Concerning Type-7, Imperial Clipper and Federal Dropship.

There should be another stat connected to ship. Insurability. Any insurance salesman knows that Clipper pilots are taking more risks, speeds a lot more and is generally not as good clients as trustworthy old T-7 pilots. The Clipper should have 10% insurance rate and the T-7 a mere 2.5%. In general all combat ships should be costlier to insure since combat is a high risk endevour and trading ships should be cheaper. Multi-purpose would fit inbetween.

Maybe instead of buffing/nerfing any of the ship, their pricing should be reviewed. Maybe Type7 should be more like 11million, FDS should be 15million and clipper stays at 23million.
Alternately, if ships need buffing/nerfing, I would think the FDS could get the rumored 2 small weapons mounts added and it's price kept as is, but I really do think the type7 is too expensive for what it offers.

This instead of buffing, price tweaks would be necessary besides buffing the cargo hold for the t7 to make it "stand out" as more of a trade-focused ship that would mean you would want to do the same for the t9 vs say the anaconda and that just becomes a mess in the market. :D So yeah something like around 9.8-11.4m cr for the T7 would make it more appealing than grabbing a clipper although that still does not stop anyone from grabbing the T7 and then jumping to a clipper... so eh :S

side note F@%! forums, is it just me or does it occasionally just refuse to type on the line its suppose to and instead moves up a like for example:

Instead of this.

The problem is the Imperial Clipper is too good by comparison for any role. I think pretty much anyone will tell you this. It either needs to be nerfed or the Type 7 needs a serious buff to it's hold capacity to make it stand out more as a trade ship.

Agree, the poor old T7 needs more capacity.

The Clipper could be nerfed to reduce cargo but personally I'm against 'nerfing' as it peeves people that have invested in it.

The T6 and T9 are clumsy barges that can't do combat. But both have significant cargo benefits over their peers. The T7 doesn't. If the T7 had a hold nearer 300 than 200 it would go from bad ship to good ship.

I think all three ships are splendid in their own ways:

1. Type 7 is the ugliest ship in game much resembling THAT awful RL freigter..

2. The Dropship is the most easy target in game, even a visionally impaired person flyng an E rated Python would score a kill

#. The Clipper has the must stunning wreckage of all ships, try to investigate yourselves; you can see interior components still twinkling and blinking , parts of stuff inside, its amazing :)

Cheers Cmdr's

This is a horse that has beaten to death numerous times. The dropship was made for a purpose that doesn't even exist in the game yet: troop transport. As for T7 and Clipper, I've been bemoaning the absolute superiority of multirole ships for trading in comparison to the pure tradeships in a simliar price region all over the forum for quite some time already. Asp rules supreme over T6, Clipper rules supreme over T7, Anaconda rules supreme over T9.

Today concerning those three ships as clearly something had gone wrong. Let's for now assume trading and trading only. We equip these ships with lowest number class A shields possible and fill the rest with cargo racks. We don't care for anything else.

Type-7 will have class 4A (no class 3 compartment) shields and 216T cargo capacity.
Imperial Clipper will have 3A shields and 240T cargo capacity.

This already brings us to the first conclusion. Imperial Clipper is a better transporter than... Type-7 TRANSPORTER. Yes, it's a bit more expensive. But with those 3-4 extra millions come not only 24T of cargo capacity more (which is kinda a lot in this game) but also you get a ship which is almost double the speed, more than double the armor (216 vs 486 - thanks E: D shipyard), more manouverable and thus overall much safer to trade with.

Of course if you want to you can also equip your Clipper for combat at which it excels very nice (talking PvE here). But that's not the case. Let's talk trading strictly. There isn't currently much sense in buying Type-7. Just make those few extra trade runs and get yourself a Clipper. This kind of imbalance breaks the game as it leaves us with options nobody will chose.

Type-7 is a STRICTLY trading ship so it should reward us with great trading capabilities. You can't really fight in Type-7. You can in Clipper and it's still a better trading ship.

This brings us to the second conclusion. Is Federal Dropship the absolute worst ship in the game? Let's talk trading for now.

Federal Dropship will have class 4A shield generator (too heavy for class 3) and 148T cargo capacity. Holy moly. And this ship is supposed to compete with Imperial Clipper, right? It's the Federation's equivalent. Instead it is worse at trading than both Clipper and Type-7. And it's supposed to be a 'dropship'...

If you want to talk fighting most will probably prefer Clipper as well. It has one less hardpoint but it's hard to tell which options is better. Clipper's 2xM 2xL or Dropship's 4xM 1xL. Clipper is twice the speed of a Dropship. All modules are same classes (thrusters, FSD etc). Dropship only wins in armour but it's 540 vs 486 armour is a slight difference if you compare the speed difference between those two.

