Community guests at FD HQ on 27th for Q4 news

A question comes to mind...

Why is one group of people invited to HQ, shown some dandy stuff, but not allowed to talk about it?

Surely if the stuff is that great, FDev should be showing us ALL?? I mean a few screen shots to whet the appetite?

I know personally, I'm still waiting on the 'amaze-balls' stuff from the first guest-invite...

Buying good will from the people who they know will reach substantial portions of the community once the features are out.
Basically fertilizing the ground for a positive reception, or at least increasing the odds for a positive reception.
It's about PR, not about sharing info with the community at large.

That was just my opinion mate. Should i make a disclaimer forum post for my forum post just for you dude?

no. but since you voice your opinion on a public forum you should expect comments.

there are no 'representatives' of the player base. at least that i know of. that leaves your opinion a bit hanging? just that.

Good god alimighty, is znôrt still going?

Ho hum, it was fun until the dementors turned up, hope people found the little info that I could share interesting. Like I said at the beginning, I'm wary of overhyping things but what we saw on Thursday looked really excellent and there was a heck of a lot to see. Good job FD, I can't wait to try it all out for real!

This isnt democracy, its a gaming company. They will invite specific people and they expect positive ground from them for PR reasons. We must get from that anything they throw at us and i personally (i said personally ok?) believe that we can treat them as our representatives, since they are players like us. They play the game and they generally know what is good for us and the game.
If you expect for the company to ask us prior the event, in order for us to select some people.. well what can i say.. good luck.
Just have in mind that in that case people like me could eventually go and that would be a disaster lol.

Ofc all this is just academic, as this took place way too late for any serious changes to happen, but hey.. lets keep the positive vibes flowing.

Apparently they invited them over to also take some feedback from them as players. While at this point Frontier has completely lost my trust, the same is not happening with the players and i personally value THEIR opinion. Whether Frontier takes that feedback seriously and for once they do the neccessary changes, or it was for once more a simple hype/pr event, that we will have to see in the near future.
The players that were invited, i think now have the responsibillity to inform us after the Q4 release, IF what was released is a bit different here and there from what they saw, and if the changes trully came from the feedback of this event.

Well at least that would be my No1 priority (to monitor afterwards), in order to honor that invitation, but towards the playerbase and not the company. For me, those people invited are OUR representatives and it would be nice if they cover us in every aspect, not only in pre-hype/release period.

Again thanks to all the players that went and voiced our concerns and suggestions to make this game better.

What they can tell us afterwards will depend entirely on the NDA they signed. It may be time-limited so when 4.0 drops they can spill all the beans, or it may be in perpetuity.

Yes, and the optimists were already optimistic. As I wrote above, this would have made sense if the people invited were journalists that need a few days to get a story through the editorial process, and were going to release their stories at the same time as 3.3 releases. What happened does not make sense at all, in fact it makes it seem like there's some sort of favoritism involved (which is not actually the case, OA at least has always tried to be impartial)

But there are people who were undecided who for them this info might have helped.

You are very right about this and i honestly hope that they are free to talk about the upcoming update AFTER its release. At least to tell us what was the actions taken concerning their feedback, and that ofc is IF some actions with actual meaning happened and not some small changes, for the sake of pretending they have listened.

I think people need to chill and put aside their feelings - jealousy (that they weren't invited) and impatience (wanting to know what's coming in C4 now!) - and recognise that this event was just focused feedback from a group of people who interact with a large part of the community, so Frontier can make adjustments if needed before showing the update to everyone.

I am sure many people here have done something similar in the past (or will do) in their personal lives. They create something, whether it's a song, story, painting, computer program, 3d model etc. and before showing it to a large crowd (e.g. group of friends) they show it to their brother, sister, parent or best mate.

I don't see what the big deal is that a game company is doing something similar that many of us do.

It makes perfect sense, considering that every time Frontier do a live stream about an update, most of the comments in the chat are not about the update being shown, but questions like "When is space legs coming?" and "What about atmospheric planets?". How are Frontier supposed to get good feedback about the update being shown when they have to sift through hundreds of irrelevant comments?

By showing Chapter 4 to a small group first to get their reactions and feedback before showing it to everyone it makes the whole process much more efficient and it saves the company money so the money can be used in more useful ways, like paying developer's salaries.

So... chill... we will see what's coming in Chapter 4 very shortly. :)

Yes makes sense.

But one or two concept art could appease our torments

:)

Sigh. Reading through this thread has been a deeply, deeply depressing experience......one that makes me long for the CivFanatics & BattleTech forums-both of which have far fewer salty posters.

I'm not going to pretend that I've not had issues with some of Frontier's design decisions or the pace of development, but as someone who has been here since before December 2014 I can still say that I've gotten more hours of enjoyment out of this game than any other, & the few small tidbits of info I've seen make me feel confident that 3.3 will be a fantastic step forward for the game as a whole, & the game itself has most definitely matured greatly since its first release.

Like Mengy, though, I do hope the exploration update goes further than just the ways we scan solar systems. I've been saying for a while now that the galaxy needs more naturally occurring dangers, as well as the ability to reap rewards from taking certain risks (like my ideas for fast fuel scooping or using your ship to do the same job as a probe). I also want to see the ability to use a form of "echo-location" to detect objects on planetary surfaces & within USS's.

As for hype, I find its best to manage expectations-hence why I have never felt any major disappointment about any of the updates over the last 3-4 years......& why I refuse to resort to the kind of toxic negativity I am seeing here.
