Cobra Mk V

I'm trying to figure out what the future holds. Buy 4 ships for ARXs or just buy the Odyssey (at a discount) and put it away and play Horizons(LIVE)

I would just get Odyssey, imho, even if you don't then play it and stay in Horizons. It's inexpensive normally, and goes on sale from time to time. By all means, then just wait for the ships but you have the option to kick in the Arx to get the ships and have options to play either release version. Odyssey does have exobiology which is very helpful for credit gain, so there is that to consider.

Odyssey is exactly the same game as Horizons, just with the "CMDR can leave the ship on foot" flag set to ON; in the same way that Horizons differed from the base game by having the "CMDR can fly their ship towards non-atmospheric planets" set to ON.

I understand that. I just don't understand why you can't buy new ships over time in Horizons (LIVE) with credits if you don't have a purchased Odyssey.

Just as Horizons introduced ships that could only be acquired for credits by those who own Horizons, so Odyssey introduces ships that can only be acquired for credits by those who own Odyssey (subject to waiting out the Arx4Access period).

If Horizons (Live) players (who don't own Odyssey) want to acquire the ships they must first unlock access to each of them for ARX in the store.

I am confused, please clear this up for me if I have it wrong:
Horizons (ie base game) is Legacy
Odyssey is Live
Are the new ships: Python mkII, Type-8, Mandalay and Cobra mkV available in Legacy? (I'm not talking about for Arx, but for credits after the for-Arx period)

As far as I understand the base game of Нorizonts there are always 2 variants, Legacy and Lives.

The game split into two "versions": Live and Legacy.

Legacy is the 3.8 game client, i.e. Horizons.

Live is the the 4.0 game client, i.e. Horizons and Odyssey.

The 3.8 game client has not received any update to include the new ships.

The 4.0 game client has been updated to include the new ships but only those who own Odyssey can purchase them for credits (once the Arx4Access period has finished). Players of Horizons (Live) require to unlock each ship using ARX in the store before they can purchase it for credits in the game.

There are two live environments - Horizons, and Odyssey (with current version numbers). The launcher also offers 'legacy' which as the name suggests, is the old version (much older version number) and is not receiving content or updates. Check the launcher, it lists the things available.

edit: ninja'd by Robert - balanced, as all things should be.

If I own Odyssey but only play in Horizons(Live) will I have access to Python Mk 2 and TYPE-8 for credits in Horizons(Live)?

I was told by people who know that I can buy the new ships in Odyssey for credits, log out, login to Horizons 4.0 then use the ships.

It's already been explained above. Just wanted to find out what is more profitable to buy Odyssey or 4 ships for ARXS.

No.
1. Horizons (Legacy)
2. Horizons (Live)

1. Horizons (Legacy)
2. Horizons (Live)
3. Odyssey (Live)

Ships purchased with Arx are available to unlock for options 2 and 3. Not 1. Only 2 of the 4 ships have been added as in-game purchases; the other two (mandalay and cobra mk v) are still locked behind arx. If playing legacy only, then it is irrelevant as they are not available in that case at all.

No. Since the legs(Odyssey) are just an addition to Live Horizons (DLC)

I feel like this is a language thing. Believe as you see fit.
