Hope is a funny thing, people are still in denial over what was said and still have hope:
We will have to wait and see what exactly they meant by "no future Vr support other than current bug fixes",
While the livestream did sound like that there will be no more VR support whatsoever, we also know that fdev has been intentionally vague and ambivalent in many of their statements and there is a good chance that they will backpedal at some point.
Well, there's no way they could be more clear. And saying never is not something businesses do. Successful ones anyway. But currently, in the period of foreseeable future, there is not one soul working on anything VR related. They might fix some bugs if they get to work on the code part where the VR bug is located while implementing other features.
That's not to say VR will never be on the development roadmap - what they definitely did NOT say on stream was "we're never touching VR again"
Yeah, but it's as accurate as "one day we will get flying cars", which, while not technically false... you get the idea.
What the CM's are saying is that 'no planned development' means that VR is being left behind.
Yeah. And when we get gas giants gameplay (hahahahaha) it will be pancake only. When we get paid-per-ship-interiors-dlc (hahahahaha) it will be pancake only. When we get full atmospheric planets (hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha), it will be pancake only. And each feature which is poorly thought out without VR support introduces technical debt, which is already present in their ages old VR implementation. That's why it's not working well with Pimaxes.
FD are committed to VR for Horizons
And from where you dig that gem? Quote, linky? In my opinion they aren't committed to anything VR, even CBA to fix wrong rendering for each eye in some parts of the game from what I read recently somewhere...
Though there are some features that shouldn't require rewriting everything that would make it all a little bit better.
Yeah but you apparently didn't understand the THC (The Honest Communitymanager) when he was saying "no further VR development in Odyssey". This is feature development. Forget it. It's not going to happen. Even Bob from accounting who secretly wants to be a developer isn't working on it in his spare time. Zero, nada, zilch.
Unfortunately I know another case: Everspace 2.
And X4. With Everspace, I asked the devs about any plans for VR during one of the livestreams, and while they didn't straight rule it out, I remember he gave me a year, 2023 or 2024 at the earliest. A honest answer, which I appreciated. With X4, devs threw a hissy fit because X-Rebirth VR didn't sell well. Geee I wonder why that would be:
X4 is on my no-go list because, you guessed it - VR support or lack thereof, and Egosoft's hissy fit about it, too. I mean, sure, take your most universally hated game, X-Rebirth, release it as a standalone release and full-priced, remove original Rebirth campaign and be angry that people didn't buy your most universally hated game again, that's kinda the same level of silliness as "you will get bored running inside your ship, but not outside your ship" (c)
