So what do you guys do when you start feeling like this is silly and pointless and going to take bloody forever?

I'm considering heavy drinking.
Although this isn't so bad, I'm averaging 1400 light-years an hour (including a 45 minutes hiatus because my computer crashed for some reason). Only 17000 light-years left! I may actually beat Radio Sidewinder's time!![]()
I listen to podcasts and a LOT of music, chattered with a mate, who really has an attention problem, wanting to tell me everything about how amazing the Euro Truck Sim demo is or how they did some cool thing in the Hawken Mecha FPS. That may be annoying normally, but during exploring it's a nice distraction. So what do you guys do when you start feeling like this is silly and pointless and going to take bloody forever?

Also a break or two costs time maybe, but keeps ya goin'.
And if you're really bored you can attempt reading a book while scooping. So far I've only crashed into 2 suns because of that, but your mileage may very much vary...![]()

I'm all caught up on my series and haven't found any new ones.
Did, uh... Did anyone hear something then? Sounded like scratching I think...<eldritch noises>
On another note, I had the pleasure of running into CMDR Passionfruit on the last leg of his trip home, on comms during his triumphant touchdown of the '85 edition Cobra ?SYNTAX ERROR in civilized space. The goal was to wing up, but because we were on opposite sides of this big sphere called Earth ED's instancing kept us from seeing one another. The important thing is that a Buckyballer has made it home after a long, arduous journey, and the Shotgun Shine is open for business, serving food and drinks to celebrate his triumphant return!
And seeing as how CMDR Henry Passionfruit divulged that his first page of cartographic data alone netted him ONE MILLION CREDITS, it looks like Henry is buying. Cheers, mate!(And seriously, welcome back! Bucky salutes you! o7)
If you're not listening to Radio Sidewinder, might I suggest looking up "Welcome to Nightvale"
Where are my pants?
I must have been wearing them when I got here; they had my Credit chip in them. I've bought rounds of Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters for the bar, the entire crew of the 'Shotgun Shine', the local station, the local system, plus one or two other systems I flew through on the way here.
Well thats what I recall anyway. Maybe my flight recorder has some clues.

Nope, no clues there. Thanks to ElectricZ for the escort home, even if our Wing co-location system was playing up. I think I left the charger for that back at Sag A*, which means I will have to go back out and get it; those things cost a fortune with those silly special plugs mutter mutter mutter. Year 3301 and we still don't have universal DC connectors.
Still, no pants. Could anyone who finds them please return them to the "?SYNTAX ERROR". No, wait, return them to the bar of the " Shotgun Shine ". Thats where I am, and I can hardly go back to my ship with no pants.
My copilot would be horrified.

It took 23 hours, 31 minutes and 30 seconds. All in a day's work indeed. And I'm not even sorry for all those terrible puns.
You know, talking about ST V remindes me. I was looking up Voyager's route home (Thinking about retracing it after I can get myself a 'conda) and noticed they went around the core when it would have been faster for them to go through it. Then I remembered that alien/god/thing from V...

Heh, i've played Euro Truck 2, it's not bad. BUt you kinda need a headtracker and wheel for it to really work.
Whoa where'd you get Voyager's route? I was sorta looking for it somewhat but I never really delved into researching it.
Also yeah maybe they went around the core cuz Voyager was already falling to pieces ("Year of Hell") and going through a gravimetrically intense area might really tear them apartAnd oh, did anyone notice that Harry Kim didn't make it home to Sol? The one that made it home was not the one that left with them
Your friend is right. Euro Truck is an unexpectedly addictive game. I'm still playing it on and off even now. I've even heard of people hitting max level (lvl 170) with bazillions of dollars still continuing to play it.
Not really. You can use mouse for steering, so you save 200 to 300 bucks on a wheel. Headtracking can be substituted with the left/center/right view keys. Not too bad. Using TrackIR of course makes it much easier but you don't really need headtracking. Just like ED doesn't really need it too... it just works better with, but isn't crippled without.
Maybe it's becuase I actually drive trucks professionally, limited to a kb+mouse to control just feels wrong to me. Though I'm also one of those people who bougth an X-55 HOTAS to play Elite with....

Welcome home, CMDR! o7
I just woke up from a 3 day coma, also missing my pants. 1/2 of my urine containers have also been emptied, mysteriously. No clues, no nuthin'.
So, uh, this is a bit awkward heheh, but after my run in with the black hole at the centre of the galaxy I see that I'm not on the leader board. Not in pre-flight or finished or anything. I'm a tiny bit concerned, just a tad, that I fell off the Galaxy and don't exist in the physical Universe anymore, most uncharacteristic of me heheh. In, through and beyond, as someone once said. If someone could throw me a metaphysical rope or something so I could confirm or even get back to actual real reality where things like me are real that would be cool, but no biggie. Get a load of those noobs falling into Sagittarius A*, eh?
Anybody?