I ask you, fellow Commanders - is there anyone here flying Federal Dropship for reasons other than perhaps roleplaying? Cause I find that hard to believe.

It amazes me how amazingly Frontier Devs have replicated the Milky Way and how great the world is. It's insane. It is even more amazing how hard do they find it to make this game playable...

Well, my hope is that as FD improve the game with more functionality then we will see specifics to ships that we can't atm, such as carrying passengers. People will min/max, thats just the way it is, I think the differences are fine and unique to each ship type, hopefully we will see variants as well that mix things up in each type bracket. Better handling drop ship at the cost of some armour anyone?

Except I was doing missions with Empire when in the Asp, spent hours gathering up Coffee/Food etc and flew around stations, charity mission there, delivery mission there - All Empire factions.

By the time I had the rank to buy a Clipper I had an Anaconda and mostly War geared Python.
So the Type 7 was my only choice to get to the Python.

I think the freighters should get some love from FD. The type 7 should have like 350t of cargo, the Niner should get at least 600. I owned a type 9, used it to ram small npc ships out of the letter box and flew it like it looks- a giant whale... I now trade in my Annie. Takes 448t of cargo, flies well and has a decent speed AND great jump range... Love it but I really think that the Niner and the Seven should get more cargo space so people would turn back to them...

the T7 is a big ugly flying money sink. everything cost a ton of money and you hardly get any advance. A5 FSD cost 6 mill and will only give you the same as the T6.
i still own the T7, however the price is to high compared with what you got.

The Imperial Clipper is locked to rank.

"The Federal Dropship isn't locked to any rank."

Yes it is. Its locked to Ensign

These comparisons are true in the broadest sense but not if you take cost into account. The T6 costs 6 million fully "A" kitted but the ASP cost 6.1 million stock costing further tens of millions to kit out.
Now its ok for us guys that have the cash and have been playing a while but that to a beginner on hand to mouth trading that is more extra money you can dream of. The T6 is only 850k to buy stock NOT 6 million. It's a cheap buy to aim for from your Hauler and can be upgraded from then a bit at a time as money is earned. Same for the Clipper/ T7 argument it does not stand up. I paid 14 million for mine in a discounted system. Thats a different world to 21 million for the clipper.

I sure hope there isn't an "Imperial Fer-De-Lance". ;)
The Fer-de-Lance is another classic design that has now been in production for two centuries. The ship became famous for its popularity with top business executives and wealthy bounty hunters, being a fast, well armed vessel, with luxurious accommodation and high quality components fitted as standard. Early models were built by Zorgon Peterson, but more recently, limited numbers have been upgraded by Saud Kruger in a rare collaboration, resulting in even more lavish creations, without spoiling the original design and specification requirements.
Not yet apparently but soon there will be.

I also jumped from Asp to Python to take advantage of a hefty discount at Hudson. But I'm really regretting it and rather than playing the game enthusiastically on a daily basis, I now play once or twice a week at best. The outfitting of the Python to get even close to an OK PVE build is a serious grind and it's just sucked up all the enthusiasm I had for the game. May get it back, I still play on occasion.

I would have much preferred to take the next step from an Asp to a Drop ship (Federation aligned) but it's a lemon. And compared to the Clipper, well there is no real comparison. I was all hyped up over the Diamond back, but yet another fighter to add to the long list of fighters.

Yep have to agree, the game has great scenery, great game mechanics, poor ship progression and choice.
Firstly I fitted my Python for trade and I upgraded it slowly as my cash was gettig better and better. With trade Python is IMHO not hard to make enough cash for upgrades.

You are right, to a degree. Yet you can safely trade in that multirole ship with D-grade equipment and shoot down most wouldbe NPC pirates, making some bounty money on the way. If you want to do that in a tradeship, you have to go all A. And yes, I did that with the T9 and took my bounties with the turrets. The gap between an A-grade tradeship and it's D-grade multirole superior isn't that big anymore. And if there is one profession in ED that has all the money in the world, it is the traders. It's usually a matter of hours to get into that better multirole ship instead of the tradeship. You might use the tradeship as a stepping stone to the multirole. In most cases, the fully A tradeship buys you the D multirole in the tradein.

This is a really interesting idea, maybe not the exact %'s you proposed, but a change in insurace base on the ship, the clipper being a popular pirate and combat ship costing more to insure. along with all the ships in this game.

I wonder if the Type 7 and Drop Ship will be atmosphere capable where the Clipper will not.

Okay maybe that will be true, but at first glance, did you really just say the clipper is less aerodynamic? Have you seen the ships? ;)
