Communtiy asks for more effort to 'fix' things.
Where does said communtiy think that effort will come from out of a full dev schedule?

Wait, how is that 6 months? Would it be 3 months. Doesn't the first update for the year come out in the second quarter? like April-May-June Quarter??

Fleet carriers was supposed to be like 1/5 of the 3.3 update. For me that's a small content update.
Greetings Commanders,

As part of pre-production, the team investigate all areas of the content and scope them out thoroughly. It’s important to take the time to be clear on what the vision for this is and how we imagine the content working. During this process, we have made a decision to adjust the focus of content that were previously planned for the Chapter Four update, adding some significant new gameplay, but it also means some other aspects will have to change. This means that some elements of content such as Ice Planets (which many of you will have seen some fantastic progress updates from LaveCon earlier this year) and Fleet Carriers for squadrons will not be coming as part of the Beyond – Chapter Four update. Some of the technology from the ice planets specifically will be used within our wider and global visual upgrade, so there will still be general improvements, but not everything we originally envisaged. However, we wanted you to be aware that these two elements specifically would be reprioritised out of the upcoming Beyond - Chapter Four update. What this does mean is that the rest of the content will be able to benefit for the changes in scheduling through deeper and richer gameplay mechanics. The Chapter Four update still has the same, if not bigger scope and continues to promise the largest update of the Beyond season and a truck load of great features for all Horizons Commanders for free. We’re very excited to be sharing the details with you over the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more info.

As you will see, they lied about their priorities

There are currently 4480 open issues in the issue tracker with 118 of them as "confirmed and acknowledged". Can we get a list of the order in which you expect to be fixing them and a time table for the fixes?

I think it's great you are focused on getting the long standing stuff right. Fleet Carriers never interested me anyway. But 2 operational NPC's on my ship and in my SLF's are all I want. Infact an entire overhaul of the NPC system is desperately required. Beginning with putting them in cockpit seats.

I think this is fantastic news and the best choice Frontier could make. Focus entirely on existing problems and do not introduce new features that would probably contribute to more unseen problems and create even more frustration for both the developers and Cmdrs.

Thank you Frontier for listening!
This is the one aspect im interested in most for sure.

I'd actually like them to fix multicrew so you can do EVERYTHING you can do by yourself, I would very much like to SRV with a friend, installations, planetary exploration, etc.

Multicrew and the NPC crew experience should basically be reflective of each other, so that doing one gets you the feel for the other.

Maybe just maybe, they could potentially do something with the arena, I'd love a reason to play it, just no body plays it.

I'm curious what are these bugs that need fixing so badly that it requires a dev team of over 100 people to spend 6 months fixing?

forget bugs, they're just a symptom. the problem is the code is out of control. taking control back might require special people, or hours of study, and probably some refactor before even addressing any particular issue. and then make sure that control isn't lost again when the next guy moves on. then fix the bugs. actual order may vary, but that's what i would recommend. either case this requires time, actually much more time than what was gained with shortcuts and reckless planning leading to the present situation.

your confidence in them is another matter, but if this has to be done (and i think it should) it will take time, that's just how it is.

The skeptical side of me takes this as FD seeing an opporutnity though the demand on the forum to delay the content, and perhaps not being ready to deliver on the promised content, has spun this to delay the release of FCs, which possibly were not going to be ready for the deadline.
Seems to me this is the case. To be honest I find it pretty weird that a company changes its strategics because of an open letter made by the "community".

Hi Will,

Thanks for communicating to us. I'm glad to see there's a focus on bugs, and that you'll be implementing betas. I worry about the waning interest by a lot of players who have been with the game for a long time, which the delay in the carriers could exacerbate. To help address this, more than just bug fixes are required. I think FDev needs to be sure to seriously take into consideration some of the following:

  • Instancing and Blocking. Having Blocking prevent or hinder instancing will only help make instancing with other commanders harder. The Galaxy is already dreadfully empty, we don't need more tools to make it even emptier.
  • Somewhat related to above, increase incentive to fly in open. The game is better with player interaction.
  • Balance. These aren't "bugs", yet this really needs looking into. Some examples:
    • Hull / Bi-Weave Hybrid tanked ships being lackluster compared to shield tanked ships because of:
      • Engineering effects that apply only to hull and are very easy to use (examples: corrosive, scramble spectrum)
      • Canopy easily breaking from a lucky/unlucky shot
      • Weapons and Engines easily breaking from missiles that have ineffective countermeasures
    • Heavy Duty Shield Booster stacking. A ship should not require 5+ minutes of non-stop firing just to bring down it's shields
    • Completely useless modules/weapons (shock cannon as example)
  • Revisit and improve features like Powerplay, Multicrew, etc. These will need more than just bug fixes to properly address these areas.
I hope the new course is a step in the right direction for Elite. I really want this game to thrive.

