I've had neither reason nor want to whine about anything up to now, and nothing has changed.
Game continues to rock, and I love the adventure you provide me.
Cheers FDev to the whole team.

Community - WE WANT MORE CONTENT!!

Frontier - Ok here's more content
Community - BUT WHERE ARE THE BUG FIXES?! WE'RE WAITING!!
Frontier - Ok, we're going to concentrate on Bug Fixes and will delay the content slightly
Community - NO WE WANT CONTENT!
Repeat ad nauseum. The Developers lot is rarely a happy one.

But wait: Was the whole year 2019 not planned as "quality of life updates and bug-fixing"? This was the reason why most of the people accept "waiting for new content". But now - at the end of 2019 the only major update for this year is again(!) delayed upto 6 more month... Great :). It's nice to carebear FD sometimes but sometimes it's also time to critizize them and point the finger on their mistakes.

Tough call to make, but I believe this is ultimately the right path to take.

I imagine player enthusiasm will return once the game has been given the TLC it deserves. Hope the team will carry on fine in the meantime.

A plus side is this does mean more time to let 'future content' projects 'slow-cook' while they're on the back burner, so to speak.

sure, soon as they start doing open Xbox beta's.
I know it used to be almost impossible to do a beta on a release game on XB. Something with a lot of hoops or restrictions to jump through that really made it not possible. Maybe they can look into something like PUBG’s PTS or similar? I haven’t followed that since I mostly moved back over to PC again.

2019 was for QoL updates, some bug fixing, and content, not just bug fixing, or primarily bug fixing as far as I was aware.

No citation then?

- Season 1 updates (1.0, 1.1 CG , 1.2 Wings, 1.3 PP, 1.4 CQC and 1.5 Ships) were all on target except the CQC update which had a month or so delay IIRC.

- 2.0 announced in August 2015 for December 2015, released on December 2015: On target

- 2.1 announced for Spring 2016, released on May 2016: On target

- 2.2 announced for Summer 2016 (ends 21 September), released on October 2016: 1 month gap (1.5 month as a compromise if you use methereological calendar)

- 2.3 announced for Fall 2016 (ends in 21st December), released April: 4 months gap (4.5 month as a compromise if you use methereological calendar)

- 2.4 no release date announced in original roadmap. Was actually announced on June 2017 for Q3 release that year: On target. Even if FDEV had announced in the original roadmap a 2.4 for "Winter", ending in March, which it had not, the gap would have been at most 6 months, or 6.5.

- Beyond was even more on the mark with all 4 episodes on target in 2018 as per their original roadmap.

- And from the current patch sequence in 2019, promised in 3-4 month intervals, the first one this year in April has been on target aswell and September 1 month late (when compared to 4 months per update).

I have no idea how the community feels about fleet carriers. Personally I was never enthusiastic and saw it as a potential for chaos.
But we know the community have become disenfranchised with the lack of testing. Basic things, like the mouse not working with the interface, and buggy mission boards. These are things that should have been picked up.
This is a good decision, and I see it as a triumph of service quality over avarice.

Now please make PowerPlay open-only.

Greetings Commanders,

Following the launch of the September Update last month, we’d like to provide you all with an update on our plans for Elite Dangerous.

Firstly, thank you for all of your feedback on the September Update, which you've shared with us on the forums, across social media, on livestreams and through the Issue Tracker. There is no doubt that, in addition to the new features, the September Update introduced a number of issues and bugs which caused a lot of frustration. We are really sorry for these issues. We realise that some of the issues had an impact on your ability to enjoy Elite Dangerous. The team have been working hard to address the most critical issues and have already released a series of patches and updates to bring those fixes in as quickly as possible.

However, we know there's more to be done. You've asked for more focus on existing bug/fixes and issues, and for the community to be better integrated into the development process and testing for these upcoming updates.

In order to improve your overall experience, we have decided to refocus our efforts on addressing key issues and bugs. Since the launch of the September Update, we've been taking a deeper look at our internal development roadmap, the way in which we utilise public betas, and the content of our next updates.

Here is a summary of our plans:
  • From now and into next year (2020), the updates will focus almost exclusively on addressing recent and longstanding issues, including those reported in the Issue Tracker, ultimately making the game better.
  • We are expecting to have a series of these updates, which will be rolled out (approximately) every three to four months.
  • Each update will also include a public beta that will run prior to the update's release, with a dedicated time to address major issues that appear.
  • The first of these updates will have its public beta in December, with an expectation that the launch will be early in 2020.
As a result of our updated plans, we have made the difficult decision to defer the release of Fleet Carriers. We are now planning for Fleet Carriers to be released in an update in the second quarter of 2020, rather than in December 2019 as previously stated. This will grant us additional time to refine the feature as well as focusing time on addressing existing reported issues. It will also ensure the state of the game is in a better position to introduce Fleet Carriers, that will provide Commanders even more opportunities to interact with the Milky Way. We understand that this delay will be disappointing for some players, but do know that this decision is one that we do not take lightly, and is made with the best interests of the community and game at heart.

Ultimately, we are confident that this will improve the Elite Dangerous experience for all our players.

The team have been hard at work on the next major milestone, which you may remember we mentioned back in March as our next major paid addition to the game. They’re making fantastic progress and on schedule for release by the end of next year. We are very excited to show you what we’ve been working on. However, we can only announce the content when it’s at the right stage of development, we estimate this will be ready to talk about at some time in summer 2020, after the Fleet Carriers update. We appreciate there is a bit of a wait, but we want to make sure it is ready to be shown before making our full official announcement to the world.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing and continued support and for helping give us the feedback, steer and insight to make decisions that will benefit the entire community and for your continued passion and dedication.
SERIOUS QUESTION
Will this new content release setback affect the release date set for content that was stated to be released for late 2020? If what is being said now will push 2019's content in to mid 2020, I feel it's safe to assume it would push back the timetable for everything else.

I wonder what features will be cut to save time so it can be ready by adjusted promise time.

I just love the irony of the fact, that patch with long overdue tutorial and new currency put this game in a state where a lot of people don't want to buy it, play it or spend any money on it.

I just hope that when I play this game next year I will be able to fly through space without conflict zones warnings out of nowhere and enjoy some PvP in open-only Power Play.

The introduction of ARX broke a lot of aspects of the game, and I'm glad that the development team is taking the time to fix those issues instead of devoting all of their time to the new update. As players we are excited for the new updates like Fleet Carriers, but it's not fun if the game is broken at the same time. Take the time to make sure that current gameplay is up to par before spending time on the new developments. (y)

I have it on good authority that Open Only is never coming. That is the only way to truly fix PP, in my opinion.

At this point any update is better than leaving it as it is. Just staying silent strings people along really after the amount of opinion expressed over it.

In trade, I don't suppose we could get an update on mechanics, costs and general game play features around Fleet Carriers before then?
