Cobra mkV vs Python vs Krait

As long as engineering is the way it is, they can't really create a small ship which is worth being bought for real money. I would have wished somebody at FD would've grown a pair, grabbed the big nerfhammer and finally, after all these years, brought it down on engineering. But changing engineering enough that small ships would actually be a reasonably good choice for anything but very niché applications would require a good deal of nerfing.

So, even the new Cobra unfortunately has to be a medium ship. And based on it having three seats, i actually think that it will be SLF capable, potentially making it a real alternative to the Krait MK II.

I think if imperial courier would be not yet relased years ago but added similarly as new ships but with enchanced SCO handling, it would sell quite well for ARX, as courier as it is, its quite OP compared to most of smaller ships. Highest base shields, 4 utility, one of best hardpoints among lightweights, outspeeded only by imp eagle and viper 3 in racing bulids, and 8 internals slots, and its only 35t of base mass. Only downsides it has, its quite bad at thermal handling.

If something similar would be relased, I would certainly dont mind spend ARX on such...

In my opinion, the Python will remain the undefeated king of its multirole category
The Type 8 already knocked the Python out of all of its roles in my fleet. I always preferred the KMII or even the Krait Phantom to the Python, though--more enjoyable to fly. I'm not looking forward to the Cobra Mk V at all. I'll buy it, but how different can it really be? I feel like We're seeing nuanced variations on a theme because that is less work than building variety; I just worry whether true variety in SCO capable ships will ever happen. Small and large--when?

Like we need another combat vessel?
The python ll, the FDL, Viper, cobra 3, krait ll, python, cutter, corvette etc etc.
What we do need is a large cargo vessel that can shift 1000+ tons of goods hehe.
I just dont get why a cobra V?
However, iam looking forward to seeing how it stacks up against the other crop of fighters.
Will it be the new meta?
Will it raise as many sales via arx as the mandalay or the python ll?
Will it come with that sweet looking UK 🇬🇧 skin? Which of course l got on my cobra 3.
Let's hope they plan for new ships in 2025 and ever on!

Hopefully it will be much more interesting than that, meta builds are so samey that they are dull.

Hopefully many many more.

Probably not given the poor range of skins left for sale.

Agreed.

I heard that it has a size 8 fuel scoop, can jump over 80LY and those two top mounted flaps open to reveal two Huge hardpoints.
Then i woke up.
But just look at it!! Santa needs to hurry up!

I can only assume with the exception of the SCO being standard on the MK V, It will be the same as the difference the MK IV is to that of the MK III. Making all those who have been waiting in earnest for a MK IV to stop their waiting in earnest. Which Ironically is the same system Raxxla is located.

I'm hoping for the faster than light handling of the krait with the boost handling of the FDL, in a ship that has a decent shield modifier, is fast and has plenty of internal space and a decent jump range, ideally with the power plant advantages of the krait being brought to a smaller more manoeuvrable ship due to this new fangled heat tech that has sprouted from the war with the thargoids.

Yes a new master, a decent fighter than can also run game missions, rather than just fight and not be useful for the gameplay, like the Python 2 and the FDL.
I would like to be able to deal in rare goods and with gankers at the same time!

Besides the rendered image (not in-game rendering!) and its size, we don't know anything about the ship, yet. There's no point to create myths that it will make certain ships 'obsolete'. For sure, FDev will balance it in a way that it doesn't excel in all categories. And that will lead (again) to outcries from some forum members.

To cater those people, I would suggest that FDev creates the absolute uber-ship: For 100 cr they can get a large size but can land on outposts, jump-range 1800 ly (unengineered), running at 3% heat, size 99 hardpoints (at least 23 hardpoints), etc. and deploy it in a new game mode: 'solo, unconnected to the BGS' :D Oh, and I forgot: Name has to be Panther Clipper Z9000.

Ah, the Cobra Mk IV. Everyone who can't get one is angry that we can't. Everyone who has one is angry that it's only meta role is as a small miner. FDEV probably forgot it even existed until they were figuring out what to name and skin the SCO med mk IV because everyone who was involved in its development and inception is gone. It should be the forum mascot...

All i care about is good hardpoints/convergence and not taking several working days and an advance notice to get up to speed like the Kraits do.

So, like a Federal Assualt ship, but maybe with a bit more punch, and an SCO drive...
They did that one already.

I mean you could have posted a Mandalay in this message and it would amount to the same thing, but nothing puts a dampener on a ship more than terrible maneuverability.
In fact, if it turns out it is slow to accelerate, personally, i will absolutely skip on it entirely, even when it becomes purchasable with credits.

Convergence can be managed, but its still preferable for it to support all kinds of weapons and not make the mistake the Cobra MK3 and Clipper have, IE: certain hardpoints, or in the latter case, ALL the hardpoints are all but incapable of running fixed weapons in any sort of practical manner.

Also, on the point about ship handling. The Type-8 handles beautifully and that amounts to a brick with some thrusters attached. In fact, its the only one of the trade ships I actively enjoy flying. Likewise the lack of handling is the reason I purposely avoid ships like the Cobra3, Courier and Kraits.

Yes, and compared to the difference between, say, a type 9 and a Federal Corvette, the Type 8 isn't very unlike these two either. Given the pattern, I wouldn't expect the Mk 5 to vary in any particularly interesting way.
Clipper ... ALL the hardpoints are all but incapable of running fixed weapons in any sort of practical manner.
This is my favorite multipurpose ship to fly, but good grief was a lot of potential thrown away! In real life, hot rod ship engineers would section down the wings on these so that it would fit on a medium pad and fight like it should. Gutamaya makes no medium ship. FDEV introduces four new ships to the game. All medium. None from Gutamaya. It makes me hurt inside.