Again, with due consideration that this might involve a refactor, plus they will continue working on other things in the meantime, and accepting there are many unaddressed bugs on the issue tracker, how many are so serious they require such focus?

You know me (ok, maybe you don't, let's do lunch), but i'm a big fan of ED and have been accused many times of fanboyism, but it all just seems far too conveninent.

In other news, LOL at everyone who spent the last few weeks/months grinding for billions of credits for a FC.
The 100 people are the entire development team for Elite Dangerous. We know that the majority of them is working on the new era stuff since 2018. So there are maybe 20 people working on the current stuff.

Where have we heard this before? Feels like déjà vu
Wasn't 2018 supposed to be about just bug fixes and quality of life improvements?
Sounds like a broken record
Do I need to say it......

Greetings Commanders,

Following the launch of the September Update last month, we’d like to provide you all with an update on our plans for Elite Dangerous.

Firstly, thank you for all of your feedback on the September Update, which you've shared with us on the forums, across social media, on livestreams and through the Issue Tracker. There is no doubt that, in addition to the new features, the September Update introduced a number of issues and bugs which caused a lot of frustration. We are really sorry for these issues. We realise that some of the issues had an impact on your ability to enjoy Elite Dangerous. The team have been working hard to address the most critical issues and have already released a series of patches and updates to bring those fixes in as quickly as possible.

However, we know there's more to be done. You've asked for more focus on existing bug/fixes and issues, and for the community to be better integrated into the development process and testing for these upcoming updates.

In order to improve your overall experience, we have decided to refocus our efforts on addressing key issues and bugs. Since the launch of the September Update, we've been taking a deeper look at our internal development roadmap, the way in which we utilise public betas, and the content of our next updates.

Here is a summary of our plans:
  • From now and into next year (2020), the updates will focus almost exclusively on addressing recent and longstanding issues, including those reported in the Issue Tracker, ultimately making the game better.
  • We are expecting to have a series of these updates, which will be rolled out (approximately) every three to four months.
  • Each update will also include a public beta that will run prior to the update's release, with a dedicated time to address major issues that appear.
  • The first of these updates will have its public beta in December, with an expectation that the launch will be early in 2020.
As a result of our updated plans, we have made the difficult decision to defer the release of Fleet Carriers. We are now planning for Fleet Carriers to be released in an update in the second quarter of 2020, rather than in December 2019 as previously stated. This will grant us additional time to refine the feature as well as focusing time on addressing existing reported issues. It will also ensure the state of the game is in a better position to introduce Fleet Carriers, that will provide Commanders even more opportunities to interact with the Milky Way. We understand that this delay will be disappointing for some players, but do know that this decision is one that we do not take lightly, and is made with the best interests of the community and game at heart.

Ultimately, we are confident that this will improve the Elite Dangerous experience for all our players.

The team have been hard at work on the next major milestone, which you may remember we mentioned back in March as our next major paid addition to the game. They’re making fantastic progress and on schedule for release by the end of next year. We are very excited to show you what we’ve been working on. However, we can only announce the content when it’s at the right stage of development, we estimate this will be ready to talk about at some time in summer 2020, after the Fleet Carriers update. We appreciate there is a bit of a wait, but we want to make sure it is ready to be shown before making our full official announcement to the world.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing and continued support and for helping give us the feedback, steer and insight to make decisions that will benefit the entire community and for your continued passion and dedication.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Seems to me this is the case. To be honest I find it pretty weird that a company changes its strategics because of an open letter made by the "community".

Lol yeah, they totally didn't.

Only the most naive of us would assume that a whingy letter would be enough for a multi-million pound company to change its policy.
They saw an opportunity..and they took it.
