As I understand (and correct me if i'm wrong) but it also has no servers or persistent world to host, its just battles. By definition, there won't be a grind. Its like saying Overwatch doesn't have a grind. There is a campaign mode (which as i understand can be played coop), which is perhaps akin to C&C or similar type games?

While someone else buying out FD could go either way, i wouldn't like to gamble on the chances that it would be for the better, and anyone prematurely celebrating this idea might want to keep in mind that if it happens it could be a company like Tencent (who already own 9% of FD).
If Tencent bought them out, then first of all i'd laugh at everyone who called for another company to take over FD, and then i'd cry, because i could guess at what the future will bring.

The thing about Microsoft is if they want a property, they'll throw enough money at it to fix problems and expand development. If you haven't, check out the X-Box documentary on YouTube. Umm, no. MW5 with both DLCs contains two campaigns with hand crafted missions, but it also contains an infinite number of generated missions employing a dozen mission types, many different biomes, factions to ally with or against, etc.
Career mode is an open-ended sandbox. You can play the same career for decades in gametime--take part in or ignore "historical events" like the 4th succession war.
Activities are limited to combat, building mechs and trading salvage, but you can play as long as you like.
Galactic lore events only occur from 3015 (game start) to 3049 (when the Clans invade) but there are mods for that.

It's how much of that they'd want to spend on a game that with the best will in the world, isn't going to have the biggest player base you'll ever see.
Plus, Starfield is going to be a bigger seller than Skyrim according to Phil Spencer. Not sure where ED would fit in there.
