So what do you guys do when you start feeling like this is silly and pointless and going to take bloody forever?

I'm considering heavy drinking.

Although this isn't so bad, I'm averaging 1400 light-years an hour (including a 45 minutes hiatus because my computer crashed for some reason). Only 17000 light-years left! I may actually beat Radio Sidewinder's time! :p

yea i can't drink, that whole open bottles thing... and i just got under 20k to go... after three days

So, uh, this is a bit awkward heheh, but after my run in with the black hole at the centre of the galaxy I see that I'm not on the leader board. Not in pre-flight or finished or anything. I'm a tiny bit concerned, just a tad, that I fell off the Galaxy and don't exist in the physical Universe anymore, most uncharacteristic of me heheh. In, through and beyond, as someone once said. If someone could throw me a metaphysical rope or something so I could confirm or even get back to actual real reality where things like me are real that would be cool, but no biggie. Get a load of those noobs falling into Sagittarius A*, eh?

Anybody?

I listen to podcasts and a LOT of music, chattered with a mate, who really has an attention problem, wanting to tell me everything about how amazing the Euro Truck Sim demo is or how they did some cool thing in the Hawken Mecha FPS. That may be annoying normally, but during exploring it's a nice distraction.
Also a break or two costs time maybe, but keeps ya goin'.
And if you're really bored you can attempt reading a book while scooping. So far I've only crashed into 2 suns because of that, but your mileage may very much vary...;)

Heh, i've played Euro Truck 2, it's not bad. BUt you kinda need a headtracker and wheel for it to really work. If I had a book, i'd listen to that. But I'm all caught up on my series and haven't found any new ones. I drive a truck for a living so auidible is my friend. And breaks happen, work and sleep kinda demand it...

there are now 20.000 ly behind me and i am certain i will dump my asp into sadge. this has been a hell of a ride so far and i salute anyone who completed it.

On another note, I had the pleasure of running into CMDR Passionfruit on the last leg of his trip home, on comms during his triumphant touchdown of the '85 edition Cobra ?SYNTAX ERROR in civilized space. The goal was to wing up, but because we were on opposite sides of this big sphere called Earth ED's instancing kept us from seeing one another. The important thing is that a Buckyballer has made it home after a long, arduous journey, and the Shotgun Shine is open for business, serving food and drinks to celebrate his triumphant return!

And seeing as how CMDR Henry Passionfruit divulged that his first page of cartographic data alone netted him ONE MILLION CREDITS, it looks like Henry is buying. Cheers, mate! :D (And seriously, welcome back! Bucky salutes you! o7)

Where are my pants?

I must have been wearing them when I got here; they had my Credit chip in them. I've bought rounds of Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters for the bar, the entire crew of the 'Shotgun Shine', the local station, the local system, plus one or two other systems I flew through on the way here.

Well thats what I recall anyway. Maybe my flight recorder has some clues.

Nope, no clues there. Thanks to ElectricZ for the escort home, even if our Wing co-location system was playing up. I think I left the charger for that back at Sag A*, which means I will have to go back out and get it; those things cost a fortune with those silly special plugs mutter mutter mutter. Year 3301 and we still don't have universal DC connectors.

Still, no pants. Could anyone who finds them please return them to the "?SYNTAX ERROR". No, wait, return them to the bar of the " Shotgun Shine ". Thats where I am, and I can hardly go back to my ship with no pants.

My copilot would be horrified.

Welcome home, CMDR! o7

I just woke up from a 3 day coma, also missing my pants. 1/2 of my urine containers have also been emptied, mysteriously. No clues, no nuthin'.

I've fashioned some ramshackle shorts out of bio-degradable, freeze-dried, noodle containers.

So there's this pair of jeans out here floating around LYSORB SS-I A64-O, about 7.3K ly from Sol. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that would you?

Greetings. A funny thing happened today on my way to Sadge.

So here I am, waiting for the FSD to charge up for the last jump.

Oh yes.

AAALOOOT!

In actuality, Alot simply was already there and decided to greet me when I got there for the first BBRA* Sidewinder finisher!

