ANNOUNCEMENT Community Update (22/10)

Oh well, I guess I'd better fit in the couple of things on my exploration todo list pretty quick...

Frontier caves to content producers, influencers and a minority signing a petition without (allegedly) duplicate prevention... Reckon the game will be dictated by The Yamix and SDC from now on... Shame FD didn't have the stones to tell them where to shove their 'open letter'...

I suppose I should be grateful for bug-fixes in this bugged mess everyone talks about...

It maybe so that it's better for the game in the long run but it doesn't change the fact that once again they have disappointed me over the FC uodate. This is the second time it was promised and delayed for a long period of time. Fool me once, your fault, fool me twice , my fault. I will NOT be spending one solitary penny on this game until they start keeping their promises. As for the "promised" but fixes......I'll believe it when I see it.....

They didn't me either.... $65 I think I paid.
Personally of all the stuff CIG sell there is 1 thing and 1 thing only which irks me a bit.... The land. Everything else (until I know otherwise) is people choosing to pay money to spoil the game by removing all sense of achievement.

To each their own howdver

The amount that you personally got fleeced for is entirely irrelevant. You paid $65 for a not-game. Elite, at least, had something from the gate. Tortoise and the hare.

Greetings Commanders,

Following the launch of the September Update last month, we’d like to provide you all with an update on our plans for Elite Dangerous.

Firstly, thank you for all of your feedback on the September Update, which you've shared with us on the forums, across social media, on livestreams and through the Issue Tracker. There is no doubt that, in addition to the new features, the September Update introduced a number of issues and bugs which caused a lot of frustration. We are really sorry for these issues. We realise that some of the issues had an impact on your ability to enjoy Elite Dangerous. The team have been working hard to address the most critical issues and have already released a series of patches and updates to bring those fixes in as quickly as possible.

However, we know there's more to be done. You've asked for more focus on existing bug/fixes and issues, and for the community to be better integrated into the development process and testing for these upcoming updates.

In order to improve your overall experience, we have decided to refocus our efforts on addressing key issues and bugs. Since the launch of the September Update, we've been taking a deeper look at our internal development roadmap, the way in which we utilise public betas, and the content of our next updates.

Here is a summary of our plans:
  • From now and into next year (2020), the updates will focus almost exclusively on addressing recent and longstanding issues, including those reported in the Issue Tracker, ultimately making the game better.
  • We are expecting to have a series of these updates, which will be rolled out (approximately) every three to four months.
  • Each update will also include a public beta that will run prior to the update's release, with a dedicated time to address major issues that appear.
  • The first of these updates will have its public beta in December, with an expectation that the launch will be early in 2020.
As a result of our updated plans, we have made the difficult decision to defer the release of Fleet Carriers. We are now planning for Fleet Carriers to be released in an update in the second quarter of 2020, rather than in December 2019 as previously stated. This will grant us additional time to refine the feature as well as focusing time on addressing existing reported issues. It will also ensure the state of the game is in a better position to introduce Fleet Carriers, that will provide Commanders even more opportunities to interact with the Milky Way. We understand that this delay will be disappointing for some players, but do know that this decision is one that we do not take lightly, and is made with the best interests of the community and game at heart.

Ultimately, we are confident that this will improve the Elite Dangerous experience for all our players.

The team have been hard at work on the next major milestone, which you may remember we mentioned back in March as our next major paid addition to the game. They’re making fantastic progress and on schedule for release by the end of next year. We are very excited to show you what we’ve been working on. However, we can only announce the content when it’s at the right stage of development, we estimate this will be ready to talk about at some time in summer 2020, after the Fleet Carriers update. We appreciate there is a bit of a wait, but we want to make sure it is ready to be shown before making our full official announcement to the world.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing and continued support and for helping give us the feedback, steer and insight to make decisions that will benefit the entire community and for your continued passion and dedication.
I'm actually glad that this is being done. It's foolish to build on flawed foundations and this great game deserves better. Thank you for putting aside that which satisfies the instant gratification impulse to focus on attention to detail, polish and elevated quality. I for one am grateful, having been one who voiced support for taking this kind of course since September.

Thanks to all at FD 👍

Love what you do, but it's always good to stand back, take a good look and have a think. If you guys think this is the best way forward for ED in the long term then I'm all for it 👍

Thanks for all your hard work and creating the best game I've ever played. Keep up the good work, ignore the nay-sayers and keep doing your thing. The real fans of ED know the score!

Thanks again to all at FD! 😁👍

Sad news about carriers but at least we know everything goes as planned with the New Era.

Seriously?

You actually believe they are capable of releasing their largest expansion ever on time?

Even though its been 26 months since the fleet carrier update was announced...thats been delayed 3 times...and they cant even patch the existing game without breaking it?

I'll have some of those magic mushrooms youre on dude.

I think this is the right decision. It's far too common for developers to focus on shiny new attention-grabbing content updates instead of fixing longstanding issues, so good on you.

Its a pure bug and failure of game design.
A bug is typically some unexpected result that happens after some code runs. This is working as designed.

Failure of game design? Sure. There are several things in the game that fall in that category. Some would say the entire mode system is a failure of game design. I'd argue the way wings get paid is a failure of game design. If I do a wing mission solo, I should get 4x the pay. Not a bug - but failed logic in the way it was designed. I hope they address it during this downtime.

What you could do is release some footage of what you're up to via a third party and then say, you know, for the record, "We know nothing!"

Very dissapointing on more delays to content.

Obvious public beta's should of been implemented on every patch, they were a big success in the past and lets be honest the quality of the ones without have been very poor. Feels like time has been wasted fixing things that could of been avoided if we had public tests from the start.

The month old fleet carrier reveal video release date on youtube is already out of date.

And It's far too common for some developers to say "I am fixing so many issue(I created) alone. So I have no time now." instead of keeping their words, too.

Thank you Will for the update. Thank you Dev team for listening to the players. Now, let's see you deliver. I for one will not be paying for any more expansions or cosmetics till you guys bring up the level of development. The public beta's are a start. Now lets see you fix the bugs that crop up in a timely fashion.

I don't think it's a far stretch to say this is your last shot for a lot of people.
