The reviews for the Corsair 400R case also state that it comes with zip-ties, stand offs, etc.

I have a similar Corsair case, and can confirm it came with ties. Moreover most of the cables can be routed through the void between the motherboard mounting plate and the case wall; there's about a 2/3 inch gap back there, and plenty of clever holes to allow things to feed to and fro. Mine is nearly cable free in the business area.

Only downside - careful of the top, it's open so anything small you drop in the room will obviously fail to act in a Newtonian manner and make directly for those vent holes. Map pins are a favourite.

I concur on the GPU advice. Currently I have a GTX760 and have experienced some issues on Rome Total War 2 at higher settings which I suspect the 770 or beyond wouldn't have.

Has anyone tried any of the new AMD Kaveri APU's with ED. Thinking about building a mini itx based on the A10 7850K & would like to know how it performs.

Small tip for anyone who is using a few components from an older machine as I have done, make sure you have the correct connector.
I am building a new PC but reusing an old case and drives. The case is fine and I remembered that the hard drive has sata since it is a sata only motherboard but forgot that I have to install windows 8 from dvd and my dvd player is only ide :)

Should I buy a sata dvd drive or an ide to sata adaptor?

best case i have seen or had in 20odd years of pc building (generally and in terms of silence) is the fractal 4r pcgh

it is silent, you will not hear it until you get the gtx 770 or 780 going and then it is ok.

my final built has same noise has my wife's ipad right now :D

Neither - use a USB flash drive...

Just upgrading my rig - yikes!

I've gone for a Z87HD3 Gigabyte motherboard with I5 4670K processor, a new corsair carbide series tower, plus a Dark rock pro 3 CPU cooler.

I already have 8GB of the appropriate DDR3 RAM, an 850W PSU and an MSI R9 280x Graphics card.

This way I should be able to stream HD in conjunction with my fibre order being delivered in 1-2 weeks.

Heavens! - this should future proof me for the next 3 years at least!

My system is 3 years old bar a 240 GB SSD and the Graphics card.

Intel i7 920 (Needs Upgrade)

12GB Ram (needs upgrade to 24GB)

Nvidia GTX 780Ti (This is fine)

Asus MB (need to change to support new chip and RAM)

I got a 1 year old
i7 3770K CPU
8GB Memory
GTX 670 Factory Overclocked GPU
500GB SSD

I think that should be fine maybe barring the graphic card.
Memory I'm told is pointless going over 8GB.

What graphics card would people recommend?

I don't think that you will have a problem with that system and 12GB ram will be plenty. It obviously depends on what other software you are going to use.

My son is running an i7 920 which is water cooled & massively overclocked to 4gHz - it's probably the best overclocking chip we've ever seen. GFX card is an R9 280X & his rig runs any game currently available at max settings.
Maybe you just need to invest in a liquid cooler & apply an overclock ?

Can My rig run Elite on at least medium settings?

Ok so here are my specs:

Intel Core i5-3570K CPU @3.40 GHz 3.80 Ghz. I personally think my processor is good enough for this game.

8 GB of RAM. I think this is enough, i could go upgrade to 12 if i wanted to but i dont think that will be needed.

Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 660 Ti 2 GB RAM. This is where im wondering. Do I absolutely need to upgrade my graphics card? Or do you guys think I will be able to play medium settings or even high with this card already.

I know theres system requirements already posted on website, but it think thats only for the Alpha. Advice on my PC, what do i need to upgrade the most if I need to upgrade anything, and what should I upgrade to if needed?

That setup should run E: D without problems with full GFX settings, at least up to 1920x1080.

I'm running a GTX 660 with i5 2500K @4.3gHz & I'm getting great frame rates at max settings, so your 660 Ti should be even better. :)
The 3570K isn't a hot chip, assuming you have an aftermarket cooler, so you might like to think about upping the clock a little more if you get any bottlenecking.

To me the system looks balanced, no urgent need to upgrade anything. In the Alpha User System Specs spreadsheet people with GTX 560ti & 'regular' 660 have reported good framerates @ 1920x1080 - medium settings you should have no worries, might even have good go at high settings.

So I received my beastly rig yesterday. Gave a friend who is a hardware development tech (works for one of the biggest IT companies and works directly with Intel and others) a blank cheque and told him to build me a machine that would max out Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen.

So yesterday I got back this:

16gig ram (he said only 8 was necessary but I said since ram is cheap...)
Intel i5 4670K
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H Motherboard
Gigabyte GTX 780ti overclocked
240gb SSD
2TB 7200rpm hd
Corsaid RM-1000 80 Plus Gold Power Supply
Blu Ray 16x writer
Antec P280 Black Super Mid Tower
Benq 27" 144hz gaming monitor

oh yeah ....and I bought my Saitek x52 Pro a couple of months ago.

I said put in an i7 .....really just because 7 is higher than 5 lulz .....he said no, he's not going to waste my money for no reason and that an i7 will show zero performance advantage for games in this rig ....he knows what he's talking about so I'll take his word for it.

So anyway, I've installed the Elite Alpha and the Star Citizen hanger module.

Elite Alpha runs with all sliders maxed out and at 144hz refresh rate ...and looks amazing. Not sure how to check frame rate but not even a hint at stutter. Silky smooth and gorgeous.

Star Citizen hanger module the same ....but that is just walking around a big box....still the graphics are razor sharp with insane clarity and again not a hint of stutter.

Was also quite impressed that the Saitek x52 Pro is preconfigured in Elite and just instantly works perfectly if you select the option to use it ..... can't figure out how to turn my head and look around though :D
