No problem, my agreement was in the statement - it was Frontier's problem.
The problem was their implementation of the "Odyssey" vision.
Which is the biggest bone of contention - the alpha had performance issues, but all of the time those who were playing it were being given assurances by Arf that the version we had was 'old' and the release candidate was much better. Look at what was released, even the planetary tech was worse than alpha, not only the performance.
Something went amiss between the lead-up to the alpha (when videos were plugging all platforms) and the release, that
was as problem for Frontier, as well as players, as the expansion would not run acceptably on PCs with the published specs - it has improved, but not delivered the 'significant performance increases' we were told to expect.
Dr Ross had said thright up until the time she left Frontier they were working on EDO for consoles - to drop them is an admission that it could never be pared down enough to work on the last generation consoles, and current generation had never been on the roadmap.
Frontier still have a problem with EDO performance, it is better than it was, certainly, but still feels a long way in performance from Horizons... Possibly it is due to both new and reworked assets requiring higher specs than they anticipated, or something else entirely. But they are still working to improve the expansion, so no complaints from me.
