I suppose it does make some sense to wait til the last minute. If you're not in a position to get on a PC the moment after you transfer, anything you do afterwards on console isn't going to come across. So you're playing the game knowing any progress you make on anything will disappear.

Although in my case I seem to remember requesting a transfer as soon as I knew I would be able to get a PC to play it on. Better safe than sorry IMO.

So with nine days left in 23Q1, if FDev keeps to their statement that some update would be coming in this quarter, we'll know soon what the plan is.

I don't expect we will know what the plan is, but I think it's going to look an awful lot like the plan to bring Odyssey to consoles, which we were repeatedly reassured was coming until it wasn't anymore.

As for the email, this was in mine (I still have it):
  • The portal will remain open for the foreseeable future and Commanders will be given plenty of advance warning prior to decisions on when the portal looks set to close.

What I don't have is any notice to the same email address that the window was closing indefinitely. A "last call" would have been a decent thing to do. 🤷‍♂️

From the closest thing we got was this:

CONSOLE PROFILE COPYING PROCESS​

Via our website, console players have the option to clone their Commander profiles for use on PC without needing to re-purchase the game. The introduction of Legacy Mode is going to affect what data can be copied. For this reason, the process will be temporarily suspended with the release of Update 14. To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to use the process, it will be reintroduced in Q1 next year.

The reopening of the 'Console Copy Portal', for those wishing to bring their console Commanders across to PC, remains an open goal. There is no news as yet on an expected date for reopening, but we will be in touch as soon as we know more.

Exactly the same update they've had in every one of the newsletters since they started mentioning it. So maybe it's fair for console players to be a bit concerned. And maybe the PC players could consider that the console players still posting here about it still care about the game and want to join you all, rather than the disdain that's popped up in this thread.

Please don't try to make us feel bad because we want to play our game again with the commanders we've already sunk countless hours into.

I transferred across about a week after it was opened, after I heard that the process was quick , easy and surprisingly bug free .

It really annoys me that they can't be bothered to amend the thread title to remove the "Live Now!" defunct distraction.

So much slap-dash stuff going on, it is very discouraging.

EDIT: Maybe I should have posted that weeks ago in light of the new announcement. :ROFLMAO:

I just tried copying my commander from my xbox account, cleared the save file from my steam account AND unlinked the steam account from my frontier account, but when I try to copy my xbox save I am greeted by the "Commander found on this account". Is there something I am doing wrong? Am i supposed to close down my steam version account completely before doing this?

Contact support on the provided link. We can only so much we are just fellow game players for the most part.

I just transferred my profile, it said that you dont need to buy ED on PC but when I try to run the game through the launcher it says please purchase ED to continue! Do i need to buy the game on PC or not..?

How do I download the game then? It doesnt appear in the My Downloadable Product area, the only option I seem to have is to buy the game over again...

Yes, i even linked the account to Steam also in case it would give me a key for that, but everything is empty - downloadable products, steam keys etc etc. I've logged a ticket with support so hopefully will get it sorted, dont really want to spend money on the game again if i dont have to.

Good, it's always best to contact support with account problems once you have tried everything you can, it's surprising how fast they are when dealing with those sorts of issues.

Hmmm, not bad for a Sunday and Holiday weekend!
It is probably a contracted out help desk with scripts to run in cases of common problems like locked accounts, downloads, etc.
Still, not bad.
