Code Interdicting at Diso..

Well they could scoop the cargo, that's a nice benefit. Besides, who said they are pirates? They were blockading the system not pirating in it. Blockaders are trying to stop the goal from getting done. Not being able to deliver the cargo, either through ejection or death hurts the cause, thereby helping the blockaders goal.

Ok....so answer me this How do they possibly benefit from blockading this community goal? The only benefit I can surmise is peeing in other people Cheerios.....

Because they don't want the goal to be completed, either for rp reasons or metagame reasons. Idk you'll have to ask code on that one. Maybe one of them could give you the reason.

I think a solution could involve a system in-game where groups like the Code have to submit a statement about their intentions in a system, which would be flagged up to any pilots attempting to jump there.

Either being forced to submit such a statement of intent, or being allowed to do so and have it broadcast system wide automatically, are things I'd find ridiculous.

I neither want to be hit by automated spam, unless someone is willing too sit there and broadcast it themselves, nor do I think any individual or group need be required to state their intent in order to what they please.

In the 17th century merchant ships were heavily armed to counter the piracy. At least then the pirate had a good chance of being executed if caught instead of a slap on the wrist. Why, in the 33rd century, are we driving double decker buses with pea shooters attached randomly to them?

Because many have been spoiled by first-world, early 21st century, law enforcement for middle and upper-class white people, to the point that they have completely abdicated any responsibility for their own safety and wish to see this carried over into a setting where it's more rightly an absurdity than the norm.

But with the goal able to be contributed to by going in to solo or private play this theory is illogical and doesn't hold water. I am not obviously grilling you if you are not a member of the group in question, but I seriously have my doubts that they could express a reason that is even remotely plausible to the people getting curb stomped for what seems like the lols.

Does it matter if the goal isn't achievable due to the way the game is setup? Their CMDRs have no knowledge of different game modes, even if the players do.

I find it rather silly to let the limitations of the game deter me from a good story, good fun, and some action.

I participate in CGs in Open. I trade in Open. I do everything in Open. Those running blockades in Open have a chance to stop my participation...and this is what we both want, the chance for this sort of interaction.

While It's a little disappointing that solo and group can just bypass any blockade, you have to do what you can with what you got. Even if you can't stop 100% of players you can still roleplay and try anyway.

It does suck for the players getting killed or looted without being aware of why. It's only going to get worse with powerplay tho. I'm sure once factions come out, players will raid other's turf and kill all the other factions members.

It seems gameplay like this was always planned by FD. We're never going to be a happy galaxy singing kumbyia.

This is what I am most looking forward to in PowerPlay.

I can legitimately enter hostile turf and attack rival powers if there is an ongoing beef.

This is what the game is missing. A reason to actually get stuck in and fight for a power beyond mere financial incentives.

Last time I looked, this was a game. Kind of taking it a bit too serious?

I'm all for this if the playing field were level - however its not and this is the main reason I play in Morbius. If I could prey on pirates with a far more combat capable ship as well as being a trader I would but the trade ships in this game are built for carrying freight and nothing else. Pirates don't stop an Imperial Clipper with an Eagle, they stop a Hauler with an Imperial Clipper.

That kind of playing field is not conducive to fun gameplay IMO. Its also not fun to lose your ship, the rebuy and all your cargo if you don't toe the pirate line and know for a fact that the person doing the pirating does so with very little risk and almost no consequence.

When the field is levelled - which it looks like FD are trying to do at least - I think more people will play in open. I guess I will once I have money to burn and losing my ship isn't such a big deal.

I only play solo because I know i would be easily killed by anyone in open. I also did not know about the blockade on Diso, to busy racking up the credits w/ the type 6 selling cargo to Diso!

It's never going to be leveled, ships trade firepower for cargo space, and cargo space for firepower. There's no 2 ways about it. That's the way every ship so far has been.

If you want some teeth fly a multirole ship and don't downgrade your shields. The python is a tank, the asp can hold it's own against most ships, the clipper is still fast when loaded with cargo and ecen packs a punch, the cobra is fast the fastest ship in the game, if you have the cash, the conda is the best, most fearsome ship in the game. Noone except another conda can touch you.

