Colossal announcement at Gamescom in two weeks' time

No more veering off into debate unrelated to the topic at hand please.

Let's stick to the anticipated forthcoming announcement thanks :)

I thought the point of this thread was to be silly, especially about the word colossal. Otherwise you would surely have merged it with the older guess the Gamescom announcement thread.

I'm sure Frontier have been paying enough attention to the community at this point to know that most people are expecting and hoping for planetary landings out of this announcement. So, I think if it weren't planetary landings, they would have already clearly let us know it's not, so as to avoid really ing off a majority of the community if it turned out to not be that.

LOLOLOLOL, I love this bit of the post. Sorry but when Has FD ever let us know anything much in advance. XBOX 1, CQC, PP yep they were all thrust at us with no inkling of pre knowledge, except maybe XBOX1 as in other platforms.

Michael Brooks on Anaconda paint jobs...."soon" yeah sure.

KS final extras...."soon"

Offline mode...."never" so here is your refund.

And on and on ...
Neverending Story, comes to mind here.

But I do admire your loyalty despite everything FD has done to get you to lose it.

Haven't they always said the Planetary Landings would be in a paid expansion? They cant seriously be planning a paid expansion when the game still has so many things to fix.

I think people should begin to accept that we already have the core Elite: Dangerous gameplay experience. Sure, it will be tweaked, refined and balanced (etc, etc) in the months and years to come; but basically, the game IS what you are playing now.

So, a paid expansion wouldn't be out of the question at this stage of the game - and planetary landings is still a distinct possibility to be shown off at Gamescom. Nevertheless, if you don't want it, don't buy it!!

maybe they started building the ship interiors and show 1-2 examples
expansion for December

Since walking around will only be 1st person too and no mulitplayer they don´t need to spend time on animating the pilot model (bascially a debug camera inside selected ships)

So we've heard that walking about in ships is a "long way off" but has floating about in ships been mentioned ? ;)

Can you imagine the griefing threads if boarding was implemented ?

"There's a cmdr xxxx hiding in my Type 9 somewhere and whenever im in the final phases of docking he springs up from nowhere and smacks me in the back of the head, wiggles the joystick and floats off back down the corridor laughing his backside off ! "

You're confusing trolling, griefing, and damn good gameplay.

Walking up behind the pilot and smacking him in the head and running off would be trolling.

Walking up behind the pilot and killing him, floating back through space to your own ship and then blowing that player's ship to hell would be griefing.

Walking up behind the pilot and killing him and stealing his ship to sell on the black market for a hefty profit is just damn good gameplay.

I'd be perfectly happy if they announced that every space station would have a viewing bay, internal and external, complete with one of those big, mounted binoculars you see at the sea-side. Other than that, passengers and the like would be nice.

All of the above is damn good gameplay ! ;)

Additional galaxies ? Colossal !

Ooh... now you say it... this would be suitably 'out of left field' and also literally and figuratively colossal...

I had my money on planetary landing slated for Dec... but now I'm not so sure...

It would also be hilarious as I can barely imagine the howls of outrage from the PvP players.

Anything related to PL would be 1st phase, and that would be just fine. Then we are on track and look forward to the next hype.

I don't think it would be anything like wingmen and updating the interstellar phenomena graphics, however there is a possibility that is is all included in the next patch.
This game is huge in scope, the true gameplay we emerge when you can play freely between ship, station and ground. Then we will see the stories of Han Solo come to life again.

My personal evaluation so far.

1. The Sound scape is one of the best I've even heard in any game, a true marvel to be behold.
2. Graphics are ok, the textures are standard pleasant to look at, however not as the same standard as the sound.
3. Flight model is great, still room for improvements however rock solid.
4. Trading, need more depth, FD just need to look at some of the new trading tools like the trading computer add-on as a good example of what is needed.
5. Mining, room for improvements, maybe dedicated mining ships or larger mining platforms would make it more fun. We clearly need a more fleshed out gameplay in that direction.
6. Combat, I think we got a lot of focus here, as I don't do much combat I can't evaluate this part of the game.

My hope for the future would be more detailed graphics, sometimes it look like very low poly or very low in details compared to what we see in new games today.
together with the development of the areas where we need a more fleshed out gameplay. I don't expect the sound to be any better, I really don't know how they can improve it further?

I'm sure you would win, Han Solo thinks a parsec is a measurement of time! Silly Han.

Actually, Han Solo made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs. In the Star Wars universe, this means he was able to come up with a shorter hyperspace route than the others. The Kessel region has many black holes in it (the Maw cluster of black holes), and in the Star Wars univese these are major navigational hazards, most people navigate around them for safety. (See point 3 of http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kessel_Run)

Yeah that's the expanded universe explanation, made up to retcon the fact that the original writers didn't know what a parsec was! :)
