Conclusion: Mining is a FAIL

I've tried deep core in both vipers and cobras... the viper mk4 and cobra mk4 make for especially good small core miners. My current fav atm however is the orca with its cargo space, maneuverability among roids, internals, and speed.

The renewed mining is now what should have been when the game came out. It's more fun and now, it's more profitable.

Sometimes I think there are people who talk about a way of playing that they really don't know (I still remember after 4 years, that mining that I did with my Adder collecting the minerals "by hand").

In short for the person who created this post, I think you should read this great guide:

The new mining should be in the base game and yet its not they only get the mining scanner without the tools.

Yes, mining is awful! I only made 7 million in a Cobra IV and it took almost an hour to find 3 crackable rocks! Terrible, awful, rotten, stupid design I tell you! I mean, why can't I just fly through the ring with my cargo scoop open and shoot rocks and have them just fill my hold. No need for limpets. I should be able to fill my hold in 15 minutes... IN A T-9!!! I want it now!

The new mining mechanics are very cool. Even the new DSS is not bad. Mind you, I wish we could just fire probes from our cockpit and let them handle the planet mapping without fiddling with a mini game. Thats gonna get old fast.

But the new scanner to mark asteroids. And the seismic charges and abrasion: Very cool.

Unfortunately, its all wasted dev time if you continue to depend on RNG to spawn rocks. Once we take the time to mark a hotspot, valuable takes should be guaranteed. This over reliance on RNG is an insult to players and does not respect our time or effort. It needs to go.

OP has made me smile. I even posted it that the impression i got was mining is rigged against larger ships. Is there any reason you cant mine in something small and have a friend pick up the rocks in a hauler. Just like EvE! i can see this going down really well, but is it possible this is what the devs intended?

You can core mine in anything with a size 2 hardpoint.

I tend to agree that the sheer amount of kit provided is intended to promote MP gameplay and meaningful kit choice rather than make one pilot his own extraction facility.

Ofc there's always debate about the implementation, but that's beside the intentions.

Its not totally surprising if they dont want condas and type whatevers just sitting in belts extracting. And they are terrified of bots arnt they? I get that impression

Conclusion: Your ASP 'Explorer' is now better than a Type-6 for mining and Python is better than Type-7
This has always been the case.

The Type 6 and 7 have never been any good for mining. The main reason for this is their piddly distributor, but the lack of medium hardpoints is also a factor.

One thing though. The entry miner, the Adder, has now been rendered nearly useless. Unless you fit it without either shields or collectors, it doesn't have room to fit a DSS - so it can't use hotspots (as scanning in another ship doesn't work).

I think it's much more that mining was pretty barebones since day one, and desperately needed variety. Now it's got a whole swathe of available choices, most of which don't involve any passive gaming. Less fear, more "hey the playerbase keeps asking us for more stuff, more depth, more ways to do things, let's give them some". It's also a good boost to MP gaming, which has been advertised since forever, but has also needed lots of lovin'. Lots of ways to do some good mining arrangements with a wing or squadron of pilots.

I think a some of the backlash is from people who want a Swiss Army miner and carry all the things for all the processes at once; they probably feel like they're not keeping up with the Space-Joneses, or missing out on something. It's not like we even lost any previous mining; agree or disagree, the Explo mechanics got a big change and some people lost a way they preferred (we can fight about that in other threads, but the scenario's objective). Oldschool mining however is still exactly the same as before; we just got more stuff added on top.

I don't follow this argument at all, the Python was always the best ship for mining as it provided the best balance between Cargo, Agility and Defense. To my mind no-one who can afford to go mining in a Python should be using anything else anyway. Ships don't have pre-defined roles, they are tools for a job and the Python was the best tool previously and remains so now. No surprise given it's easily the most versatile ship in the game, probably too much so, but that's a separate debate.

The Corvette work quite well too.

While we are talking complete mining fails:

Why do prospectors now expire if you moving when you deploy them?

Yes, seems to be much worse on the T10 than the Kraits. I did a quite long session yesterday with the T10 and the longer I mined, the worse it got. If you thrust up or sideway it seems to stop this. Closing the cargo didn't help. It's pretty annoying.

I'm still used to mining the old way and hit the deploy button whenever I hear that a limpet failed. Not good when you're deep core mining and either forgetting to unlock or trying to unlock with so many targets around. Not a huge issue and it will likely clear up as I mine more.

There are some bugs and things that could be improved, but overall, I'm really liking it.

Do normal single asteroids still replenish every 2 hrs ?
If so, doing mapped mining will probably still be more efficient for credits than the newer system.
I was making about 125mil an hr when I last tried mining. Not sure the new system can match that.

I do "legacy" mining + Surface mining + Deep-core in a T10. It works. And I get stuff that makes money. :) Love the new mining additions, btw.