Actually, that reminds me of a joke. So, an Anaconda, a Sidewinder and a Supermassive Black Hole fly into a system. What happens?
Alot of puns. You could almost say it's an unholey amount.
Yep, that's right: The Sidewinder Undesided (obligatory rimshot) has now officially completed the Buckyball Run A*. Oh, and by the way? Lady Luck really was riding shotgun. To put this into perspective:
My Sidewinder has a 2T Fuel Tank and a 2A FSD. This allows for two, maybe three good jumps if they're a bit short. It has a maximum jump range of 21.30 - 21.93 Ly.
This means that any two unscoopable stars immediately after one another would require a replot.

I did not have to replot once during the final 19 thousand light years. That's 19 1k light year plots that featured a scoopable star at least every other jump, all the way to Sadge. Lady Luck, thank ye kindly. I didn't even lose very much time plotting in the Core.

sVUXImW.jpg
It took 23 hours, 31 minutes and 30 seconds. All in a day's work indeed. And I'm not even sorry for all those terrible puns.

You know, talking about ST V remindes me. I was looking up Voyager's route home (Thinking about retracing it after I can get myself a 'conda) and noticed they went around the core when it would have been faster for them to go through it. Then I remembered that alien/god/thing from V...

Whoa where'd you get Voyager's route? I was sorta looking for it somewhat but I never really delved into researching it.

Also yeah maybe they went around the core cuz Voyager was already falling to pieces ("Year of Hell") and going through a gravimetrically intense area might really tear them apart :) And oh, did anyone notice that Harry Kim didn't make it home to Sol? The one that made it home was not the one that left with them :p

Your friend is right. Euro Truck is an unexpectedly addictive game. I'm still playing it on and off even now. I've even heard of people hitting max level (lvl 170) with bazillions of dollars still continuing to play it.

Heh, i've played Euro Truck 2, it's not bad. BUt you kinda need a headtracker and wheel for it to really work.

Not really. You can use mouse for steering, so you save 200 to 300 bucks on a wheel. Headtracking can be substituted with the left/center/right view keys. Not too bad. Using TrackIR of course makes it much easier but you don't really need headtracking. Just like ED doesn't really need it too... it just works better with, but isn't crippled without.

Google; https://www.google.com/search?q=voy...&ei=6e1TVabhG4GKyASq6IC4Bg&sqi=2&ved=0CCkQsAQ

though there's two different versions, the route they took that got erased via time travel shenagianans and then the one where they used the borg's transwarp network. It's too bad they didn't know about the wormhole though, that could have saved them a ton of time. And the Year of Hell was erased. They went around that sector.

Maybe it's becuase I actually drive trucks professionally, limited to a kb+mouse to control just feels wrong to me. Though I'm also one of those people who bougth an X-55 HOTAS to play Elite with....

OOoOo cool thanks.. will have to do more research on it... for my next trip "out there".

Hahah ok I was coming from the perspective of "you don't need fancy gear to play games" point of view. Wheels and headtracking and Rifts make the experience better but the game isn't crippled without them. The day they invent a motion suit for us to play FPSes in, will be the day someone will say "playing FPSes with a mouse and keyboard doesn't feel right" :)

Personally though.. I actually had the Saitek X52 Pro ordered for ED. Then when they announced they're pulling Offline mode, I cancelled the order. I have never owned a HOTAS since late 1990s when my Thrustmaster set broke and I threw it all away, and ED was the only game to make me go get a HOTAS again... except they messed up :p

So yeah I'm playing ED with a normal Thrustmaster stick with a slider for throttle. That works well enough for a no-offline-mode ED :p Heck the past few weeks I've never needed to turn TrackIR on even... it's just jump-jump-jump-scoop....trying to get home to Sol. No headtracking required at all.

Well, Michey you're right. You're not on the leaderboard. Since Bucky never makes mistakes, I guess that means you didn't run it after all. I'm gonna have to ask you to send that bumper sticker back when you get it, unless of course you complete the run.

Oh wait a minute. (slaps side of leaderboard) There's your entry. The Big Board sometimes gets stuck. See, you're right there, right above Tuna Mage... oooo. Tuna. Yeah, bad news. Hate for you to find out like this but...

Update to follow!

13 000 light-years to go! I'm slowly going back toward the galactic disk as I drifted slightly higher than expecter over the plane.
