Congratulations to the fuel rats

Maybe when we walk around ships, OP can stick a Iron Maiden or Kim Kardashian poster in his cabin :D But
That's exactly what I wouldn't do. And I'd hate to see such stuff on the outside of ships. I am yet annoyed by the flags from the 21st century. Give us ship's, planets, manufacturers, in game faction stickers.

Fuel rats are the ADAC/AAC/AAA of the galaxy. That's OKAY! Even on the ships hull! Maybe else the Explorer escort group (forgot the name, sry) but that's it.

Why should that be it, because they are good guy groups? Does that make them more important than other groups? If 1 group has the right any group should have it

This whole idea of everybody gets a trophy, and thing need to be fair, when fairness is largely over rated...makes it pretty difficult for me not to just say crap to fan the flames of this entitlement mindset for no other reason than my own amusement.

It really feels like some people just want their sticker so they can go..look at me, Me, MEEE, and pretend that other people care and think they are as cool as they think they are.

If this was about something that had some sort of material advantage, then maybe it would be worth talking about, but even then, for maybe two seconds to realize that it is still meaningless.

Taken to the extreme, let's suppose that I have planned on getting a fully kitted Anaconda, and have figured out how I am going to do it with a certain amount of mining, trading, exploring and hunting. In other words, I have a plan on how I am going achieve my goal. Then lets suppose a player group is suddenly gifted a free kitted Anaconda. How does that actually affect me? How does it actually affect my game? Will I have to change my plan? Will it affect my timeline? Is it now more expensive for me? Will it be more difficult to find a station that sells it? As a side note, I got my Founders Permit for free, didn't have to do anything to get it, and make regular use of it.

What other players have in this game, or how they obtained it compared to me makes absolutely no difference, and has no bearing on my game, or how I play my game, and ultimately, it makes no material difference for anyone, no matter how much they wail and gnash their teeth that it does.

Dear Frontier,

I am Bran. You accepted me as a group leader, just me - no-one else. Please find attached the image I wish to be used for me as a group. The contents of the sphere represents everything I have contributed to the game since it's launch therefore I am entitled to have this. :D

That picture isn't just a photoshop job? Because... that doesn't look like FD quality artwork. The texture is awful and has a really hideous alpha channel....

I already said it twice. My computer is a potato and it's a low quality screenshot.

Is this a serious question?

Would you step back from the computer one second and think about it?

A player group who's main goal it is to help other players "unpolitically" and who are very successfull in doing so getting a little trinket of appreciation means every numbnut *) is entitled to trinkets of appreciation?

Pick your's as long as stock lasts:

OP already got his, being on my list of "very special friends" (teh ignore), for not adding anything useful or constructive to any discussion we've met.
And just when you have a glimmer of hope about goodness in mankind and redeeming qualities, a small gesture of appreciation for other player's works as the title might suggest.... this...

*) My very own player-help group .. The "Carebear Picnic Basket Delivery Group" (Motto "Hungry? Hydrogen won't help with that!") was a failure. :(
If anyone sees well fed Carebears in pink Orcas with empty cargo holds around the bubble .. tell them to report back to HQ, I'll demote them all to Gummibears.

Lovely news - congratulations to the fuel rats!
Nice to see some recognition heading their way, and some in game colours for an essential service.
10000 rescues...Wow.

If you want unusual and exceptional recognition, then be unusual and exceptional :)

Yes.

No.

Thats exactly the point.

No group has "the right".

This. It's not their privilege, it's their reward.

No just because they are good guys does not make their contribution more important than say a pirate group. Both groups contribute to the games content in different ways. Both contributions are important

Edit: My question was about the fact that Eloy said only 2 good guy groups should get it

Yeah it actually does. Their contribution is more important.

Example.

You have two groups. One holds functions for millionaires. The other spends millions on charity works and foreign aid.

Millions of dollars are spent, but who is the better contributor? :D

Standard Pirate Group: Contributes to the roleplaying and immersion aspects of Elite Dangerous.
Fuel Rats: Assists players who run out of fuel with their own time, being always ready to answer any call, documents all rescues, and contributes to the community by its philanthropic nature, regardless of whether you're here for immersion, roleplay, combat gameplay, trading or exploration.

I'm clearly a bad person for suggesting that all groups should be treated equally. Can a moderator close this down, before the echo chamber continues?

In Forza, it's handled by having a load of pre-made shapes, that can be arranged in patterns that ultimately form more complex images. The beauty of it is because it's only basic shapes at the core, the data footprint generated is tiny. And if the PC crowd is worried about it, well, you can turn off custom liveries so you don't see what is on other people's cars in a race online. By that logic it must be technically possible in Elite, too.

Copyright? Maybe companies see people making their brand in a game as free advertising? That would explain why I've never been sued by Pirelli, Lucozade, Mtn Dew, Hasbro, or whatever brand (And I've used plenty), that I've used on my cars in Forza.

I just don't get what FD is so afraid of. If they say why it won't happen, I will respect. But their silence on the issue is just rude.

Phantasy Star Online for Dreamcast also had a 'Make a face from basic shapes' and that didn't stop people from putting a pingas on it. It would still probably have to go through a vetting process.

As for the rest of this thread:

Honestly, the only time I interacted with any player group other than the Fuel Rats was when I got potshotted at for not providing "proper tribute" to some guy. (Although it probably didn't help that I confused their group initials with Alcoholics Anonymous and said I didn't drink.) Likely the only reason FDev rewarded the Fuel Rats first was because they were actively helping newbies and creating a positive experience for the community and the game as a whole and not just RPing with lasers.

Disclaimer: I am a inactive/retired Fuel Rat and my words are of my own opinion and not to be construed as a statement from the Fuel Rats organization as a whole.
