Game Discussions Bethesda Softworks Starfield Space RPG

I tried most of the cockpits and the Himeji Command Bridge (level 33) by Taiyō Astroneering has the best unobstructed view, but only 2 crew stations. The second best is the Cabot C4 Bridge (level 25) by Nova Galactic (also 2 crew stations). The Cabot C4 is wider with 2 floors and 2 doors so it's easier to walk inside the ship.

All the other cockpits including the more expensive types have a worse frontal view of space.

Yep at higher levels the vendors will have more and better parts in stock.
Correct and higher tier too, in the beginning you can only build A class ships, at the highest skill level you can build the mighty C class ships, which cost a fortune btw.

So are you guys bored with this game yet, or does it truly provide years of playability?
I'm still going. 125 hours in, bingeing this game clearly. Though earlier today, being a weekend, I did a bit of racing games.

I can't complain at this point. With how I'm playing, Starfield is working for me.

For spoiler-free reference on how I'm playing... I only did 3 or 4 main story missions, which gave me access to everything for basic play (some things are story hidden, prior to those missions). And then I moved out of "The Lodge" and into my own ship. It was cheap and small and ugly, but I've rebuilt it a half dozen times now, and really made it everything I currently want. The Constellation NPCs haven't seen me in ages. I left them all at the lodge. Seems they mostly are designed to propel the main story (which I'm not into) and give story/romance flavor... again, not what I want.

I did hire one NPC crew that offers two areas of expertise, and assigned him to my ship.

I don't feel like I'm crunched for credits. I've been buying (and wasting money on) quite a few ship modules, trying out different builds. Bought a nice spacesuit for 10k credits. I've still got around 130k in the bank. I never do much in the way of looting/selling. Maybe a rare gun or suit that's pricey. Most of that cash has come from exploration mission pay, a few cargo or passenger missions when I travel, and finding it in crates/on pirates.

Materials for my research have been something I just grab if I'm clearing a pirate site, but 90% so far comes from the various vendors. It's cheap to buy, what like 10 to 40 credits per unit? So far I've only needed 10 or fewer of most materials. Those material have been well invested in a few spacesuit mods, and weapon mods.

Customizing my weapons has been unexpectedly engrossing. I play a stealth type of combat, and have a few stats that give me stealth and headshot bonuses. Adding suppressors and armor piercing rounds with these bonuses makes the stealth play immensely rewarding. When the cover is blown and the alarms are sounded... I switch to some awesome shotguns and blast away. Once I'm the last man standing, I toggle off the base alarms, and go silent once again.

The final thoughts have to be about exploration. Still the best I've played in a space game. My time spent exploring a planet feels like I'm 100% engaged. Some of the planets/moons take a good 2 or 3 hours to fully survey. And so far it suits me fine.

As you mention in a later post (than the one I quoted), this is all YMMV stuff.

That's quite a lot! So Starfield is first and foremost an on-foot combat game, when that activity is far more lucrative than any other activities in the game. But the other activities can still be enjoyable, though not very lucrative.
That's very true. Thinking about it I realized that up to my current level of 12 capturing ships and selling it net me only ~2k profit. That's the price of a good gun at that level, but it's not as easily repeatable as skipping across a planet and raiding POI.

Hmm ... I am now at 346hrs, Im only on my 5th multiverse though, as im playing dead is dead (kinda, I go back to the last time I went through the UNITY, or changed multiverse if you dont know what that means. When I die.) So had to go back quite a few times :)

Some things do change but most of the things I thought would change for longevitys sake do not.
I expected the planets to be diffrent in terms of resourses, fauna and flora. but they are always the same so far for me.
Weapon locations and the things people sell remain the same. I would have liked much more procedual generation on each creation of the multiverse. (maybe it will get modded in)

I expect there is about 1 or 2 thousand hours in the game for me, after that it will become stale.
Without mods or DLCs I cannot see it providing Years of playability to someone like myself, for someone who only pays 2-4hrs a week ? hmmm maybe..?

Its a fantastic looking game, really very very good looking.
Im very much looking forward to a survival hardcore mode :)

I doubt it will get anywhere close to the 11,000hrs I have in Elite :)

All in All its doing what I expected ... a kinda skyrim in space thing.

I sort of enjoyed the lockpicking for a while, but it became tedious. So many locks presented themselves, and often there was nothing valuable behind them anyway.
Hmm... this is exactly how I felt after ED introduced the FSS. Fortunately, it's only dozens of locks in SF, rather than billions.

I found a little batch script that changed all the locks to simple 2 click things, and it made me much happier.
Can you find one for ED? Please? (It would be so nice to make ED my favourite game again.)

