Broken Stellar Lighting

People generally dislike change. That's not something unique to this community.
Yes, but some traits/properties influence this. Older people struggle more with change than younger people. People further on the autism spectrum struggle more than NT people. And so on. And 'nostalgia sci-fi niche' communities tend to lean a bit more towards certain demographics than, say, Fortnite.

Bit some people are more prone to feel a change makes things worse than others.
That is true. For that reason tarring everyone with the same brush isn't fair on those who are open to change if it moves things forward, or at least sideways.

I find it interesting how the decision by the art department to move to adaptive lighting in 3.3 was initially met by great resistance. Quite a lot of people really didn't like the look of it because they thought that it destroyed the realism of the game, or that it juxtaposed against the skybox made it look overly "gamey". One of the biggest changes was the intensity of the starlight and the falloff in that intensity.

After 2 1/2 years of the adaptive lighting people have become so used to it, that now a change away from that is seen as a bad thing, even though it's more like it was originally it seems to me. This is a planet orbiting a few hundred Ls from a Class B star.

(I couldn't put the fully raised star in the picture because it's just too bright)
I remember manually cranking up the gamma when I was on planets close to a star, and then dialing down the gamma when on planets far away, to help create this effect to some extent. I have to squint on a sunny day here on Earth, and looking at photos from the moon it's all the more bright, so I never understood why planets looked "dark" at noon while a huge sun filled the sky.

I also do this on the night side of planets / moons where there is a full moon or parent planet overhead, as those ground surfaces should not be pitch black with a huge reflective light source in the sky.

I hope to live long enough to see the day where high-speed multi-source raytracing is the standard rather than a niche, because that will go a long way to fix these outlier lighting situations (not to mention reflections in the cockpit from sunbeams coming through the windows).

I finally got round to adding my vote and contribution.

Kind of annoying that the issue tracker only allows 4 images max, and doesn't allow you to edit your contribution for when you make a mistake.

For example, in my reproduction steps I referred to a system as being an M-Class star, when it was actually a B-Class star.

Why didn't I catch my mistake? Because the star colour was not being applied and so I didn't realise! 🙄

I can't vote for that, they are limited to 6... This issue tracking system is really annoying...
If you don't think it's top priority, don't vote for it. Confirmation is enough.
If you think it's top priority, vote for it rather than something else with lesser priority.
The issue tracking system really is annoying, but not for made up reasons.

In that case you simply don't understand the meaning of priority. 🤷‍♂️

;)
Or maybe i'm expecting too much from this game.

There are only 250 issues that you can vote for in Elite Dangerous.

Please take the time to add those Confirmations, fellow CMDRs, let’s increase that number 😁👍
It seemed to me that i had paid to play, not to have the right to be a volunteer quality checker at FDev... at least, not after the release.
Moreover, confirming them does not allow me to vote for them...

If we want the bugs fixed, we use the tools given us. It is what it is, and personally I’d like to play a bug-fixed version of Elite. If you want to complain about the state of the game, fine, but I always think of this line from the Apollo 13 film: “We're not going to go bouncing off the walls for ten minutes, 'cause we're just going to end up back here with the same problems!😁

You are correct that confirming the issues doesn’t allow you to vote for them - unless 9 other CMDRs do the same, then you can 👍

Bear in mind the the brightness of the star is false as you can look at it in your monitor and not fry your retinas. Even with HDR it wouldnt have a realistic brightness. They do what they can.

I am against these practices of relying on customers to finish their work. So no, i don't intend to invest my free time reporting bugs that are mostly obvious and should never have been in the release (or weren't even in the alpha).
If some people don't have a problem with that, i respect their work.

No, since i can't vote for more than 6 issues.

Look at a picture of the Sun. It won't burn your retinas but the image is still realistic. Colour and contrast are not just a matter of the amount of light.

Which would be completely unrelated.
since you say so.
