Building a weir (and flowing water in general)

I'm trying to build a reasonable looking weir... far right of the first image:

and from the other angle:

Anyone got a link to a good example i can study?

Well, your weir looks quite good. What is it you're trying to do different?

There's a huge dam in a ride called "Fire Watch", and it blows up during the ride, unleashing a huge torrent that roars down a valley and puts the fire out.

Wow. Thanks for that the Fire Ride is inspiring.
I guess my challenge is getting the water over the hump between high and low levels, without it looking to much like it's going uphill.
I'll have a few tries and upload the outcomes.

Yeah, it's just insane the amount of triggered gizmos in that. Quite a work of art.

Yeah, that's the challenge. PC isn't really suited to making overflow dams. The only method I've come up with that looks halfway good is to cover the intervening strip of high ground with boulders and water jets, the boulders providing a logical reason for the water jets to be splashing higher than the upper water level.

But this only works for relatively narrow streams. It's an illusion that fails the bigger you make it. So for wider dams, the best I've been able to come up with is putting spillway pipes up high, so the water seems to go through the dam just below the crest.

Yeah that's what I figured. I'll give that a try.

B E A utiful!!!

thank you!

Woohoo! That's how to do it! Be sure to post up a tutorial on this subject!

thanks mate!
i thought someone might ask for a video, so i recorded the session building those weirs (just the weirs, sadly i didn't record the mill building, wish i had now...).

my talented daughter will edit the videos and i'll post a link when ready.
i think i'll make a short series, since i cannot find much online about using flowing water, so maybe others are interested.

This looks amazing. The atmosphere is beautiful. Can't wait to see more [happy]

So beautiful looking. Is this going to be a part of a park? I love the last shot! [heart]

Thanks again, appreciate the comments!

Yes, there's a park taking shape slowly here. The area you're seeing will be part of a Manor Farm, which links to a medieval town, that links to a city and docks, where, of course, there be pirates...

that video i promised is almost ready - tomorrow maybe. meantime here's another attempt...

(beaver dam)

Nifty. Can't wait for the video.

You might want to add some of the driftwood pieces and dead trees to the beaver dam. At least where I live, they're tangles of dead branches with little or no greenery.
