Console Profile Copy Process - Live Now!

People take breaks from the game, not everybody logs in each and every day. The windows of time was way smaller than initially communicated and I really don't think it's fair to blame players who missed it.

Not checking your email account linked to your XB account for 2 months is not exactly related to taking a break from the game.
OR, the case of the last commander that complained about the system, apparently not even having access to the email account behind their XB account.

Which, again, it's not FDev's fault

Then let me add context (that you left out ;) )

Didn't the person in this case even write they checked about once a months if anything new was added to the game? Obviously a one week notice will not work out with that interval.

Exactly. Several people in this thread defending keep ignoring this point: Indefinitely was 2 months, and plenty of notice was 1 week.

I'm not ignoring it, i was the one pointing it out.

Still, all things aside, not having access to the XB email account or not checking it for 2 months is hardly FDev's fault

Please correct me if I am wrong, but my dictionary tells me that 'indefinitely' means as much as 'unspecified'.
And 1 week is plenty of notice, considering the process takes 5 minutes... ;)

The process was quick and efficient but 1 week notice wasn't enough time for some to decommission their FC etc if people wanted their most recent progress copied over to PC mode ?
I personally transferred fairly quickly over ( once it was made apparent that the transfer was very well done ) but I never received any emails from Frontier about the transfer until I started the process .

Once consoles had transferred any other progression in the console game counted as nothing in the PC game . So some would have left it til the last moment , Expecting at least time to decommission a FC and get the transfer done ( which was impossible in 1 week ..). I'm just looking from a different angle and don't mean to be seen as argumentative .

Spot on. I was perfectly happy on console, I continued Empire/Fed ranking, mats collecting, saving for FC etc. on PS4 while trying to work out what to do. It was a one-time-only transfer, so I didn't want to use it prematurely while I had no certain way to play the PC version. Luckily Geforce Now has worked out fine for me, otherwise I'd have a frozen PC Commander sitting unused while I try to find justifications to build a rig from scratch for one game....

I dont really blame Fdev tbh. It was 100% my fault for missing the window. They made choices that are best for their company and unless a Dev responds to this thread, none of us are in the loop on their process. I trust them to make the right decisions in the long run. I do love this game, and the devs for making such an amazing game. The console transfer will be open soon again and I can get back to my beloved ships. It has been a pleasure discussing this stuff with you guys. 07

I would further suggest that anyone still on consoles who missed the first transfer, actually take the transfer when it starts up again, even if you don't intend to use it yet or have an adequate PC to run it.

You may want to play on 'Live' at a point in the future as things like Cloud Gaming are improving and changing all the time - i.e. becoming more affordable than buying a gaming PC - your PC CMDR will be there waiting for you!

I took the transfer in Sept 22 with no intention of playing yet as only had old laptop, but with the storyline progressing only in 'Live', I got Nvidea GeforceNow (other cloud gaming platforms are available, I assume) and started up my PC CMDR at end of Oct and been playing 'Live' since at a tiny (compared to a full-on Gaming PC) cost of £8.99/month.
(Free trial GeforceNow is available but you have to Q up to get a rig and play in 1 hour sessions)

I'd suggest any of us console people who did miss the window and would still like to transfer our commanders over just wait patiently. Maybe FDev will open it up again in Q12023 (there's still a few weeks left, unless they mean FDev's 2023 fiscal year which ends May 31st, I think, so Q1 would be June 2023 - August 2023, and FDev has been characteristically quiet on details), maybe they won't, but I can say for certain that there are a subset of PC players in this thread that for whatever reason don't want anyone who is still playing on console to start playing on PC (if they did, I would think their reactions would be one of "Just be patient, we all hope they'll open it up again soon" instead of "[You] missed out on such transfers due to being either too impatient and/or entitled to pay much attention to it actually happening" [direct quote].

In order to maintain a positive atmosphere and to not have too much bad blood with the existing PC player base when (if) the remaining console players get to move to PC, it's probably best to just leave this discussion alone.

OTOH, any players still on console who want to wing up and play in the legacy galaxy, feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll send you the details, I'm usually on once or twice a week except when life gets in the way.

Edited to remove contentious content, maybe?

Like I said, 10 days ago Arf mentioned that the reason it's taking time, is that they are investigating how to copy over as much as possible from legacy console to live pc. I imagine that whatever tool they built, broke the moment they split the galaxy in legacy and live. IMO, best to just wait and see what happens.

You just take that logic and get out, there's no place for you here :sneaky:

So. I don't get it. I'm waiting for a year now to get my profile transferred from PS4 to PC and bought the game on steam a second time. But the portal still says: "The console commander migration service is unavailable at this time."

Now what?
___

And no, I'm not reading 4000 different threads and internet sites and watch three videos on youtube just to find out what to do.

Full console transfer was available late last year, before the full split of the different game versions (live and legacy) but was time limited. A less comprehensive version is supposed to be coming soon. So it was available last year.

Yep, you didnt get it 😂

Full copy of the cmdr profile from console to pc was available between September 12th and end of November (it ended with the launch of U14 when they split the game in Live and Legacy and broke the copy process)
They sent emails to the email addresses registered with the console profiles - i got my notification email the very same day the copy process started.

IMO, 2 months to read an email and decide to take the Copy boat seems plenty enough to me - of course assuming you do have access to that email account, but if you dont it's not exactly FDev's problem
What was not plenty was the 1 week notice that U14 will break the console migration process... 🤷‍♂️

I didn't receive an email from Fdev , but as I'm a grumpy forum user I was able to transfer across . Some were going to leave it to the last minute so the "plenty" of notice or lack of notice failed them so some of it was Fdevs fault ? My thoughts only 😊
