Broke and Miserable in a Beautiful Game

Thanx, thats where Im playing now :) ..spent a good amount of time blastin away at ships in contested space only to later realize no credits are earned there, LOL

I think you should earn 500 cr per kill there - if you select a faction.

It's going to be harder against other alpha players because the majority of alpha's playing have been doing so for months - you'll just have to try and farm NPCs as best you can.

I've made a few videos on making money in Alpha 3 that you might be interested in. Keep in mind, I'm currently using a Cobra, but I do make comments on which scenarios are more 'beginner friendly'. My theme with the videos is how much money can you make in 5 minutes of solo play in an average run... If you're interested, check them out here:

Will be working on getting all four scenarios in the playlist.

Thnx ive seen ur vid nice stuff..its too advanced for me at the moment tho....being new to ED can anyone suggest a place to meetup with other players for group combat??

...yeah so forked out the nearly 300$ for the beloved Alpha and spent almost 8hrs trying to earn me some good ole credits...there doesnt seem to be much in the way of doing this...no mining, dogfighting is a joke in a stock sidewinder and scoopin up the occasional "lost" canister took hours and yeilded very little (also got me blasted to hek!) so im frustrated and broke and was hoping others have some advice for a newb sap

PS- Nearly wet my pants when I experienced this very polished Alpha..just awesome...coming from SC I became accustomed to being underwhelmed..ELITES BACK! :D

Advice and help is always available try flying in the combat bond at first and use one gimballed pulse lazor . selling the guns that come with your free sidewinder will give you some credits and never upgrade until after you sell what is already mounted . At the moment the value shows as 0 but they are worth what ever they cost to buy . A good way to earn cash is try the free for all and as long as their are no other commanders in at the same time you should be able to destroy at least 3 or 4 sidewinders , then jump out and back to the starport it is always cheaper to repair your ship than pay the insurance fee . A lot of commanders will help the new Cmdr's you just have to find a way to communicate with them . I played the combat bond until I could jump in with the basic sidewinder then jump out when I had destroyed 6 or more sidewinders .

Asteroid Belt is likely where you'll find a good number of players. Or Federal Combat Bond (but that's where you're *supposed* to be working together to defeat the pirates). If you're not able to handle Contested Space, I wouldn't recommend trying to go head to head with other players, unless you can find someone else just starting out. Most Alphas have at least some upgrades and combat experience behind them, so they'll generally be harder than the average pirate in FCB or Federal Cobra in CS...

Of course, it all depends on when you log in. If you're playing late EST like me, there generally isn't a lot of folks around in CS or FFA. I haven't been in AB too much since 3.0, so can't comment there, but from forum chatter, that's where most are hanging out, there or FCB to make money for upgrades.

I'd recommend Federal Combat Bond to start, as you'll only have to fight one pirate at a time. FFA can lead to multiple attacks at once, not something a new player wants to contend with. Practice in FCB. Until you get your ungraded Gimbal Pulse Laser (my first recommended upgrade) just keep at it, taking the free sidewinder until you have enough for the upgrade (and then some in case you have to pay insurance once you upgrade).

Basically, you need to kill about 10 pirates, go to station, sell your current pulse laser, equip the gimballed pulse laser, go back, kill ten more, and get your second gimballed pulse...

Once you're more familiar with flying/combat, give FFA a go, or Contested Space (watch the Anacondas - and if you watch the videos, you'll see the ins and outs of both sides - Go Empire, it's more one on one from my experience, go Fed, and it's easier targets, but more often multiple attackers)... FFA gives 300/kill plus the chance at random cargo worth up to just over 5k (but also brings greater danger - pick off the stragglers, stay out of the middle of the combat zone)

Hi AXIS, that's probably because we're a more (ahem) mature bunch who already have a sense of accomplishment and self worth without belittling internet strangers :p!

In less than 3 hours I can come liberate some canisters in asteroids for you and whoever else needs them. Totally up to you. I'll probably be on the non-griefing 79 server ;) (when you first run game before you hit multiplayer in upper left, server IP starts with 54 or 79)
I'll see if we can't liberate some alcohol and have ourselves a party!

Not you dude, I think we are all replying to another post ;-) The person that said it was unacceptable to loose stuff because of bugs..in an Alpha test... Where we find and log bugs.

I wonder what the hell the Star Citizen "alpha testers" are gonna be like! I'm gonna don an asbestos tracksuit before visiting those forums on Alpha release day!