You chose your own level of ship strength, noone else.

Yes, but in the 17th century, pirates were also sailing schooners, sloops, and galleys that favored speed and agility over firepower, not fleets of first- or second-rate ships of the line.

Let them play their game...

In the end most people will go solo/group for this kind of event and they'll get bored.

Funny how some people that want mode switching to be disabled keep delivering the best arguments to keep it as it is.

Europe eventually sent navies to eradicate the pirates too. The golden age of piracy didn't last all that long really.

That's what I want to see in this game: significant NPC response to continued piracy in a system. Not that NPCs are exactly difficult to fight, but a few naval anacondas in wings constantly chasing pirates out of a system could be interesting.

Or something similar. You get the idea. It's currently a 100% lawless anarchy out there and eventually the 3 factions should step up and work on eradicating the pirates, much like the 18th century.

Yep. I said to Mobius last night I'll give them one ship, then I'll play in his group. So they've had their ship, it was fun trying to outfly them, but dey got me. Dose doity rats.

I guess the inherent lack of trust in PvP is what stops me playing it. I've done PvP before and it was true in other games as well as this - every human player is your enemy. Even your allies, they are enemies that are easier to shoot in the back. I started playing ED in Open when I first got it. After two attempts at simply flying my sidewinder to do one trade run and being killed twice I have played in Morbius ever since.

I will go back to open when It's not such a big deal losing my ship but right now I need every red cent I have - and I don't have much.

I think some things need to change on a player level and not expect the devs to fix everything for us. I would suggest these things if I running a blockading a goal. Now I know this will get ripped apart because that's what people seem to do on this forum so whatever. I realize that most people will dismiss it but hopefully some people will think its a good idea.

One thing we know for a fact is there is nothing a blockade can do to stop a goal from being accomplished. There are too many ways around that. Okay fine.

When an area gets overan by pirates/blockaders a few things happen

1. After loosing a few ships/ cargo to blockaders the traders say screw this and go to solo/private (for the most part. there is always an exception)

2. Someone ALWAYS dumps thousands of tons of cargo in front of the said station. Haha real funny but it got old about 4 CG's ago. All that does is send people to private or solo because the system cannot physically handle it.

3. With all the traders going to private or solo you end up with an instance of 20 pirates all just sitting around looking at each other. If a trader does manage to land in the instance its like fly's on poop and everyone goes running. It's kind of funny sitting back and watching 20 CMDR's try to be the first one to interdict a T6. Funny sad. :(

4. You end up with private open play instances. I have experienced this twice. No matter what I did I could not instance with the pirates, so I essentially play worry free in Open.

So far every thing peopl do to blockade CG's is counter intuitive. Every action the blockaders do send people to Solo/Private or they create these new private instances.

As I said earlier the CG is going to get done. Nothing you can do about that. So why not reward traders by staying in open? Don't kill them, no matter how much they run. Just shoot out their drives. Even their cargo hatch if you like. Let them reboot and make another run at the station. Rinse and repeat as neccessary. With the trader knowing he is not going to be blown to smithereens every time he appears in SC he is more likely to stay just for the challenge of breaking the blockade. It will also give more traders in SC for the blockaders to interdict so they are not all chasing the one that appears at a time.

Stop dumping thousands of tons of cargo. Like i said this is childish and is working against what you are trying to do. I was with a trading group TS and all I kept hearing was. Screw all this cargo laying outside the station. Going to solo/private. Once again counter intuitive for the blockaders. Besides. It's a shadow ban-able offense. (Maybe next CG I will just sit outside a station and get someone doing this on video to submit to the devs.)

So to all the leaders of the major groups I challenge you to challenge the way you and your players play. I bet you would find more players in open if you made these changes, which increases the value of game play of everyone. If your on the blockading side I challenge you to not do things counter-intuitive to the game immersion you are trying to produce. To all groups trading, if the blockaders are doing what I suggest and not shooting themselves in the foot, I challenge you to stay in open. More traders = more fun for everyone. I know I would certainly hop in my trade Conda and make some runs if I knew people would play in this style. Other than that I just stay away from CG's in trade ships. It's not worth the frustration. I play to have fun.
