Can anyone tell me why we can't get a deer?

Come on, make your choice.

To be fair, we already had 4 deer going into this year. I still think we could use another next year. My hope is the white-tailed deer, but I'd also be stoked to see Pere David's or Reeve's muntjac.
Dude, we didn’t get any deer this year. But it doesn't matter, these are all minor issues, and I probably understand what you mean. I'm just saying that it doesn't make sense that we got such an abundance of ungulates this year but no deer.

I'm just saying, we already had a relatively large amount of deer going into the year, especially relative to the number of equids, rhinos, camelids, etc. we had. We certainly could've stood to get a deer (Pere David's over saiga would have done absolute wonders for the new pack imo), but I guess deer just drew the short straw this year.
I don't think any cervids are even essential, but a small species like a pudu or reeves muntjac would be really nice.

Not a fan of the idea of white-tailed deer. We don't keep them in NA that often, are they even kept in EU?

They don’t seem to be common at all, but they are around in Europe. I strongly disagree with them being uncommon in NA, though. Maybe if you’re only looking at generalist AZA collections, but they’re practically a backbone of lower budget zoos and especially any collection with a strong focus on native species. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a native specialist facility that doesn’t have them, in fact

Honestly, I've only seen fallow deer in unaccredited zoos here. But I really have only been to zoos in the Northeast. I know Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo has them, I just haven't been there.

This is where I convert all of you into Reeve's muntjac fans, so then I can mix them with red pandas like they do a Franklin Park Zoo. So yes, deer, please. 🤗
Even those of us who are northern muntjac fans? 😂

I’ll take any muntjac but northern (Indian) will have the most biomes and regions within Asia, right?
