News Chapter Four - Exploration Reveal

Will your muticrew member be able to enter SRV?

sutch a little thing with imense fun factor at guardian ruins etc. 1 in ship or fighter rest at srv´s. Thats multicrew for me?

Since i already asked the very same question and got no answer, im taking its not coming..

Everything looks very cool but please tell me you also have new gameplay on the planetary surface with the srv... otherwise we discover planets but still without any reason to land and horizons receives no benefit for additional gameplay

Ummm, this blows.

A lot.

And hard.

I run around doing missions. A lot. I go here and there all over the bubble. So I'm constantly taking missions to low pop systems I've never been to.

Now: I drop into a system and whoops, never been here. 'Honk' Okay there is my target. Off I go.

After the update: Drop into a system, whoops. Never been here 'Honk' OK, find a signal... Nope, that's not it. OK, find another… Nope ...36 stellar bodies later... *ragequit

How about scanning the beacon ?

That is what I do in my T10, who has no scanner whatsoever.

QUESTIONS:
1)Does "first mapped by" apply to all planet/star types and or spacial anomolies, or merely planets we can currently land on eg Atmosphereless worlds?
2) If we can "first map" an Earth like world, will this show up new types of data, eg population, life form types etc?
3) RE the new USS mechanic will we be able to identify the nature of the contents of the USS using skill, such as specific materials/ data or ship types,or will it merely allow you to search for the current types eg NHSS threat 4 or high grade emmissions?

I am unsure what I think about all this. On the face of it is sounds amazing and better than anyone could have asked for PLUS very close to some of the stuff I've read in the DDF...

On the other hand, losing the ADS' convenient ability to reveal every body - even in favour of incredible gameplay - is going to be a tough sell. It will certainly slow exploration down a heap, making it take even longer to decide whether you want to visit a planet or not.

I wonder if a compromise might be to still allow the ADS to uncover the number of bodies in a system, and populate the system map with those black circles that made an appearance due to the bug ages ago when you implemented the surface views to the system map. That might help a little?

I dunno... Credits aren't the only reason people "just honk" the system, that's all. It's also to get an overview to decide whether to explore further. We need something therefore to help us decide whether we want to perform the deep discovery scan you're proposing.

Would you be able to explain some more about the gravity mapping?

If you want the location data without using the discovery scanner you can still scan the Nav Beacon to obtain this information.
Wow. So we will be able to have the best of both two worlds - you definitely put some thought into the new mechanic.
Now the only thing I'm interested in - when can I install the update???
:D

Also I wonder will this make finding known locations harder.

Ie someone says go to [a system] and find body AB 6C, if the system is unmapped presumably the players will have to search through signals to find a candidate (ie perhaps you know it's a high metal content world), rather than just go directly to it?

Q.

Have the devs noticed how much longer it takes if an explorer wants to scan a entire system with the new system against what we have now?

Without seeing it in use, it sounds like it'll dramatically slow down exploration.

I would day this is going to shake ED to its foundation in a good way and will set many of explorers hearts racing.

Will the surfaces of known bodies be mapped to the people who discovered them in real life or is it all up for grabs?

With the USSs.

People use these for hunting material.

I wonder will this mean that material is harder to come by.

That in a way we will be replacing slow-cruising through a system to find (say high grade emmisions) for jumping in and out repeatedly to refresh USSs?

I would guess quite the opposite jump in, spot 3 potentially high grade uss and make beeline to them

  • Remove Random USS Spawning: You will now be able to use your skill to locate signal sources rather than rely on luck. you will have the ability to identify a USS from anywhere in the system and then explore and discover these locations.

[heart] [heart] [heart] [heart] [heart] Superb!!

...You will be able to synthesise micro-probes for the detailed surface scanner, but the better aim you are, the less probes you will need to get complete coverage....

Obvious question, but people have done more stupid things: this (these?) synthesis recipes don't require anything that can only be found in civilized USSes, I hope (like the heat sinks requiring filaments)? That stuff is awfully hard to come by when you're 40,000 ly from sol.

Great news! Really looking forward to trying out these new and exciting features and also really looking forward to more info about the update!! Well done guys!!!

Looks like we still can do exactly that - reveal the bodies with a system / beacon scan.
If so - it's great.

First impression is good, interesting even.

Question 1. USS spawn, is it a one off, or will new ones generate if you stay in a system for a long time
USS will continue to spawn at set intervals, each one has a timer as well which denotes when it will expire.

Question 2. Do the different levels of discovery scanner still have the same range limitations?
We are considering upgrading all discovery scanners into a single discovery scanner and removing the lesser versions from the game. Those players who have already purchased scanners above the basic level would receive compensation.

I like the bases of what is being discussed. But, I want to add: can you please get rid of the duplicity of scanners. Their should be only 2 choices, not 3. A basic scanner that goes unlimited distance and operates as you stated above. Then the advanced fiat covert scanner that combines both the basic scanner and the DSS. Right now, there is no reason for the basic scanner and adds zero to the game.

A fringe benefit is that you free up 1 slot for everyone.

Besides that, let’s see how it goes! I purposely held off on explorer Elite for more game play.

edit: wow auto correct sucks. But, I’m not changing it so you can all laugh!
