Cobra skin

Do you think the 30th Anniversary Cobra skin price is too high for a single item?

The price is nearly the same as the set of multiple viper skins. If it were a pack of 'vector' skins for all the current existing ship types...or at least cobra, viper and sidewinder I would be more inclined to cough the cash.

I already felt 4 euro is past my limit. Imagine how I think about 13 euro for a mere 1 ship skin. It is inconceivable I would ever spent that amount of money on just a single skin.
If the goal is to keep the skin exclusive than they will most likely succeed with that excessive pricetag.

£10 for a skin is ludicrous.

Yes, we all want to celebrate the 30th anniversary but this is a slap in the face for the kickstarters and alpha buyers and it smacks of simple greed!

Costs 5x more for a skin you can make in 3-4 mins in Photoshop, sorry thats just silly. Sadly again people are defending it and saying its fine and its good to support Frontier, but they more they defend it, the more things like this (and worse) will be added.

Personally I think my £200 was support enough from one person. I won't be buying it as my time with ED is over but even if I was still playing, I would not pay £10 for a skin. £10 is not a MICROtransaction.

I disagree.

The skin is Limited Edition Premium content. It's not important to the game, it offers no benefit, and is intended to serve as a temporary luxury item for the anniversary.

It's no different to a special gold coin minted for a special event, it's not intended to be owned by everyone, just those willing to spend more. That's why premium content exists in the first place.

Frontier can charge what they like for special luxury merchandise, and it doesn't matter how early you Backed either. Everyone knew what they were buying into, and this particular skin wasn't anywhere on that agreement. Just because you got in early, doesn't entitle you to every bit of fluff merchandise they choose to sell later.

The only mistake they made was unveiling the skin before the pricing. It was probably a bit silly to let people get their eyes set on it before they knew if they were willing to pay for it or not. So, yeah, if you're upset because you had your hopes dashed, then I can understand being disappointed.

Probably the best post in the thread.
And agree wholeheartedly. I will not buy this.

Albeit I DID buy a flag and a couple more of the normal ones.
Vote with your wallet, but don't be too quick to judge.

The price of the skin is very high. But I think that Frontier does not intend to make money with it. Otherwise, Frontier would have sold the skin £2-3 to have a lot more buyers. This skin is a collectible item for the purists, the passionate people.

I am very passionate about the game. I am just not passionate about this price.
I don't know what purist means in this context.
My wallet simply has its limits. This is far beyond it.

Was about to invoke the 'horse armour' meme, but it turns out that even that was only $2.50!

Not quite 'monocle'-gate, but for me to spend £10, I would expect meaningful content of some sort.

Thirteen euro for a single skin is just outright ridiculous.
I was already opposed to the other skin prices they set in the store, but this one just goes beyond it by almost an order of magnitude.

They just pulled the nostalgia card to make you pay an obscene amount of money for a tiny digital item and 1/3 of the people seem to be just fine with that. They will be thanking you lot for paving the way for more overpriced store items in the future.

There appear to be a few blemishes in the paintwork. I have seen images from FD without logo applied. Can anyone confirm if this filth is on the final product?

It's not on the Cobra in the hanger. Sorry, but I don't know how to add an image.

£10 for a skin that's only available for 10 days ... that's fine by me.

So long as they don't release similar skins at a later date that are cheaper ... actually ... at all.

I'm happy to pay the price of a round for a skin that very few people in the game will have ... if you don't like the price ... don't buy it.

I want to add that despite being a nice touch in memory's erogenous zones, it's still a simple bundle of white lines.
I do skin jobs (love that word) at professional level for Rise of Flight, any DCS plane or helo, and will do them for Battle of Stalingrad. I know how hard is to make the first mapping and all the different layers for future use.

That skin is a easy, easy one.
If I want to support FDev for their job they should do something that's worh MY money.

I have a small budget and a big family. And, believe it or not, 13€ do HAVE an impact in my monthly allowance.

Sorry, if it was a bundle of skins for, say 3 ships, I could have accepted the expense.

I don't even think I'll own a Cobra.

Still this is hardly outrageous, vile, low, or anything.
It's just their right. Albeit somewhat clumsy.

:)

If you are really passionate, I'm sure that a member of your family or of friends can lend you £ 10 to buy the skin. And you can pay back £ 1 during 10 months.

;)

I've had a lot of good will towards Frontier about the skins. I was happy to purchase them at the prices set so far - I've bought Sidewinder skins, the Viper pack and even a flag skin.

I understand it's limited edition for the 30th anniversary.

But £10 for *one* skin, sorry that's made me angry. I like the skin, I want it - but I will vote with my wallet and not purchase this one.

Edit: I'm a hypocrite and bought it anyway. God dammit Frontier, making me spend all this money :D

Its £10 more towards future development. That's the way I viewed is as I bought it, because if I had thought I was just paying for a ship skin, even a cool, limited edition anniversary one, I wouldn't have bought it at all, not for £10.

The day I see Michael or Dave driving around in a Ferrari mind that motivation will cease. ;)

This idea that your level of passion is somehow determined by the amount of money you spend seems very bizarre to me. But hey ho, it's the same business model that those American mega-churches are built on, and they're raking it in, so maybe I'm in the minority.

1 - Take a screenshot
2 - Open MS Paint (or equivalent) and paste the screenshot
3 - Crop as required and save
4 - Go to a free image hosting site (I use http://postimage.org/) and upload the image (copy the resulting URL to the clipboard)

I voted "too high" even though I'll probably buy it, because I think it's dumb marketing. They would have made more income with higher volume of sales at a lower price. Maybe they don't need the money right now. Or it's a market test of the upper pricing limit, as others have suggested.

Another thing I don't like is the way it separates Commanders by financial status, in a game where we're all supposed to be starting out as equals. If I fly a Cobra with this skin, I'd hate to feel that I was thumbing my nose at those who just couldn't afford the scratch, during the brief sales window.

The flip side of that, of course, is that it might attract a bit more attention as a PvP target. Especially with that nice big "X" as an aim point in a turning duel...
