What I don't understand is how we have a 30+ page thread which I'm sure isn't the first or last that can be literally boiled down to two positions:
Pro-chreating
And
Anti-cheating
And for some reason the anti-cheating side is being characterized as more evil than Mojo Jojo. It's utterly bizarre and a fascinating window into how twisted a victim complex is.
I've literally never seen anything like this in any other game, or at least not on such a massive scale.
Most people are anti-cheating.
Most people here are anti-exploit too
Most people here think Combat Logging is wrong.
I'm one of them.
I also think there are exceptions since you NEVER know what's going on behind your victim's screen.
I also think that it is the LEAST of exploits in this game and considerably less important than the issue of ganking.
I'll tell you a funny story about a CL incident that happened to me... last night in fact.
I was in a RES, bounty hunting in my Vulture.
I was fighting an Anaconda and had it down to about 2% hull (not really important but...) and was only lightly damaged myself.
It was an NPC only, but I was looking at a nice juicy bounty claim.
And then
I was staring at my desktop and unable to log back in.
In your eyes, I just combat logged.
In mine, I just lost a nice juicy bounty claim.
I think, before this turns into a galaxy wide witch-hunt, FD need to fix their net-code, which is not as simple as many would like to believe...
They also need to fix Windows, and enforce a guaranteed never-crash uptime on ALL ISPs and router manufacturers, which is somewhat more difficult.
Once you can prove that there was no CTD or unintended disconnection, then you can start accusing.
Innocent until proven guilty, remember? Here it seems the other way around.
