Calling all Federation Commanders - We are at War with the Empire

And if Liaedin were to have a station flipped, it would analogous to breaking up Ukrain into a Western-leaning Kiev-controlled Ukrain and a Eastern-leaning Ukraine.....a messy situation that neither East nor West wants to see. And just as it is unthinkable to think of a divided Ukraine or Germany, it's untenable to allow a station to flip (much less a complete takeover, which Bloodhawk mentioned is most likely IMPOSSIBLE because FD probably locked the system (like with Sol). Why risk so much effort, only for FD to confirm that the system is locked and cannot be flipped?

Regarding the CG, it is extremely interesting that FD decided to do this in Volungu. I am very keen to see where FD is going to take this story. Will PP Volungu merely be squashed? What will happen after you complete tier 1 and above? Will there be followup CG like in Lugh, or will FD move on?

Yeah. I'm interested to see how this goes as well.
Look... I totally understand that having an Empire system close to the starter systems is a good thing for the game. I'd rather have new players either get to choose a starting location closer to the Empire or the Alliance.
Right now the in-game narrative the FDev is playing this CG to is that this current conflict in Volungu is the result of hostile actions taken by the Imperial faction headquartered in Liaedin. Who knows... maybe that is exactly how the background programming logic initiated the state of war. Personally I've done very little direct action in the Liaedin system on behalf of the Federation.
How would I like to see this worked out? I'd like a Federation presence in Liaedin. Flipping a single station to the Federation while maintaining Imperial control over the system as a whole is not really that big a deal. Maybe even a community goal to have a new station built. You have to remember that there are Federation-friendly players who played Frontier: Elite 2 for whom the system, and its in-game history, still hold meaning.
At the very least I'm hoping that we get a new station in the neighboring Volungu system. Right now we've just got the two unsanctioned outposts.

Agreed. As CMDR Swift Arrow mentioned earlier, Liaedin could be seen as an Imperial embassy in Federation space, and that is perfectly fine (from a game point of view) but they do not need the whole system for that. The Feds should have a station as well, especially if the factions are indeed locked, as several people seem to believe. (Incidentally, do the Feds have any systems this far into empire space?)

Operation Blossom Update - 27/4/15

Respected Federation Commanders,

This mornings influence report is in and it brings good news. After the crushing response from the Empire where we lost nearly 10 points in the influence ratings in Liaedin, yesterday's activities showed that we have risen by 3%.

This can only mean one thing, the Federation has risen to this challenge and has countered the Empire operation in Liaedin. To achieve a 3% increase whilst at the same time countering the Imperial efforts and running their blockades is a huge achievement.

A huge achievement which has only been possible due to your amazing dedication and hard work displayed yesterday on this mission. I offer my deepest thanks and respects to all those brave Federation commanders who have rallied to this cause.

We cannot rest though commanders, this is only the beginning. The next stage of this conflict has now started with the release of an official community goal in Volungu known as "In Defense of Volungu".

For those Federation commanders with the means to fight, I urge you to participate in this community goal. It is crucial to the long term goal of this operation that we succeed here and complete this community goal as soon as we can.

If you cannot partake in this goal then your efforts to increase the Crimson Fortune Company's influence in Liaedin are still very much welcomed and I would ask you to continue with those duties.

Fight on brave Federation Commanders, your efforts are succeeding but they will only infuriate the Imperials and force them to send in more troops.

God speed and good luck to you all.

I've been fighting for both sides.

Personally, I think Volungu should remain in Federation hands, but I was so disappointed in the actions, or rather inaction, of my fellow CMDRs fighting for the Federation that I had to switch sides and punish a few of them for their abject incompetence. My tolerance for CMDRs who ignore grievous threats in order to pursue paltry combat bonds is quite low.

CMDR's are needed in Volungu. only 168/6 of us are involved. we need more.

Time to make a stand Commanders. First Volungu, where next? Liaedin can not be allowed to be used as a launching pad for Imperial expansion into Federation space. Join us, push the Patron's Principles out of Volungu!

To all Federation commanders -

Good day to you. My name is CMDR Bloodhawk and I lead a Federation outfit called the Merchant Marines. It's one of the biggest Fed groups in-game right now and we were working on Op. Blossom prior to negotiating a non-aggression pact with the East India Company.

