Combat Loggers...    how many are there!!!! What kind of punishment do they receive and when?

Aggressive interactions are part of the normal, expected game experience, Frontier advertises them on the store page and explicitely provided tools for them. When you take part in them you are not interfering with the experience of other users since they agreed to consider these interactions part of their experience when they bought the game. That would be like claiming being forced to pay other players in Monopoly when you stop on their streets is interfering with your experience.

It interferes. End of line. Whether you think it should be expected is beside the point.
The same way that I would guess 90% of "combat logging" is caused by Windows being crap, and therefore to be expected.

One last comment: I played MP games for over ten years as well (both casual and semi professional) and I have never experienced that quitting a game was considered an exploit. When my team forced our enemies to leave the server because they had no chance of winning anymore we always gave us a pat on the back instead of reporting them to the league administration.

And how many of these games punished you for the fact the enemy team left?
If a wanted target combat logs on you, you've lost time, hull integrity, ammo and the potential bounty.
When a prey escape a pirate, the pirate has lost time, hull integrity, ammo and the potential booty.

How would you feel if NPCs started combat logging? How would you feel if the goods in your cargo racks randomly dissapeared as you were about to sell them?

I see, so you're the person who refuses to stop on other player's properties in Monopoly. Why do you play multiplayer games again?

In the EULA, Section 4, it states:

"4.4 You may not use the Game or any Online Features in a manner that could damage, disable, impair, overburden or compromise our systems or security or interfere with the experience of other users of the Game or any Online Feature."

As users who Combat Log "interfere with the experience of other users of the Game", the act of Combat Logging is therefore proscribed by the EULA.

Good luck with that particular interpretation of the EULA, to me personally I feel it is referring to the use of LagSwitches or DDOS attacks on the P2P architecture but hey if you think it is to do with combat logging we are all entitled to our opinon

For me leaving an unwanted situation you yourself (the player) was subjected to by the interdicting CMDR(s) - it is their own gameplay style i.e PVP, that interferes with my game.
Quid pro quo as others have already said the actual use of a Frameshift drive interdictor on a fellow commander should result in a ban as it is specifically designed to "interfere with the experience of other users of the Game"

Correct?

In Monopoly, rules are decided upon by ... and this is the thing... ALL Parties... before the game begins.
In ED, I expect other pilots to behave like civilised human beings. If they decide not to, it interferes with my game, that I paid for. I mean sure, you're more than welcome to spoil my game for me, IF and ONLY IF you're willing to reimburse me for the time I've spent on the game, plus any monies I've spent on it, including but not limited to graphics cards, HOTAS setups, the game + DLCs and the alcohol I've needed in order to put up with the nonsensical tripe that people post on the forums.

More importantly, how do I get punished in real life if I choose to stay in game instead of leaving?

My lunch gets cold, the dog craps on the carpet, my wife leaves me and I lose my job ;)
I understand your point though, however it's very difficult to adress the problem. Frontier cannot ban people for a bad internet connection or computer crash. You cannot get the bounty if someone leaves the game because it would be exploitable (just call a friend, get a bounty, attack him and he leaves the game = free credits). The best solution is (as I pointed out several times in this thread) a private group where you kick everyone who doesn't play by your rules.

According to David Braben Elite Dangerous is not about PvP.

And now there is an ED Affiliate and well known streamer clearly Combat Logging during a livestream because he didnt understand the mechanics of silent running
I wonder if they will decide to act punitively against this particular "high profile" CMDR

Just google reddit and elite dangerous and have a watch!

Be interesting to see how they handle this with one of their own!!

Privately - as with every case.

Please. No more posts about this incident. They will be treated as witch-hunting.

Would it be treated as witch-hunting when I defend his action? For example by stating that he was in his own private group where we are allowed to make our own rules...?

Within the last 2 days I've met 7 already Hudson (fluff-wise, [the Empire fanatics now will giggle I guess and get some moral or courage back, fluff-wise again]) Combat Loggers in a total of 12 interdictions made/received. And I do wonder..... ?

Why Commanders play in Open if they will Combat Log in the first place? Why don't they go in solo or private groups where they deserve to be? They must have a very unstable phychological profile to do so, because it really does not make any sense to me...or stupid or smthg.

My player group of course, as well as others (Empire/Alliance/Federation-leaning fluff wise) do put their names in KoS or hunt them down ofc. But I do still wonder... ?

I'd like you to put your thoughts in this ongoing plague for ED/H, and please if someone could remind me, what kind of punishment do they receive from FD? I remember it's shadow-ban or smthg, right? Does that take place from very first report?

If we take a look on FDs behavior in general, I guess that it could take some time for implementing punishment, (or maybe warning or smthg). We all know how busy they are with adding content and fixing stuff, and replying to bug reports etc, and it is partly, indeed, understandable. And I do remember FD staff saying that they "take combat logging, very seriously".

As a suggestion though, I'd really hope to see that FD opens up a bit of information concerning this matter. Why not publish names and punishments? Why not, us players reporting, getting some information concerning the "hacker", we have met and reported?

The combat logging will stay so long as long griefers can engage without consequences pretty much in every supposed to be save space.....

You want to say more?

Go cry first to FD why your pvp actions not get punished by engaging commanders in high security space..... After this change come back and we will share your thoughts .

there is discussion about making human interaction more punishing for the attacker vs weaker opponents.
But it wont stop the cheaters cheating. (combat loggers)
Not sure why combat loggers even bother playing to be honest. they obviously dont like the game. quite a few combat log to npc's so probably should go play the sims, but i bet they have cheats for that too.

If anybody disconnects during a legit match up then it's unacceptable. If somebody disconnects because some trouble maker takes them to within a few seconds of losing 20+million in insurance then I don't blame them. I have have an Anaconda and recently got faced up against a wing of 3 verbally tough players. I think the main guy didn't want the fight because I'd have melted his small wingmen within seconds (hopefully).

Had they attacked and cost me insurance, I'd have paid for it, but I don't blame people who do disconnect the second these people interdict them. I don't doubt had I not had the Anaconda and was flying in something smaller that I'd have been attacked.

Combat logging is wrong, but it shouldn't be punishable unless it's clear abuse.

Can I also add that with this game throwing some unfair moments at us too, such as with the constant NPC ships ramming us when coming to scan (which has killed me a couple of times), coupled with some serious glitches sometimes, like the auto docking crashing your ship, I don't think it's fair to outright call some people cheaters unless it's clear they're disconnecting constantly in OPEN during a legit match up.

Otherwise some people who might not have the time to accumulate the sufficient surplus insurance funds would rather not lose the chunk of cash they're limited window for gaming time allows. Some people probably want to enjoy elite and not treat it as a diehard simulation when they cannot invest the time.

This is just my guess and my sympathy with regards to how some people might play and I stress again that punishment should only be for those who continually disconnect during a fair and legit match up in OPEN Play.

Still going on about it? Obviously they don't want to play with the likes of you. Why don't you leave them be and move on?

A rather negligible loss. Compare that to the time lost, the in-game money lost, mission progress lost of a guy who gets attacked involuntarily. Is that time spent worth less? Are those credits worth less?

I say no.

You shouldnt be able to log off in combat, period. If the player pulls the pin, the ship should stay online for 5 minutes as punishment for cheating.
