Buying another computer to play this game

Well... sure, but my AMD 6800 gfx card and Ryzen 7 5800X cpu run it great in all situations (and by great, I mean never below 60FPS - which is all I need as I'm on a 60Hz monitor. I think it would likely do 90 FPS too if I wanted to do VR)

So, yes, some set ups are dying for some reason FD can't figure out, and some systems just seem to have gotten lucky.
So what you said is right, the code has some kind of horrible mess going on, but it can work in some weirdly nebulous set of circumstances

(all above info is based on update 7.0, not played since)
It's not that the different users' PCs have the problem, it simply depends where you go. If you go to the right places, you won't see any significant problems. Many settlements work fine, but some others are terrible. My group all have high end PCs. We all get the same problems in the same places to the point that the game is completely unplayable for a minute or so until it settles down, then it becomes acceptable, but not good. Other places we go work well for all in the group.

Also, it's not just the graphics that's borked. We have to spend a disproportionate amount of time logging and relogging to be able to see each other. In a group of three, one or two players can see only one other player, while one of the group can see all three. Three players jump on the same ship to go to a mission, only to find that one is back at the station as soon as the ship tries to jump. Mid flight, there are frequently messages saying somebody has disembarked when the two passengers can see that they're still on the ship, though the pilot sees them teleport to the ground, then back again. During a jump, one player will often end up in the blue tunnel of death. There are many other problems like that, which are really annoying. It's happened so often, that it has become part of the game. We know the consequences of each type of problem, so we know who has to log and whether to go all the way to desktop or only back to the menu.

I would say that in a two hour session, I have to log about 6 times, and I have to get the shuttle back to the station at least once after I got kicked out of the pilot's instance. Even when we're in the same instance and can see each other, it's pretty common when looting a base that one or two players can see an object (say optical lens), but it's invisible to the third player.

I don't mean this to be a general moaning situation, but it does show the faulty programming, which may be contributing to the frame rate issue. What happens within the graphics when an object or player is there but can't be seen? Is it spending a lot of resources repeatedly trying to render them without success? What else is missing that you wouldn't know because you can't see it?

The issue isn't your computer, it's that you're left-handed.
You gain 110 FPS when you play right-handed.

Network stuff is (generally) not in the same area as rendering optimisation.

Can you tell me one of these places that causes everyone's machine to slow down? I'd like to test it.

PROBLEM RESOLVED!!!

I replaced the eight year old Corsair H80i CPU cooling system with the H80i v2. It flew across the Atlantic this week from a shop in Kent, England leaving Heathrow to the UPS hub in Louisville, KY...15 miles from my house. My CPU temp previously running at 79-99C now idles at 39C and goes to 45C running ED and 49C with EDO both adding Google Chrome, the Frontier Forum and an ED YouTube video! The RAM using only 8.2 GB.

Hanging out at Robigo Mines for 30 min ED FPS is a solid 99-100. Same time with EDO is doing 68-76 FPS which is usable.

Notes: An Intel 17-3930k protects itself with extreme temperatures. Nor was it a perfect fit installing the v2 pump using the mount of the V1 and the power cables were different. After cleaning all of the other tower fans the PC runs so quiet that I don't notice that it is on. Hearing the fans in the future will signal time for another cleaning.

Andro got me looking at my Corsair cooling system. WR3ND described a cooler that wasn't working. Look up their posts on this thread. Thanks guys. They helped to resolve a problem. My first fan sending air to the radiator put a paste of dogs and human skin with natural oils blocking the flow through the radiator then sealing it up. Ever wonder where 'dust' comes from? My second fan past the radiator was just blowing around air.

And I apologize to Frontier with my posts thinking it was partly their problem trying to figure it out. But they don't talk to us and a release of EDO when the problem started didn't help. Sorry. So some players who possibly love the game as much me came together and found a solution.

Then an eight year old PC build can still play ED and EDO. As for players having the latest greatest computers with poor frame rates? Frontier's work is certainly not done. Maybe other players will help to figure it out.

Regards
