I think Corpsealot is a big windbag, alright, but when he talked about annihilating another player and just not getting any real satisfaction or fun from the event, that was exactly me.
I'm skilled enough to kill other players if I go out there with an aim to. I'm just completely underwhelmed by the act and consequently feel intruded upon and annoyed when it's foisted on me. I'd rather permit myself a pve-build ship I'm going to have fun in, and not have to deal with overpowered pvp-fit ships piloted by d-bags who want to foist their underwhelming gameplay on me.
And yet, Elite does not offer a social cooperative experience without the risk of d-bags. No, it's 'be d-bag bait or go solo'. It's a hurtful flaw for the game.
I guess it's not as bad as some pvp-centric games. In Ark players can actually immobilize other players, keep them alive, and feet them dinosaur feces. Now that is d-bag. But is it really so much more d-bag than being able to destroy several hours worth of another player's efforts at a whim in 4-1 gank fests?
