Celebrating 35 years of Elite!

My favourite memory of Elite Dangerous is when I first started the game and saw the actual size of the ship compared to the size of a station. The awe factor is what kept me coming back for the last 2 nearly 3 years!
Commander name is: lancer_206

Well I can think of two things from playing the original BBC Micro disk based Elite back in ‘84:

Receiving a message about a mission I had been selected for. Me! Out of the blue! Having to track a ship across the galaxy I believe. I can feel the excitement of when that happened right now!

And then finally becoming Elite and posting off the card you had to fill in to see if you were first to become Elite after game release. I really thought I had a chance! Didn’t win but I bet I was pretty close.

My childhood basically. Thank you.

Stuart

My best memory was playing the original on C64 and making a successful station dock without my fathers help. That same feeling remains all these years later every time I request docking permissions today.

When I saw my commanders name linked to my first planet. Awesome thank you. shut_up_n_diie on PS4

My best memory is the missiles you only had 3 or 4 but they were pretty much a one shot one kill weapon and even in the new elite we still don't have that.

Well, I remember fondly of me, crashing into Achenar 3. It was a fun experience, and a valuable lesson was learned that day, if nothing else. Reaching Colonia for the first time is also a great memory, and along with that visiting Sagittarius A* and Beagle Point. Looking forward to what's yet to come!

Aside from using the filter tool that one had to place on the screen and then enter the not-very-clear code in order to log on to the spectrum 48k version, my favorite memory is when I achieved Elite on the Acorn Electron by switching to the rear view and blasting the vipers as they came out of the space station. Right on Commander!

Hey guys, my name is kToOmega, PC Commander, and veteran explorer. I first started playing Elite Dangerous when it was still in early access on Xbox One, and instantly fell in love. In the years since, I’ve made 10 trips to Sag A, been to all four ends of the galaxy, but my best and most favourite moment has to be when my friend, and most trusted wingman made it to Beagle Point for the first time. We started on a Friday night, with 70 LU Conrad, and didn’t stop until we arrived. 38 hours of jumping, water world scanning, and memes later, we arrived. I’ll never forget the feeling. Total abyss on one end, and a whitish, ethereal scar across the sky on the other. We felt a sense of ‘holy crap we actually did it’. We took a three day break, then went back to Sol to sell. Made a pretty penny, but the feeling of being so far away, and being in mostly uncharted void is a feeling I won’t soon forget

My best memory is seeing this for the first time...

... not!

1984, It was Christmas - I was 14. My parents had bought me a BBC Micro in the hope that I would learn to program. We were staying at my Gran's for Xmas. Come Xmas day - the family never saw me again for the rest of the holiday. I was locked in the guest bedroom becoming dangerous, then deadly in the hope to be Elite.

I did become a coder and here I am 35 years later, still playing Elite and programming. Back when 14, I wanted so much to make amazing games just like Elite, it gave me so much enthusiasm and drive to do so, it made a life goal and shaped my career.

Cmdr Caln for the next 35 years and beyond.

The first time I was cruising around in my Corvette with prismatics and everything just...shut down. In the middle of the dead spin, the sight of the Thargoid ship coming out of Witch Space...it was heart stopping. My powerful ship with it's shields, turrets, fighter was just rendered completely helpless not by an attack but by the presence of a ship. It was humbling and an experience I've never duplicated.

When I started playing the game a few years ago I had loads of friends that helped me out and overall a lot of support by the community.
This is probably the best memory in any video game ever.

Happy anniversary Elite Dangerous and cheers to your great community!

I was flying with some friends on Xbox. We were all in party chat, but I wasn't in the wing with them. They had been doing missions and my buddy said something to the effect of "The Cutter is like playing the game on easy-mode. I love this thing! It's un-killable!"

Challenge Accepted.

As they continued their mission, I went to our home system to pick up my Imp Eagle. This ship was engineered to be a racer. It will cruise at around 550 and boost to around 730 in normal flight. My buddy had finished a mission, was docking at a Coriolis station. He was already inside and moving towards his docking pad. I clicked off my shields, flew right through the mail slot, hit the boost, and rammed his Cutter exploding immediately.

*RED ALERT: PILOT MURDERED IN THE DOCKING BAY

As the last ship to touch me before I exploded, the station assumed that he had killed me. He apparently had enough time to attempt to flip the ship and try to escape, but the station damage was too much.

$25 million credits later, he respawned at a detention center.

He didn't think it was as funny as I did.

CMDR Kote BR here. One of my best memory in Elite dangerous is:
The very first monthes, when I was doing Bulk Imperial Slave Trade, up until 4am, with my friends in the chat, and after many comes and goes, I made to my very first 1 Million Credits. Neve felt so glad in my life! ahahahah

My best memory was when I first got my Elite rank and I have been playing since 2016. I know there is many good things what has happened in the game, but this one made me very happy. I felt the amount of joy and satisfaction by earning something hard. I know there is many people who have got Elite, but that one was mine and it was my very first one. Nothing beats this memory.

My Favorite memory is on day 1.

In my sidewinder in the hanger and not a clue what was ahead and flying out of the station to see the galaxy for the first time and being completely awestruck at the visuals, just constantly flying past the planets and the suns with mouth agape and drooling.

I fell in love and no matter what gets broken when updates are applied or the very generous free ARX we can earn, i am just eternally happy that this game exists and i hope it does for a VERY long time.

I am also, 5 years later, still awestruck by the beauty.

Keep up the good work FD and fly safe out there.
