  4. Advanced
If there is a Superior level, I don't yet have access to gear at that level. I'm currently at player level 51.

In yesterday evening I installed the mod Randomised Or Levelled Vendor Credits, made by @rootsrat. I selected the "Rich vendors" variant, and it really helps with selling looted gear. The Trade Authority kiosk at Spaceport New Atlantis had 12500 Cr, and the Trade Authority office in the Well had over 180000 Cr. If it's like that most of the time, I don't need to run to several places so much, or even jump to different planets, to sell looted gear, which is really good. This mod was very easy to install manually without the Script Extender. Thanks to Rootsrat for this QoL improvement! (y)

Calibrated, that was the one. That's all the weapon tiers.
Superior is then a tag you'll see on packs, helmet, suit.

Out of curiosity, are you using RNG or levelled version?

Head out to the systems labelled as lvl 50+.
At least half my Superior kit came out of rando boxes in the middle of nowhere.

I downloaded the RNG version. Sorry I forgot to mention that. I think that version is more realistic.
Thanks, was just curious. I've seen a few downloads for the Poor Vendors variants, literally thought they'd be never downloaded and yet someone actually is using them :D

Oh boy, people do the weirdest stuff we don't want to even know about. Could be actually playing, but maybe they just download and look at the parts that changed to understand how it's done.

I've been using a little script command to totally screw up vendors. It causes them to refresh every time you buy anything. They get their entire balance back, and all the gear and everything is refreshed too. It's bonkers, and I don't recommend it, because it re-shuffles all the ammo they have, weapons, everything, every purchase.

But it IS funny and kind of fun once you are in the "mess with the game as much as possible" phase. I am currently in that phase.

I shall put it here in a spoiler. :p

So when you see something good you better buy it, because next transaction it's gone anyway. That is the ultimate FOMO dilemma: have several good iffera at the same time - you miss out in any case.
It's not a bad idea. Get an abundant range of offers but you cant have them all.

I shall take that advice, but a bit later. I think I haven't yet raided pirate bases in systems above level 30. I want to gradually advance to more dangerous systems.

I have lately advanced in the main story so far that my companion Barrett has a magic trick too, in which he spawns a clone of himself, which helps in combat. The clone uses the same weapon as Barrett is using at the moment he spawns the clone. I can do a similar trick as well. Because of that we are now a much stronger assault team, so I'm a lot more confident about surviving in higher level systems than before.

Just don't go to Schrödinger III. No artificial buildings and bases spawn there seemingly. Bloody paradise worlds.

To be honest, considering how little time dependent the game is (aside from the occasional quest where something must happen within a number of days), whether one sits or sleeps for 1 or 1000 hours has no effect whatsoever on anything, and therefore the whole vendor reset concept is completely useless, just an artificial bottleneck with no actual purpose.

What you did is actually commendable.

At least until the passing of time becomes a meaningful aspect of the gameplay, vendors shouldn't have a limited budget or reset time.

The sleep issue teaches an important thing: Sleep is healthy. Sleep is good. I use sleep instead of med packs if there is occasion. Mind your sleep hygiene - it's important. I have had times when I went "It's actually a good idea" and went for a nap for real.

I think the only thing your rank affects is the stock in the city vendors. If you go to a high level system you don't have to do any of the bases, you can just pick stuff off the concrete slab terrain pieces that they scatter around them. If you go the airless moons there isn't even any local wildlife to contend with.

I sleep in game whenever I can, not to reset vendors, but to heal and gain the xp bonus, and if it's 15 minutes or 100 hours it doesn't make a difference to me.
Sometimes, however, I am not sure if I really sleep, according to Sarah's comments, at least. (Which is something I find particularly amusing when we find a cot outdoors on an airless moon)
