Big problem when we want to smash our heads into the wall while playing this game....

I will keep coming back here and keep posting because it's just not getting through the dev's heads. The game has way too much prep work before you can actually DO anything. My god....my friend and I just want to play the game but instead we find ourselves spending HOURS (our entire play session) just PREPPING and then we either hit another brick wall (like finding out we need a permit for a certain system) or we run out of time and we can't play any more. This is the norm and it's just absolutely insane.

Here are some actual suggestions to help with the problem, pick any or all or even just run with the basic idea of the suggestions;

  • Once you unlock an engineer you can access ALL their engineering from ANY station and you can access the experimental from any station as well.
  • Allow us to set ship "Profiles" so that instead of constantly going "okay now where did I put that component?" and having to check all your ships, it just moves everything appropriately and SAVES weapon slots and fire configurations.
  • Make some "magical" space storage system so you always have access to your components no matter where you are (no more sending them around all over the galaxy).
  • Reduce the required engineering mats by like....I don't know, half?
just...in general, if something is GRINDY or FARMY, REDUCE it or get rid of it. Come on guys....I want to PLAY the game. Please :\

Most of the so called "prep" work is actually playing the game. If you think playing the game equals, making an account, buying a fully buffed conda and jumping straight into a hazrez is playing the game, got news for you, you just skipped most of the game. It's like MMO players demanding end game armour and weapons as soon as they download a MMO so they can play end game raids. It takes time, effort and a lot of work to actually get to end game content, in most games it won't even let you try to join end game content until you are nearly max level. ED lets you jump into a hazrez from the moment you buy the game, doesn't mean you are going to get anywhere unless you actually do the prep work though!

A lot of us enjoy this, because it's a big part of both the simulation and the amplified sense of accomplishment down the road.

I take it you're not a particularly big fan of mmos then.

I want to PLAY the game.
I think you might be playing the wrong game.

I'm not trying to be a big old Richard here, but ED is like most space sims in that there's a lot of faffing about. Engineering is implemented in an absolutely garbage way in this game, but that's its own Hotel California; people will argue about the best replacement to the current system for 50+ pages, and nothing will change.

This is the way. Parts of it suck, but it's the road you have to walk. Find tutorials on how to load up on rare materials quickly and dedicate a week or so to unlocking. That's the floor covered in broken glass that we all had to walk across in bare feet. Some of us more than once.

What you're calling "prep work" is actually the gameplay. I'm sorry to say that if you really don't like it, you'll probably not enjoy this game much.

Being more positive, exactly what is it you and your friend want to do? Maybe here we can advise you how to get onto it without needing engineering, unlocking or suchlike.

This forum is really for player advice. I think it's unlikely that devs read much of it.

Why do people want to trim the game at the detriment of other players?
"I only want to play this part of the game" they harp "Take out the other stuff I don't want"
"Don't make me have to fly somewhere" they wail "what, I actually have to develop different ships for different purposes, all I want is a ship that does everything, so that I can shoot my mate in the face"
They only seem to want to play the end game. Top tip, this game has no "end game", you will never complete it, there is no boss to defeat and it will never display "The end, congratulations you have won" followed by the credits.
"Why do I have to develop my ship" they complain "I want the best ship straight away".
You are playing the wrong game. This is not a god vs god ultimate battle game that can be picked up and played for half an hour.
Its a multi career, multi layered, HUGE game that will leave you challenged and learning stuff after thousand of hours of play.

Sure there are other games with only a few places to visit, a few things to do, that you will complete in a week or so. Elite is not one of those. It can be a bit repetitive, it can be frustrating at times, it has the potential for being so much better, but it is the only game that I have played every single day for two straight years and I can see me playing it for many years to come. I still don't have the best ship I can. I don't care, that will give me something to do in the future.

It's not every ones cup of tea, but if you don't like it play something else, don't ask for it to be crippled so that it only does what you want.

At this point, I think OP is just trolling. It is their fourth thread like this, the first one being almost two years old. Even if it were the case that we had to re-prep our ships every time we want to play the game (spoiler: It is not), after two years it should not take six hours to re-outfit a ship, as claimed by OP. I give you 20 minutes for that, tops.

I don't think they and their friend have talked at length about this, because they should have figured this out by now. I suggest to no longerplay.

I wonder how they would feel about carrying out a virtual airline's scheduled flight online in MSFS 2020? :ROFLMAO:

Prep work in ED, they don't know the meaning of the word!

Agreed, but what an odd troll. It's like "Hmm... what forums haven't I trolled in years? Oh right, Elite Dangerous! I'll go over there and complain about the same thing I did 2 years ago!"

And if it's not a troll, we're dealing with possibly the trickest sauce on the shelf.

I'm agree with basic aspect of your opinion, but not with your suggestions.

I think Frontier have to do something to some aspects like easily understand and prepare player, but without remove the simulation core of the game or make it too "arcade".
IMO the better way they can do these aspects is working on optimized panels/menus UI to easily understand what you have, what you have collected, what you needs, what you've unlock, create wishlist, smart descriptions to understand basics stuff...

Making interfaces more smart to avoid force players to switch between external tools every minute or get lost browsing trough menus that works only in certains locations or unlinked from information you need...that's no make sense for me. Improve UI is the real update we needs for this game to avoid frustations.

The real issue of this game is that's impossible to play without external tools or by loosing time to search stuff on internet while playing.
