Newcomer / Intro Commodity issues and pre-discovered systems/stars

If you can't be bothered why do you reply? Would bored people, game defenders, people who don't know an answer please refrain from replying here? I would really appreciate real answers if someone has helpful information. Thank you.

Your snooty reply is a disgrace. I certainly will not be offering anything else for you. Maybe English is not your first language but anyone reading my words would understand I meant I couldn't be bothered with Odyssey at the moment (due to its issues). So basically you can get lost now, especially as I actually loaded Oddity this evening to check this out just to fully answer you. I'd rather have a red-hot poker stuck up my posterior than tell you the result now.

@OP I've always used eddb to find my commodities for this specific reason. It will tell you the system, the station, the distance to system in LY, the distance to the station in LS, the cost, the amount available and how old the info is. You can filter it by all sorts of variable filters like horizon/Odyssey, fleet carriers, space stations, ground stations and so on. Honestly I'm surprised that as many responses as there are and this hasn't been said yet
(my highlighting above)
That is what makes the info on EDDB so potentially informative. If data is old, the likelihood that stock reported is no longer accurate is far greater. EDDB is really one of the very good 3rd-party tools for ED out there!

My apologies for totally misreading yet another post.

Unfortunately it is many years since I bought a ship solely relying on the in-game information, I have been doing virtual builds of new purchases using one of the third party tools, Coriolis.io https://coriolis.io/outfit/sidewinder, since just after I started so if there was a way to find the information in-game I have long forgotten it.
Not a problem and thx for that site info, I'll take a look at it.

This^^

Of course after a few times per ship I don't have to look anymore. It is kind of stupid that fdev makes players rely on 3rd party sites in this manner. But it's awesome that these sites exist seeing as fdev can't be bothered to put this kind of information in the game themselves
After some weeks of playing the game I came to realize that FDev makes certain decisions to lengthen the game artficially, maybe to create bigger online presence by the players. Not showing ship info is insanely stupid and can't be explained with space travel, distances and such - it's just artificial hardship. Another point is that you don't save engineers' specialties and costs in your ship's system after visiting and unlocking them. That forces lazy players like me who don't want to write down such information for each engineer or create their own excel charts for a video game to revisit those specialists again and again just to be reminded of what they have to offer. Again, this can't be explained with the game's setting - in fact, the setting speaks against such a hardship as every ship has its own computer which can save all kinds of data.
And about the map being a PITA, I guess it's just more of the same. To make it clear, I do actually like that space distances mean something and I do welcome the fact that you can't check out all prices without having visited the systems or from thousands of lightyears away. But as in my case I was in close proximity to those highlighted systems which I had visited before, that just doesn't add up.
I guess if those people want their game to be only half good, that's their decision. Which is easy for me to say since I got it for free...

If I got you wrong, sorry. I hope the Victorian nobleman can get over it. If not, have fun with your red hot poker...

There is basic information about the Engineers available in your cockpit and the remote engineering capability available at many stations will show you the requirements for the current stage on any pinned blueprint you have for a currently fitted module.

The almost total lack of hand holding in the game is as I remember frustrating when starting out but after a couple of years of frequent play becomes less of an issue.

Yeah, as you said: the cockpit info is very basic as in it won't show you all their specializations which is plain stupid after you visit/unlock them. I am also aware of blueprints but again, they only show you one of many options. All that means that whenever you buy a new ship, you have to do the roundtrip again.

Hand holding is not at all what I was or am talking about here. I don't expect games like ED to hold my hand. But artificially blocking the players from keeping the info they've already got is just not my cup of tea. I get that it has to be hard to hear of engineers or even more so to get to them or unlock them. But not storing info on a space ship is just moronic and brutally forcing people to start excel charts. Which players like me won't. From here, it's one of three options for the kind like me: 1. 3rd party sites; 2. round trip; 3. buh-bye ED.

I just don't understand such gameplay decisions, they seem senseless...
