Buckyball Run 9: Move 'em out, let it roll!

Errr, you have watched Alot's video of his A* run in a T7, haven't you? :D

Yes, I enjoyed it very much :)
I've actually managed to arrive with over 50% hull and only about 5 FSD fails, a broken cargo hatch and nearly broken Sensors and Power Distro. That makes me wanting to try again, not that happy with the time yet.
Maybe stopping every few jumps to let the ship cool down a bit is actually faster than having the FSD fail multiple times. (I won't install any heat sinks though, that'd make it boring) :D

I still challenge any of you to do a 1% hull, no shield run like my hauler run was :D

1% is difficult.

EDIT: The T7 is surprisingly fun to fly. Much more nimble than you would expect from a ship this big and heavy. I find the drift better controllable than in the Asp and especially low level flying over the surface is great!

Not recommended: Having fun while flying over a planet surface without shields.

If the heat has got to the point where your FSD is damaged, your heatsinks have probably already malfunctioned enough times for you to have none left (I found on my first A* run that heatsinks are actually very sensitive to heat damage!). :)

ElectricZ? Either the Haulers have warped space and time in a new way, or something's wrong with the Hauler (Open) board. At the risk of jeopardising my 7th-place position on that board...8th-place seems to be missing.

Fortunately it's just the number 8 that's missing, not the position. Gonna have to chalk it up to the "mysterious station malfunctions" that have been sweeping through the galaxy. Yeah, that's the ticket...

@EZ another bout of percussive maintenance to the BBR supercomputer when next you update... I would request a star next to the upcoming dot for my (hopfully successful) run. I ran the SagA* last year under my original and over-long CMDR 'Lucky' Jack Tripper. This was back in my T6 days, ahh the memories! I'm one and the same for the record books if possible.

Does BRC A* Challenge count for getting a star on the dot list? Because I did that, albeit at a leisurely pace while dropping off a consignment of Hutton Mugs

Sadly, though the A* Challenge is a continuation of the Buckyball A*, the Star-Dot was awarded only those who officially completed the BBRA*. You see, the A* Challenge Star-Dot would be blue and the BBR's Big Board only shows shades of orange and yellow.

I did!

Didn't quite make it though. :(

Pssst, if you need any fuel limpets en-route just give me a shout! But don't tell Bucky 'cos he says we're not allowed.

Signing in for the first time:

- CMDR name: Slo'Mo
- Ship name: Big Bird
- Ship Type: DB-Explorer
- Race Class: Unlimited / Open
- Personal Sci-Fi hero: Han Solo

A return run to HIP 78136 with the Eagle ran exactly the same time as my race time. It included an Emergency Stop, a "Main Tank Empty" warning, a switch to economical to attempt a jump to a scoopable star, *success!*, return to regularly scheduled flight, and a crash docking that knocked the Origami Egret down to 3% hull. So I could have been faster on the initial run had I applied some of the stuff I have learned.

Long-winded way to say I think I'm improving and I feel good about it.:)

(You guys probably don't need to know any of this but I am still stoked about it and my partner and the 3 year old don't quite understand what I'm excited about. The 3 year old doesn't care he just likes to go fast. She just gives me one eyebrow and says "go team" and wanders off probably wondering what she got into .)

Then I bought an Asp Scout because I really want to like it based on one vid of canyon drifting. This may be another lesson I need to learn through insurance... experience... both.:p

I won't have time for another run as work really doesn't get racing. Thanks everyone for making this possible and for the helpful and enthusiastic racers of all speeds and classes. Super fun! 4/4 pips, will race again (as time and qualifications permit ;))!

When I finished my first run yesterday I realised that the Obsidian station was completely out of coffee! No wonder the station was controlled by pirates, no one else would be able to control a group of under-caffeinated pilots.
So I knew I had to deliever them as much coffee as possible, so I grabbed my armoured freighter python and made another run but this time with 200 tons of coffee.

Sadly I lost 6t of coffee due to certain "roasting" techniques involving suns.
Anyway, now you can at least enjoy a nice cup o' joe after you run.

Buckyballing: not just for Asps and Haulers!

Big news on the Big Board. Let's get right to Open Unlimited. With 8 times posted from seven new users, there has been a tremendous upset! CMDR ElectricZ, a favorite contender going back to Buckyball 1 in 3300, took FIRST PLACE* beating out all comers in a wide variety of ships. When asked about this momentous achievement, CMDR ElectricZ commented, "Denton Patreus can still suck it!"

Well done, ElectricZ!

And what of those other ships? A veritable menagerie of ship types passed through Obsidian's slot, all first time Buckyballers, some setting the record for their class in the run across the Bubble. CMDR Mystic Moose's Diamondback Explorer The Prince of Flies made its debut at 20th, Just barely edging out Alex1302's Asp Zephyr. CMDR Slo'Mo's DB-X The Other Big Bird slipped in not too far behind at 25th a few lengths ahead of CMDR Aitken's Asp Oxen Craig. Setting the record for the Imperial Eagle, CMDR AntiDisco brought the Dark Comet in at 27th ahead Felix Jefferson's standard Eagle Brandestoc. Finally, CMDR Zenni ran the race's first Python, and to keep the Python's legendarily long jump range from ruining the race for everyone, Zenni loaded the aptly named Emergency Coffee Transport with some much needed coffee (194 tons, with six lost to what Zenny referred to as a "solar roasting" process) to deliver to Obsidian Orbital. What a sport, Zenny! Thanks for the Joe. There's an end-of-race-party coming up on Saturday, and There Will be Hangovers.

The sole runner in Solo Unlimited saw CMDR Tayo also setting a record in his Eagle Origami Egret coming in just a few seconds behind Weatherwax's Conda and ahead of a pair of Asps. Not bad for the little bird, Tayo! Your little co-pilot should be proud!

In the Open Hauler Challenge there was another shakeup. Cookiehole seems to be intent on seeing his name at the top of several boards and with some grit and determination (and a generous serving of Hauler Flambe') just barely pushed the Tin Can past Alot's Explodes on Contact. The three-time Buckyball champion has been conspicuously absent the past few days but still has a couple days to respond. And, Cookiehole, if Alot doesn't want to come out to play, Kligg's looking awful lonely up at the top of Unlimited Solo. Just a thought. ;)

In addition to Cookiehole's lead-snatching run, CMDR Heronymus made the leap from Unlimited to Hauler Class and posted a respectable run in the Flirt'in with Diasaster just three minutes shy of first place. Like all the categories, just a little more oomph mixed with a dash of luck could make all the difference.

Finally in Hauler Open, Bucky would like to welcome back CMDR Stern Winter who made his debut in the Buckyball A*, bringing the Yellow Snow in at 10th place on the Big Board. Welcome back, Winter!

No movement in Hauler Solo. Maybe because Cookiehole is already in first place there? Hmm sure seems like an easy way for someone else to grab a championship dot...

Speaking of dots: CMDRs Mystic Moose, alex1302, Slo'Mo, Aitken, AntiDisco, Felix Jefferson? Congratulations on completing your first Buckyball Run. Bask in the glow of the dot next to your name and know it can never be taken away from you... unless the Big Board spazzes out and they all fall out again. Sheesh, what a mess that was.

Tune in tomorrow for the next day's results! Less than 72 hours to go!
