Maybe you could have the decay be relative to the square of the level? An hour at 1, 4 at 2, 9 at 3, 16 at 4, ect? It would take little over 2 weeks to go back to 0 from 10, but the occasional accidental crime would still have a quick decay period.

Not to split hairs, but it's pretty hard to accidentally commit murder.

It blocks you from paying off bounties since b3.

Not following along... too much cross talk going on.

For the record, I like the progressive time proposals made by others. I think those are the sweet spot for me.

I am reminded in this case of a sailing adage:

"It is also common practice to have 1.5x the amount of fuel needed for a trip on board."

To date, my use of Synthesized FSD boosts have, with only a singular exception, have all been to reach a Fuel star. One was just to beat someone to a destination because I could.

And we maintained a fuel reserve.

Dependence on jumponium is substance abuse. :(

Yes, repeat/habitual behaviour (ganking) needs to get picked up on, and treated more harshly. Allowing it to be washed away over each night doesn't sound good...

Bump a harmless npc with a big ship and it might explode, have a player purposefully ram into you or run in front of your line of fire with 1% hull left, or the circumstance that sleutelbos mentioned. Sure, all of these are things an experienced player should be able to avoid, but everyone makes mistakes and new players don't always know what not to do.

Funny, I somehow managed to avoid them all.

The sad fact is that bounties will be significantly *weaker*, & less prevalent, than they were under the old system. I see very few people being dumb enough to allow a bounty to stand for more than an hour....not with the increase in the number of Interstellar Factors in the galaxy......& no premiums for paying them off. Sadly FDev have again caved in to the whiner crowd.

Good for you. Now be so kind as to get off your horse and spare a thought for those who are not so amazing as you are. Its Elite: Dangerous, not Elitist: Dangerous. I disagree with the b3 system, and think it should scale more at least, but its really absurd to claim that new players should be punished immediately for a whole week real time just because the Amazing Marc Hicks never made a mistake.

Not that hard for a new player, who goes into res, has barely a clue what happens, no awareness of surroundings and pew pews with gimballed weapons being chaffed. Its easy to accidentally hit the wrong ship, or not know you should wait for the scan to complete before hitting an obvious pirate. These are lessons they learn, and sometimes the ship you got a bounty for gets butchered by cops. You then get a murder penalty, and if it takes a week to go back to notoriety 0 as some want then these new players are banished for a week from there system as they cant pay off bounties.

I'm anxious to give 3.0 another go tonight with all these changes. I DO hope, though, that the dark side of planets/moons hasn't been lightened up too much. I really hate how light they are in 2.4. It's just unrealistic. I should absolutely have to turn on my lights to see much of anything when I'm on the dark side unless there's a reasonable amount of reflective light coming from a nearby planet or moon.

I posted a shot here:

Anyone test to see if interdictions with the Chieftan have been fixed? Meaning the interdiction circle isn't centered with the target? Has been broken in both Beta 1 and 2, reported day 1. See no mention of it so far.

Also what about:
- Ships on assigned pads (9 months old)
- "Leaving Wing" showing while in wing (2+ years old)
- Cargo hatch reverting to priority 3 when respawning (6 months old)

That's just off the top of my head....

What if notoriety 1 and 2 still allowed you to pay off bounties, but at a 10% and 50% markup, and then notoriety above 2 couldn't be paid off, but notoriety decayed in terms of days to a week per level like you suggest?

Dude, think of the lesson you'll learn from touching that hot stove, though!

Sorry, but I am *not* a fan of the Notoriety decay rate. Having it decay in *hours* makes it an almost irrelevent stat. If I could have my way, it would only decay on death (1 point per death), but if its going to decay, then I would prefer it to be 1 point per *week*. It really feels like you are back peddling on C&P!

1 week = 168 hours.

Assuming the average player plays 4 hours a day, it would take 42 days in the real world to reduce one point.

Hey, it's not a bug! Please, turn it back!

If they intended the dark side of bodies to be light(ish) then this was a bug.

Personally I haven't managed to get in to check how much lighter things are now yet, if the dark side is as bright as live then I will be somewhat disappointed if the dark side is 50% brighter than the earlier betas then I will be happy.

The previous level of darkness was just about fine on standard no threat planets but there is no way I would be going near an alien "base" with those lighting levels they were too creepy even with the current live levels of lighting.

I am *not* amazing. Nor do I believe I am. In fact I am pretty crap as a pilot, so the fact these things never happened to me prove they are easy enough to avoid. Still doesn't alter the fact that a notoriety that disappears in an hour is pointless, especially when you can go to another jurisdiction, swap to a new ship, & proceed for an hour until that notoriety disappears like vapour.

Then hold off going into a RES. I didn't touch a RES until after a full month into the game. No, they won't be banished from their system, as they can hop into a clean ship where their notoriety will have little to no impact on them.
