News Chapter One Beta closure

Could not find a thread regarding this. Can someone tell me how to create a new thread?
I've lost two ships from storage. My Asp Explorer and a Vulture. I had a great deal of time spent on these two ships. Neither of them show up in storage only my two Sidewinders. This is unacceptable and this has happened to others. If you can't restore to me my two ships there is simply no reason to continue playing. I have not gone to the forums yet but will if i don't hear back. I'd like a refund for the game as I obviously can no longer play it knowing my hard work will always be destroyed. Please restore my ships of refund me for the game and I will removes it from my system. Love the game but this is ridiculous and I've notice it has happened to others.

You'll need to open a ticket with support: https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/

Not all of the sub forums allow us to create threads, where it is allowed there is a button at the top of the forum labelled "Post New Thread" your loss should be reported on the support site, there is a link on the launcher as well, or you could go to the bug report forum and create a thread in the subforum for your platform, there is a specific format for bug reports.
But support sounds your best bet.

Who else is stunned at how short this beta was for such a major version number? There were major changes in every one with huge bugs still remaining in each.

As has been said it's always amazed me the glacial pace that Frontier develops on. Remember how horrible the No Man's Sky launch was, how much content was missing? Have you seen how much they've added to the game over a 1 year period, with a team of 10 (supposedly there are over 100 working on Elite). With 1/10th the resources they added more to NMS in that first year than Elite has gotten since launch - seriously, go look at their release notes over that time. Frontier should be embarrassed by their pace.

Oh remember that big narrative that was going to come with the Thargoid invasion? Does anyone know when that's supposed to start? I mean I saw a few new weapons and some community goals but haven't seen any narrative or changes that needed to be slowly rolled out.

Not stunned, but pleasantly surprised on how good the ch.1 beta turned out and the extra surprise features and changes. A lot of time and resources was getting the ps4 version to work which I would guess hampered the development of everything else in 2017. I'm amazed that the ps4 release was just six months ago and that the ps4 community has integrated so well. I'd still accept the tradeoff in a longer Horizons dev time since the ps4 community adds to the persistent galaxy, the future of the game, and the playerbase as a whole. They also announced a dedicated effort to Beyond during the FrontierExpo while continuing to work on the 2.4 Return. I'd thought the thargoid invasion had already started. Stations started burning. New megaship rescues. AX fighters and new weaponry. Even thargoid hunting & research modes were added to multicrew. They're slowly making their way to the borders of the bubble. Remember in Star Trek :TNG, the borg had decimated Romulan outposts in season1, and it was still more than a year since Q gave the TNG crew a heads up on them, before they invaded deep into Federation space in "Best of Both Worlds", so a two year drawn out invasion from another end of the galaxy.

Elite has much bigger scope than NMS, it's much more complicated, that's why it's difficult to change one thing because you need to change others. You can throw any crap into NMS, because it's not even a sim or something. It had nothing to begin with, and anything will look like a good bunch of content. It's like comparing Forza with Mario Kart, or Arma with CoD, or X3 with Freelancer, or Tekken with Smash Bros, I can go on and on.. Really, so while I'm trying to make one vehicle for Forza, the other guy has already made 5 of them for Mario Kart. I'm hyperbolizing probably, but the simpler a game is, the easier to add content to it.

Exactly. It's easy to examine NMS closely and see it's at its core a walking survival game with dressed up space elements. The space travel is cartoony, the planet flyover is basically a basic flight simulation level, and the ship is like an arcady, cartoony go-kart. The randomized planet variations gets old quick and has little of the physics and astronomical theory fidelity of the ED planetoids. I bet NMS' cartoony design style was intentional so that there was no need to adhere to a realistic style, space physics and galaxy which would have required a lot more work. Kind of like manga compared to realistic looking faces in comics. To give NMS due credit, it does have its own unique colorful art style which may be relaxing and dreamlike to some.

I've just had a thought, while open beta has closed, might there not be a following closed beta to give a last minute shakedown before release?
As a backer (only at alpha stage), I've manage to get to test all the betas, before open beta was a 'thing'. So maybe beta isn't completely finished with ... yet.
I suspect that they are now working away on release version, but you never know.

On a slightly off-topic note.
Regarding PS4 and Xbox players ... are we likely to get cross platform integration any time soon?

It would be good to play with all players of Elite regardless of machine being used.

It would be better for game players in general and I think better for games companies.

As it stands you need to own one of each machine to be able to play every game.

Someone has already mention that bringing in console players has increased ED's footprint.
Best thing with ED is that there should not be any great advantage of one type over another.

Were the ships in the Beta? The Beta is/was totally separate from the live game, and all that happens in Beta stays in Beta - there's no transfer to the live game.

That's why an open beta is probably not the best approch... there should at least be a minimum time of being registered in order to access the betas. Doesn't make much sense for new players to test a beta anyway, as they don't really have a clue of what and how to test.

Not sure on that

when E:D enters Beta I tend to use it to try out stuff that's new or alternately stuff that ive never tried before

So I am effectively a "new player" and I often don't have a clue of what or how to test

Not really because you have enough experience in the live game to tell if things are better, worse or just different.

Never used Engineers before - used them in Beta

No idea if they are better, worse or different

Been playing Elite for the very beginning from before when ing betty the drunken station announcer would throw you out the airlock when docking as soon as you even looked at the station

Thank you FD for letting regular players participate in the Beta 1 and 2! I had a blast! Can't wait for the update to go live. I parked around a really dull looking planet, looking forward to watching it evolve. :D
