Broken Atmospheric Lighting

Is there anything else we can do? The issue tracker entry was created 1 month ago and quickly got enough votes.
Unfortunately the only thing we can do is to keep banging this drum, keep bumping this thread for visibility, and maybe organise a campaign on Reddit.
All we're looking for is an ack from FD that they'll fix it...
Or, at the very least, an explanation as to why they advertised a feature that never made it into the final product.

I just saw this post on Reddit which looks like another example of the trailer showing us something that doesn't exist in game: Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/q7jjn0/i_dont_think_ive_seen_an_atmosphere_this_thick_in/
This and the other pre-alpha shots that FDev showed off are what sold me on Odyssey, and what we have now is so damn disappointing. That and Cyberpunk really made me decide that even with companies that I thought were reliable/dependable, I can't trust what is shown to us. I'm hanging on a thread with this game and company. I voted in the issue tracker as well, just in case that gives the slightest chance of getting what we were originally shown.

Has anyone seen any atmosphere planets where stars are not visible during the day?
This was mentioned in a livestream (I think it was with Dr Ross) - if I remember correctly it was changed due to artistic reasons, it was felt that the faint stars would be a visible reminder that you’re on a tenuous atmosphere world.

"In-game" footage from Trailer used a rendering model and lighting that is far too advanced in development to release to us. It would probably be in an "Elite Dangerous: Funky Lights" expansion...

Can you see stars in your examples?

I can see stars in your examples.

I think that’s the point @Kestrel1 was trying to make.

In that case he didn't read his own link.

If I wanted to I could paint a few white dots into the reddit screenshot, the atmospheric effect would be unchanged. It's purely an artistic reason to display the stars.

The discussion I linked to specifically has to do with atmospheres in-game looking thinner than they did in marketing materials. Stars are only one part of that (see below). Photos like the one in the post I linked are what got many folks excited about Odyssey in the first place. There is a reason the marketing team went with a photo like that.

I disagree. The screenshots you posted clearly show deep space "bleeding through" the atmosphere much more than in the marketing material. Yes, stars are one aspect of that. But the color is as well. Notice how the blue sky you linked to has a darker hue.

The two skies look very different to me. Clearly I'm not the only one that thinks this.

This isn't the only case of Odyssey marketing material not matching up with reality. I agree it's not the worst offender by far. But given this thread is about atmospheric lighting I think it was an interesting contribution, that's all.

And yet the top voted comment to your link disagrees with you...

You're grasping at straws. Upvotes is not the same thing as truth. If that was the case I could argue that the post itself has 456 upvotes which is greater than the amount of people that upvoted the top comment.

The effect is clearly different. Whether or not that bothers you is a different story. I'm just going to quote myself from above to reiterate:

Is that the top voted comment that says:

Yes, you need to look for argon rich atmosphere

…and then everyone else in the thread saying no, you can always see stars through the atmosphere?

I don't know if you read it, but the stars thing was already adressed...

What, the post where you said that if you painted some stars onto the promo image then it’d look like the current game where we always see stars through the tenuous atmospheres?

In that case, the promo image wouldn’t look to have a very thick atmosphere, would it?

“I don't think i've seen an atmosphere this thick in odyssey (from the trailer)”

Nope.
