Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Kessel Run (31.10 - 15.11)

Second attempt, in hauler this time: 1:55:46...
I have lost 5 minutes due to interdictions ><, but still not as fast as Hanekura Shizuka ... can you tell me what is Heliotrope's max jump range?

Heliotrope's loadout for the Kessel Run had a max jump range of 35.13ly.

The problem with the DBX in racing generally isn't in jump range, but in scooping time; the maximum-sized fuel scoop for a DBX is a 4A, which is undersized for a 5A FSD. An experienced pilot can work around this somewhat. That said, I think the prediction that an Asp will take the top spot will likely hold.

While preparing for starting my attempt I noticed an error in the route I posted previously. Please disregard it until I correct it.

Edit: have fixed it, recalculted, and posted with step and cumulative distances. I'm going to use this myself shortly so don't intend to update it again.

Hey commander, nice avatar! We named our son Geraden :)

From the cover art of Stephen Donaldsons' book, one of the Mordant's Need series, where the character Adept Geraden came from.
Still trying to write the back story for the RP forum. Currently on my third attempt.
Got it straight in my head. Putting it into words is a different matter.
Seriously considering doing a short-story writing course.

Sorry for going OT.

Thx for updating :)
I used your first version of the route and it worked well, times will follow when I'm done with compressing those 32GB of video :D
The new version seems to equal Raiko's jump-optimized route which might even work better with that ~35ly jump range of the hauler.

I'm not sure if A grade thrusters and pwr distro can outweigh the loss in jump range they cause. There are a few legs where the jump range might matter.

Btw: Should we (not) post our times here in the forum? I'm not sure if it was that way in the "original" BBRs and don't know how it's handled here.

I decided against trying the run today in my regulation Sidewinder as I couldn't manage to allocate 4 hours to it this evening and instead made the run with my [non-regulation] Cobra, the 'Null Geodesic'. In hindsight, this was the wrong call. My Cobra completed the course using the same route as my Asp in 79 jumps, a total of 1748LY. The difference in times was not so great as I had anticipated; despite 23 extra jumps the time difference was close to 12 minutes (although I did not have to fend off any interdictions this time). That suggests I might have managed a time close to 3 hours in the regulation Sidewinder.
November is busy for me so I am not going to have a chance to make any further attempts. Thanks very much Stern Winter for staging the race! Good luck everyone!

Oh I know. Terrific books. I hasten to add that we did not name our daughter Terisa :)

Just as well. In my continuation of Geradens story into the Elite universe, the Lady Terisa of Morgan, Geradens wife, dies in childbirth.
Geraden then uses the mirror he created to summon the champion, to leave Mordant.

Spot the noob to all this. Forgot to log 2nd station in my run. Doh! Too late to do over for today.

If possible, set up something like Shadowplay or Raptr to record your gameplay, then if you ever forget to press F10 (we've all done it) you can grab that screenshot later from your recording.

It's nice to be able to watch back afterwards as well, to see where you did well and where you went wrong, or to relive spectacular and explosive endings to your races.

Race Documentation For Asp Explorer Bifrost Submitted

This was really meant to be a trial run, but as I got further into the jumps, I could see that the time could be something worth submitting. A total of 1545.65Ly was travelled over ~52 jumps. Unscoopables showed up, so had to replot twice. No interdictions and no landing permission denied encountered during the run, so conditions were perfect. Only screw ups found, happened between joystick and chair.

Run details has been sent to Stern Winter.

Personally, I'm very happy with the result, that is until someone beats my time :)

PS: Stern Winter, Thank you very much for organizing this race.

Due to some calculation errors my first run was 1705.4 LY in 66 jumps.

Planning my next load-out and run as I type. :)

I did a second run in my regulation Cobra, and improved on my first attempt, but still a long way off being a competitive time. Apparently, I still need to learn how to fly.

Never the less, not deterred from having fun, I'll make a second entry for next weekends fun and games.

And crash, from what I've been able to tell from the people who are good at this. ;) I'm still trying to figure this part out.

Awesome attitude!

Phew, just finished my first attempt. Must admit I'm reasonably pleased with it despite two interdictions and a false start. Will be submitting my screenshots to the adjudictaors in a little while (once my hands have stopped shaking ... is it just me or is this race pretty intense?).

In the meantime, here's the beauty shot. You'll notice my ship is almost indistinguishable from Cmdr furrycat's. For future reference mine is the one with the lights turned on :)

Some very respectable times in Open.

Newcomer, CMDR Reginald Meesko streaks ahead of the pack with a blistering 1:24:10.

Hot on his heels are CMDRs Kliggson, Macros Black and Cookiehole, the latter proving the humble Hauler a ship to be reckoned with.

Following is a group made up of CMDRs Edelgard von Rhein, Flash Gordon, Hanekura Shizuka, Kepasa Bongo, Eesai and Knils Nodantasee, spaced out by approximately 3 minutes each. The notable exceptions are CMDRs Kepasa Bongo and Eesai, who chose to fly in a wing, which is why they are tied in 6th place for the Asp.

Bringing up the rear is CMDR Knils Nodantasees 2nd entry, his Sidewinder Iroboke almost an hour later.

No times have been submitted for the regulation classes yet.

Very well done, CMDRs. I'm loking forward to your next attempts, as well as the runs of the remaining Commanders.

Fly unsafe.

Not at all, CMDR.There's still plenty of time for racing.
You didn't state a time in your mail, so since you had winged up with CMDR Kepasa Bongo, I assumed your time to be the same as his.

Okay I'll give this a go... what could possibly go wrong?

Your responce was kind! I think i have messed-up with my roadbook, but this attempt with a sidewinder wasn't so boaring ^^.

Now i want to try with another ship:

Open Unlimited
Hauler

The fastest Sidey time yet. ;)
Your new ship is noted.

Well then, I hereby officially declare my intent to race. I'll try it in Open Unlimited first; maybe some attempts in the other classes will follow.

Never being patient enough for those thinking-requirering things like finding a good route, I'm glad that some people here did post their routes. That allows me to shamelessly be lazy and use Porina's route, muahahaha!
I don't think the beauty-shots of my ship will be beautiful, but well, this is a race and sacrifices in hull and module health will have to be made :D

Yes, you'll make a sacrifice at every docking :D

Hello, Im changing my cobra entry to be the reg cobra entry and entering another entry in the open class.

Its a nice long enjoyable course ( curse you Kessel Legacy! ) well done Stern Winters, looking forward to chipping away at the time.
thanks for hosting it Stern, will send you a mail with my links. not sure it can be done in under 12 parsecs. ;)

Great time in your new ship, CMDR. Your Cobra has been moved to the regulation class.

I think officially it was "if you feel like it" but I always preferred the mystery of not knowing, personally :p

What you post in the forum is your own business, as long as your timed attempts reach me by mail :)

A very respectable Asp-time. I think you would do well in the sidey. I did not see an e-mail with your Cobra details.

Reg. Cobra Time Submitted for The Macro Enigma

I'm much happier with tonight's run than yesterday's: 2:02:25.

I'm still confident that someone more skilled (and luckier) than me will crush that by a good 5 minutes. Good luck to whoever you are!

But next up for me is some Reg. Sidey crawling.
