Console Profile Copy Process | Release Plan

I’m confused, again.

Do I now need to decommission my console fleet carrier and then repurchase one on the new PC account, in order to use it on both the PC-transfer and PS4?

If I choose not to do so, and decide instead to grind until the cows come home, can I then purchase a fleet carrier on my PC account and then have two fleet carriers, one for the new PC account and one for my PS4 account?

Do X-Box players need to decommission their fleet carriers in order to acknowledge that Sony is not supporting X-box exclusive releases?

Greetings Commanders!

This is it! We opened the door to September!
As mentioned in this week's Discovery Scanner, this month is absolutely a one for some quite large scale events, one specifically being the console profile copy process, with the release of the console profile copy portal.

We have the latest news on our targeted release plan for console profile copy portal in place for you today, which you can absorb over in the following post: www.elitedangerous.com/news/console-profile-copy-process-release-plan.

For those of you with questions around the other big bit of Galaxy-keeping, '4.0', outside of console copying - We're working on the release plan for this too it and will be back with specifics in dedicated communications as soon as possible.
Still on track though!

Keep looking up (or...down. Who knows when you're up in space, I know)!

Question. What will happen to your ships if they are stored on your console carrier at the time of the transfer? since carriers themselves don't copy over. Where do your ships go?

So it would be linked to the Frontier account rather than a PC copy of the game, so if I got a PC later down the line I could just get a new PC copy of Elite and then link my Frontier account, and everything will be there?
It's an fdev store copy you will get afaik rather than a steam version (not that that matters, steam would work the same way). With the fdev account you just login to fdev website, and it shows the products you own, and you can download them. It's not in any way linked to a pc.

If my current pc blew up today, I could just download to a different pc from the fdev website. The launcher then asks for my fdev account information, linked to a specific email address.

I'm not sure if that answers the question?

Put it another way - when I bought a 2nd pc account, I didn't do anything with it for ages. I had an account on fdev with a copy of Horizons (at the time) and it was there ready for whenever I wanted to download and install it.

Any updates about Fleet Carriers tranfer?
If there is nothing in the linked article in the OP then the FC transfer process will be as originally described, to wit not happening FCs have to be sold off on the console account then purchased on the PC account with the transferred billions of credits.

There was a lot of discussion about how to exploit this to become even richer back when the process was originally announced.

While I'll keep the transfer process in mind, I'm not particularly interested in it, I don't have a PC that can run "base" Elite Dangerous, let alone Odyssey and I don't want to play 99% of my games on PC if I did.

I want to play most games and in particular what to keep playing fully featured Elite on my family of systems of choice, Playstation!! 😯😀🤘 .

I'm still hopeful that after Frontier sort out Odyssey on PCs, they'll "return" to console development and "at the very least", release the game in full, along with Odyssey and any new features on the "next gen" consoles, while adding everything they can to the "last gen" systems, while all platform crossplay would be a great added bonus!

You'll "leave a lot of us behind" if ye don't "return" to console development, but we'll welcome you back with open arms, IF you come back to us! 😯😀🤘

I can’t wait I pre ordered Odyssey and when released my pc wasn’t good enough but I kept it anyways and then started playing on Xbox which would be the third time I had bought it now I have GeForce now and am able to play I’m really excited to move my Xbox profile over since I got so much further thank you frontier I was let down twice but you’ve come thru and I really appreciate all your hard work I never gave up and I love elite dangerous can’t wait to see the others and continue my journey o7

This is my first forum post so I'm not sure if I'm replying correctly, but I just wanted to get clarification on something. I don't currently have the ability to play Elite on pc. When it's said that "the original console profile will remain playable" does this mean that I can complete this console profile transfer, and that my pc profile (whether through Frontier's launcher or Steam) will just... be waiting for as long as I need, to then play on whenever I switch over to pc? And I can play on console until then? When the pc profile is played on/"activated," does the console profile then become unplayable (I figure this question could become clearer as more info comes out)?

Thanks in advance for any clarification or correction.

No is not possible, it was removed from game pass and that deleted the game.
Then you should just be able to go back to the Xbox store page a download it again.
I purchased it through the Xbox store years ago and it being removed from game pass hasn’t my copy.
I was literally playing a few hours ago.

I have set up a new email account just for the console transfer as I will be carrying on playing on PS4 for now until I can get a PC. Will we be getting an email from you (Frontier) about whether we want to copy (yes please)? As I mentioned I don't have a PC yet, will this be a problem? After the copy process is complete does this then have to be activated on PC straight away? If it doesn't then those of us who don't have a PC yet wont need to worry. If all goes well I look forward to seeing you all in the near future.

I volunteer to test.

I already have a copy of horizons with odyssey that has never had a character so a clean slate. I will document any issues and it will be awesome.

If I have an existing pc account, can I transfer my stuff to the pc account? Or does it have to be a new pc account?
As Stormy said.

Alternatively FDev has also stated you can copy it to a new copy of Elite/Horizons but would be required to purchase odyssey (again) for the new account. (Using a different email as well.)

Yes, decommissioning of fleet carriers is needed. This also means you will need to wait the time out period (one week I believe) for the decommissioning to complete before you start the move process.

I can confirm this, I just checked my old Original Xbox One, and my Xbox One S, both show updated and installed, and both launch without issues, as of 7:00pm EST Sept 1.
@Trickylion if you absolutely cannot see the game available to install from your Library, you probably didn't actually buy ED, just thought you had.... otherwise, go thru Microsoft support, they can confirm if you actually purchased the game and restore the purchase if true, if not, you had the gamepass version only, in which case, you either need to buy the game if your just trying to play, or transfer your account to PC as is when they open the process, loosing any unspent arx, if thats what your trying to do, or, find a friend with ED on their console, login to your Xbox account on their console, and you should be able to launch ED from their console as long as their account has a paid copy, but you may need to set their Xbox as your home Xbox first, then change it back to theirs after you do what ever you want...

But definitely confirmed the game is still available on my consoles, just not on Gamepass on my phone or pc

Your right about it all except the end.

Basically, they are creating a copy of your current console save state, and making it PC.
Yes, it will sit there on the email you provide, forever, waiting for you.

Your console account, will never be unplayable, it will remain playable forever.
How ever, you cannot recopy any progress from the console account, after the original copy. So they become two separate accounts basically.
So continuing to play on console while waiting for a PC, that progress will not move to the PC account once its created in the copy process.

Hope that's more clear!

Progress between them isn't synced because the pc one is a seperate account. Thank you, that makes sense!

If you aren't short of credits you can keep your carrier on console and buy another on PC after transfer.
Ships and modules should be copied directly to your carrier if that's where they are prior to transfer. As you aren't friends with the new commander and they aren't your squadmate you'll want to set docking to ' all' and consider fitting a shipyard and outfitting.