Boarding a Spacer Hyena last night was surprised to find zero G conditions aboard.
That was a whole new level of crazy with trying to control floating in and out of cover, explosive canisters floating into the line of fire and boosting down a corridor past the opposition. If anyone knows how to disable artificial grav on enemy ships I'm all ears.

I love and hate that zero-G stuff. My only experience with it was on a disabled ship with grav switching on and off. I guess if it was always off it'd be more fun. I expecially like getting recoiuled back when shooting.

I have 157 hours, one playthrough of the main storyline and I am ~ Level 62.

So far, I still like it and I play it almost daily. I like the range of activities that are readily accessible. If I want so action, I can investigate a POI or take a bounty contract. If I feel like doing some misisons, there are plenty of quests and mini storylines available (just like in any other Bethesda game). I can be creative and build and decorate my outposts or housing options or just go exploring. Starfield has indeed become my Elite replacement.

Some storylines are great and others are "only" okay. So far I haven't met a single storyline where I would say "meh, that was bad". Even the main storyline is okay. It's a good twist on the whole "repeated playthroughs" topic with some surprises in the plot, some really great moments and some missed opportunities along the way. As I said, it's okay. Not great, but not bad either.

The economy feels "alright". The 5000 credits limit of vendors is a bit annoying, because it's not stopping me from selling all my loot. It just means I have to spent more time running around to sell my loot. Building a decent (endgame) ship from scratch costs ~ 350.000 to 400.000 Credits, which is about right. Not too long, but not to easily obtainable either. The "bottleneck" that will take the longest time is probably leveling the skill points for better modules.

I'm not going to lie, there are a few things that irk me (but are obviously not bad enough to make me stop playing the game):

After 150 hours, the POIs (especially for bounty hunting missions) can become repetitive.

Bethesda missed the opportunity to introduce a basic command menu for your companions (go there, advance, fall back, use X weapon, attack target etc.).

I still haven't figured out if it's a bug or a feature: The game throws low level and roughly equal level opponents at me at the same time. There can be a level 5 dude that dies to a single bullet and right next to him is a level 45 guy that feels somewhat more appropriate. Same applies to ships: Sometimes I run into Level 5 ships that escort level 38 ships.

While there are plenty of weapons, there could have been more. But you can always have more weapons, can't you?

I've run into a few bugs, that have been annoying, but nothing game breaking (like a bunch of resuced scientists that refused to leave my ship after completing the mission).

To conclude: For a vanilla Bethesda game without mods, Starfield is already a fun game that can easily provide hundreds of hours gameplay. For comparison: I have played multiple different characters in Skyrim and I liked that game a lot, but "only" got to 455 hours in standard edition with an additional 39 hours in the Special editon. Fallout 4 (another great game) comes at 378 hours in multiple characters and Fallout 76 with 185 hours on steam (with pre-steam Fallozut 76 I should be at ~300 hours again). What am I trying to say here? In all those games I needed multiple years to get to those hours played and all games were heavily modded. In Starfield I got to 157 hours in about a month and haven't even installed a single mod yet.

Strangest thing with reworking the bucket (Frontier). I upgraded reactor and shields to B class but the shield power stayed way below rated strength. Like half the rated strength. Had to get the Mantis ship and completely reworked it burning all der calories. Now I'm broke again.
Only 1 shop found that sells lubricants. This must be the rarest material.

I got this free ship from my parents, "kids stuff" treat, and decided to modify it here and there.
Hence my latest C class ship, it's exactly 80 meters long and has no ladders.

Herding Beetelcrab Grazer on Beta Marae I - wil drop Lubricants ;-)

I truly love the ship part, and how you can build your own, also the docking and combat at stations and ships is very enjoyable, there are so many things they did right, so the small complains there are is really just because we want ED space and Starfield RPG mechanics :D

I think it's their engine that is the limit here, it is struggling with crating a true open universe like ED, however the planets are great, where I see improvements can be done is besides space mechanics like flight etc. the NPC pattern is also very basic, it could really use some work, no one pick up the dead, NPC,s do not have a routine etc. and the economy is also very static, this is where I see they cut the corners.

Well to early to tell, but I guess there are at least 1000 hours in it, I like the bounty hunting and such, it's for sure a game I will be returning to from time to time, the base building and "empire" building is what I like and I can spend hours just perfecting my outposts, so that alone will give me many hours of gametime.

I like the bounty hunting and such,
Question - when you say bounty hunting, is this space ship combat, on foot combat, or both? I could see a version where you have to find someone in their ship, disable their ship, board their ship, and take them alive for the maximum payout. That would be pretty epic. Is this how it's done in Starfield?