I see that there are some of you who call that surrender. I must take exception to this. The meta-game truth is that Liaedin is likely locked, at least until 1.3. The reason for that is its status is part of lore, as a piece of a bigger Federation-Empire peace treaty. Liaedin is unlikely to flip, regardless of influence, until FD decides the Federation and Empire is to go into full-frontal war. Notice that no faction is war critical despite the HUGE influence shift. Furthermore, all empire groups had caught on to Op. Blossom, even knowing it by name, dramatically reducing its chance of success.

Why the need for a peace treaty if the underlying logic behind it is that aggression in the system would lead to nothing and that the system is locked? If that is the case then there is no reason to sign a treaty by either side.

I believe sincerely and absolutely that the peace negotiation was big win for the Federation. We allow the empire to keep Liaedin, but have neutered its significance completely - if it can't be used as a platform for expansion, what use is it? Additionally, we agreed that the factional standings in Liaedin would be set at non-expandable levels, so Patron's Principles couldn't expand even if some rogue commanders tried.

How do you guarantee setting the faction standings to "non-expandable levels"? That would require FDev to hard-code them. We, the player base, should have no influence on FDev in regards to such a decision.

Furthermore, we agreed that Crimson would have a significant influence level in Liaedin as the second-most influential faction, so that we could re-activate Blossom if the need arose. This is a HUGE win for us, one which was made possible by brave commanders carrying out Blossom. We have been monitoring the situation post-treaty and are satisfied that this remains unbroken on the empire side.

Again... unless this is hard-coded into the game by the developers... there is no way to guarantee the Crimson Fortune Company's standing in Liaedin. In fact the terms of the agreement would result in an entropy effect in Crimson Fortune's standings that would drive it's standings back down to pre-Operation Blossom levels.

Volungu is fair game for us Feds. We can push PP down to 0% if we so desired and the EIC and its allies can do nothing about it due to the treaty. They won't participate in the conflict zones. They are locked into the insignifcant island that is Liaedin and must stay there. This is a win.

The treaty with EIC has done nothing to prevent Imperials from participating in the Volungu combat zones. It certainly hasn't stopped the Imperial Navy NPCs nor has it had an appreciable effect on the player base. Yesterday I was chased off from the low intensity zone by a CMDR in a clipper with my Cobra down to 88% hull integrity. As soon as my shields were back up I re-entered the zone and another Cobra pilot and I managed to drop the Clipper's shields to which the Clipper's pilot responded by combat logging. Regardless... they are out there in Open so I'm sure they are participating in Solo/Group in large numbers. When Commanders are able to hop into Solo and participate in these zones incognito how do you even BEGIN to enforce the terms of such a treaty? The "meta-game" just won't allow it.

Federation literally means united. I humbly ask those Federation pilots reading this to unite with us, win the war in Volungu and let the imperials have their worthless piece of system called Liaedin. We have de-clawed de-fanged that lion and its strategic value is lost. Yet real, imminent threats assault us in other systems, where we can desperately use support. Join us in Papercut. Or fight the slavers in one of the myriad star systems where they deign to expand. Let us be Federated.

-CMDR Bloodhawk

Okay... now you're talking my language. We have to unite! That doesn't mean dissolving existing groups but we need to agree on a framework for good order and discipline. Operation Blossom has suffered for not operating from a central command. Too many splintered groups with their own agendas and divergent objectives. A single Post Commander should have had assignment to the Volungu system and, by virtue of proximity, the authority to manage operations in Liaedin. We really need to assign our Post Commanders to actual posts! Give them jurisdiction of key systems within the Federation and the responsibility for building wings to defend those systems and for supplying troops to these larger operations. We need an H.G. Wells type "Wings over the World" organization to unite us for peace. I propose that the varied Federation factional leaders come together and create a "Wings over the Federation" cover group where they can work toward standardizing how we operate, set clear lines of communication and define a chain of command so that we never again have to wonder who is in charge and who has the authority to enter into negotiations with non-Federation factions.

Been there since that first shouts of help rang out. over 1mil of combat bonds in and hope the Calvary arrives.

If we lose/win Volungu I'd kill for a signature like the one above this post but it says: "I was at Volungu and i held the line to the end"

I've been here since before the Patron's Principles started hostilities, your support is much appreciated commander. Alone we were unable to prevent their aggression, together we will end it. Fly safe!

Remind me when we're done... and its yours!

All right. Converted my Python from a trader to a combat vessel. Volungu here I come. For the Federation!

Thank you commander, the people of Volungu welcome you.

This may be a good time to remind commanders that Jemison Refinery, where Combat Bonds are handed in, is an outpost, so only small or medium ships can dock.
