Hello all,
As a bounty hunter it's a pleasure to me shooting NPCs, looking to get these condas wrecked, cashing in large amounts of money and trying to get better at what I like most: ruining the day of a criminal.
Recently, however, I jumped into my AspX (armed with 4x lightweight plasma slug railguns, just incase) to do the Palin unlock travel several thousand lightyears away from the bubble. This was the first time I went further away than guardian space and it was sometimes boring, sometimes interesting. I found a ringed 100% metal landable planet, discovered not a single earthlike world and almost ran out of fuel in the middle of a huge cluster of brown dwarves.
Now, all of this is just fine, I had al ot of time to think, and what I asked myself was: What if we combine exploration and combat in a new mission type?
Right now all bounty hunting, conflict zone and even thargoid hunting activities are placed really closely to or inside the bubble. But what if someone would pay me a huge sum to move 5kly away and catch a criminal that is on his way to colonia. Or to root out a pirate gang that is planning to build a base far away from civilization to do long-distance raids on some sectors or interrupt explorers? In my opinion combat exploration could become quite interesting.
Not only would it require us to use a very distinct ship loadout, but we also wouldn't be able to rely on weapons with very low ammo pools too much unless I have the means to synthesize or acquitre synth mats. It would pose a new challenge to experienced players because they have to move away from the comfiness of their Bounty hunting system that has all the necessary services to repair, refuel and restock a damaged ship. Jump range and combat fitting would have to be weighted against each other.
Exploration-combat would offer a mission type that that requires committment and the will to risk something for a huge load of mats/credits, and encourage players to fly outside of civilized space to maybe stumble upon a new discovery.
What do you guys think?
