CMDR just wants to play.

So prove it wasn't ;)
Why should I when it wasn't me making the claim?
I just said that Elite Dangerous is a successful game and someone else said "No it isn't, because X is more successful" which is a pretty weak argument.

Soooo...you can't?

Or won't?

So he doesn't need to. Do we really have to go over what the burden of proof is and why it lies by default with the one making the claim?

You could ask babel to substanciate his assertion that ED is succesful, but you can certainly not ask him to disprove something which you have not proven true to begin with.

Both.
AFAIK there are no official numbers available, therefore I can't.
And it isn't related to the claim I made, that Elite is a successful game. It doesn't interest me, therefore I won't.

Again, why do you suggest I should care?

Thanks, I started to believe that I am the one being nuts :)

Because seemingly, without being able to, and not wanting to.

You still tried to.

Sure, let's get back to the premise of the argument.

No one did.

He left the IMO off the end by the way. #just saying

If you're going to get all paralegal and clever clogs over it. You don't have to do anything with an opinion. Unless someone then sticks it in an academic papers and cites it as research.

D'ya get me?

If it makes you happy: Elite Dangerous is successful in my opinion. You could have got that easier, next time just ask rather than making weird innuendos.

The X universe is way more successful IMO. You're projecting

Under which definition of normal....yours? Let's focus on the "IMO" bit in future shall we. And stop calling people trolls as a defence when you want out of a scenario you've created, it's beneath you, Sir.

In all seriousness Babel, it's infuriating to many and as hs been eluded to, counterproductive unless "someone" calls it out. The result being FD get a mixed message back and the game goes nowhere [citation needed]. The false equivalencies and misrepresentation of people's "opinion" as "fact that needs to be disproved by those that hold the opinion", maybe because it's been "confirmed by a third party" that also seems intent on "disproving" the "unprovable" (ad hoc ergo propter hoc if there are any lawyers in the house)

It's no way to act.

And then you call others out for confusing you?

All good ;)

Hope you're happy too.

PS: I'm still playing by the way, and I've not made any claims about you that you haven't about me already, so let's allow the Mods to enjoy their Crimbo, eh fella? If it helps, I won't report you for calling me a troll either.

Yes he does (or, you know...he doesn't on account of it being an internet forum). He cited opinion as fact. And once that was addressed, went back to the incorrect premise without backing it up. The very thing that...yadda yadda.

I just hope the pattern is clear now. Really it deserves a medal, I'm in awe.

Not least because the loop was even closed and re-affirmed out of context

If it makes you happy: Elite Dangerous is successful in my opinion

Again, a false equivalency that no one was disputing and couldn't argue with if they tried. It's genius.

Seriously Babel. You obviously understand open system mechanics better than most. You should be helping out with 3.0, not making me giggle on here. Genius mate, really. It's almost like the conversational equivalent of driving a shield-less sidewinder into a speeding cutter trying to dock in open.

So no, I'm not "trolling". Being playful maybe, but bottom line, I'm actually praising your technique. It's inspired.

If you don't want to get called a troll I suggest you start posting replies with some substance rather than random pictures or messages that only consist of "...".
Outside of your brain nobody understands what you are trying to talk about and it isn't always as funny as you think it is.

How is "Elite is successful in my opinion" a false equivalency?!
I think you don't know what that term means. Let's look at an example:
"Elite is not successful because X is successful."
That's what I would call a false equivalency, and it's what the other guy said. So why don't you waste your time with him rather than me?

Is Elite Dangerous successful?

They sold ~ 3 million copies.
They released the game on 4 different platforms.
Metacritic of 80 based on 100 professional reviews.
There is no decrease in the number of active players since the release 3 years ago.
It's Frontiers first self published game and allowed them to release Planet Coaster and develop Jurassic World. They also released several updates and expansions.
According to their financial reports the company is quite healthy.

I'd say that's quite successful, it is of course just my opinion though.
